Volvo or scania

Do Scania seats still give you crippling back pain and do you still end up with your left knee jammed up against the engine cover?

No but then the last and only Scania to do that was the P cab over 10 years ago. A few drivers got payouts which drivers being drivers became instantly a massive mythical problem on every Scania ever made.

Up until this morning i would have definitely been in the scania camp.but got given a fm on a 60 plate, our depot at bellshill are possibly moving away from daf and are demoing a man, scania and the volvo.Scania and the Man are from the dealers, the volvo is on loan from our Sittingbourne depot.its one yr old exactly covered 187,000kms.Could nt really fault it,but i suppose one day is nt enough to get real feel for a lorry. Was really impressed with the i-shift and 410bhp engine was good too, granted i m on trolley work and very rarely gross out.It was a day cab as is most of our fleet, drivers seat reclined reasonable amount.Overall i d be happy to take one everyday, but at the end of it i m just the daft driver and it ll probably come down to cost as to what we replcace the dafs with.

Would choose a MAN or daf xf over scania and volvo. But a renault magnum is the best.

funny that i drove an 08 plate p cab, my knee was still jammed up against the engine hump, and the seats were crap.

To be fair I don’t have to drive such lowly truck these days!

I like my 10 plate high liner can’t say as I have any issues with the seat or bunk. It handles really well too

I am having trouble getting the storage sorted though as i have my fridge on the end of the bunk and its a pain getting to the under bunk storage which is a huge space?

not being sarcastic as ive never been in an Rseries, but can you not fold the passenger seat up like you can in a Volvo and put your fridge on the passenger floor?

yes thats what i do, i have a coolbox bungeed to the seat frame with the bottom of the seat folded up.

i dont mind the cab so muchish its just the bunk still has folded bits ( 56 reg ) mirrors are’nt to great and the 3 over gearbox is awful.

When I started driving all I ever heard was how great Scania were, after many years of driving various things I finally got my hands on a Scanis Topline. This was it I thought my truck driving will be entering another dimension. But sadly no, it was just another truck. Don’t get me wrong here it wasn’t a bad truck, but to hear the way people talked about them I thought it was going to be like getting out of a Wright Flyer and into the starship Enterprise.
I drive a Volvo FH at the moment and think it’s great, but it’s still only a truck. It handles okay, but then again like Malc, I have also driven a R340 Turboliner. My brother drives a new Scania and is happy with it and prefers it to a Volvo, But in one way we both agree the job is more important than what type of truck you drive. I’d rather do my job in an old Renault Premium than drive the latest Scania or Volvo round the M25 everday.

Always go for the money!!.

Scania all day long for me but either as a manual or with the Volvo I shift, hate the opticruise!

dont get the problem with space in scania? i have plenty of room? one locker is empty even, dont get the issue with the seats either? do people not know how to adjust them to comfortable position? the seating position is first class. your not sat ontop of the windscreen like most trucks, and the 3/3 gearbox ■■ whats wrong with the 3/3 exactly? its a superb gearbox, the interior is well thought out i feel. never mind the reliability factor and maintenance, better by miles then the rest, a daf cab may be bigger, but thats fine, u can be broken down all day nice and comfy
if u want a cheap and nasty truck look elsewhere, if u want the best buy a scania

Volvo- Scania? There’s only one way to find out!!! Call Harry Hill!

Is this not most peoples issue, that the expectations are so high they expect somthing awsome and when they get what is just very good they feel its a let down?.

Volvo for me. Scania haven’t built a decent truck since the 143!

Lots of people say this and nostalgia is great but in reality if a topline 143 was parked next to a topline R620 and you had your pick, would you go for the modern lorry with the up to date safety features, improved cross cab access, fridge, microwave, coffee machine,TV, and a cab you can stand up in, or would you pick the one with tweed seats?

If its pure driving -140. V. responsive, great sound & faster than any muffled up modern truck.

I’d keep the FH. I drive a scanny highline, and as for room its not bad, but the volvo I shift knocks spots off everything. But i’d trade them both in for a Daf XF SSC :grimacing:

Opinions vary. I’m Scania thru and thru. If Volvo altered the screen rake it would be a massive improvement.
The I shift box is the best I have come across.

Having owned both, the Volvo (series1) was a force to be reckoned with, but fuel was an issue. The Scania has proven a good investment.

I’d have another Scania without hesitation, but Volvo may win on price.

That was only the four series p cab which was due to the cab been designed for lhd.

The one i never get is that scanias are uncomfortable allegedly the 111 112 141 142 on steel with the short wheelbase tractors were on back then could give a harsh ride. But the 3 4 and r series give as good a ride as anything else.
I think the scania r cabs driving position mirrors steering is spot on fh is good and i shift is the auto to beat both way better than a daf.

The last full time driving C+E driving job I had was a 420 topline with the bunk above the drivers seat, that bed IMO was awesome! Why did they move it to the back wall? You could also lift the bottom bunk and move the passenger seat alway back iirc?

My brother is driving an XL Globetrotter at present, while it does look the part inside, the size of the windscreen is awful, poor visibility.
