good replies by knowledgable drivers, had one that tried to join at about 40 during week and as i wouldnt let them they rang office, IDIOTS, even adverts on radio saying dont use lanes with an x on matrix, why should they even be told that, train them right in the first place thats wherE it starts, ive seen a lot of trainers letting the learner do 30 in a 40, if they dont get taught right it stays with them i think, Then obviously you get the selfish driver, im going there cos i can, even in wet then they slam on, again IDIOTS
Why should I have to keep making allowances for other peoples ■■■■ poor driving standards?
Should I therefore adjust my speed for some muppet on a slip road do you suggest?
I don’t think so.
Because that is what professional drivers wou;d do. Trouble is there seem to be fewer around these days.
A professional driver would help other drivers by adjusting their speed. Trouble is nobody want to slow down these days or keep a safe distance in a lot of cases.
Try helping others that are not as bright as yourself. You will feel a lot better.

Nothing wrong with that in certain circumstances. Probably the right thing to do if they are with a trainer.
Speed limits are not targets. Plenty times when you should be no where near the MAX speed.
Some seem in such a hurry they forget the rules.
albion you must have mis understood, 30 is fine in a 40, yes but drive to the conditions, bone dry clear in front no cars pulling from left or right DO 40, I wasnt in a rush but the company im on for want cc on all the time so it adjusts your speed through the camera which a lot of car drivers dont know, suppose they dont need to but the trainer should be alerting them to go with the flow that counts for slips as well its not their fault as their learning but a lot of them dont learn they just become bad drivers

Understand completely what you are saying but it’s not always that simple. The said driver may not have the confidence to drive any faster. It may only be there first or second day on the road. You could say the trainer should not take them on a busy road but they are under pressure to get them through their test. I am afraid other drivers should make allowances especially with learners.
Unfortunately the days of driver training are over. License aquisition makes it far more difficult to get a driver to a decent standard.

I get that. Maybe if it happened a couple of times a day but it gets old real quick when you find yourself bailing people out of trouble every 10 minutes at nearly every on-slip. It just isn’t practical. The same as it isn’t always practical to keep the 4 second rule when cars keep filling your ‘idiot’ gap!
As I said above, on the odd occasion when I do adjust / move over, they learn nothing of their error and will then do it to the next person in the NS lane when joining a dual / m’way and so the vicious circle continues.

My tip:
Copious use of loud airhorns along with the “move along da [zb] out of my way ball-bag”
hand gestures! !!!
same problem today on the A419,some muppet pulled out on me then crawled along at around 40mph while I was doing 56mph,i managed to pull out and avoid an accident while blasting him with the horn,he then overtook and his passenger thought it was funny,it would be so nice to ram these pxxxxs and get away with it,unfortunately we cant

Fair enough I understand your frustration. As I drive trucks very rarely these days and maybe not on such busy roads I maybe cannot see your problem clearly.
I still think there are too many with a bad attitude to poor drivers as you can tell by some of the posts on this thread.

aye, frustration is the word. I only have to endure the crap for about 35’000 mile a year, mostly confined to Cornwall and Devon!
God knows how some of the long distance / max hours guys stick it. We are all only human and take so much!

Blimey Albion it’s obvious that defensive driving has long ago effectively reached the point where priorities and rules of the road have to be reversed on a regular basis together with lane discipline often being irrelevant for the same reason. In which case it would just be better to make the rules overtake on either side and give way to traffic on an entry slip so everyone knows where they stand. On that note using lane 1 on the approach to junctions just adds to the problems in being an accident waiting to happen.
You know what does my head in too??
Today on M77 heading into Glasgow, the bloody female driver in the “usual suspect” Nissan Micra who sits@ 54mph and when you move out for overtake she speeds up.
4mile further down road your up her arse yet again.
3rd time its flash of lights and blast of airhorns just to remind her its time to speed up again!!!
Slip roads in the road works are even more dangerous.
Don’t worry boys, it’s the same here. Yesterday I was tootling along in my car, nearside lane doing the limit 100KM/H. Truck comes hurtling down a fairly steep downhill slip road, gets beside me (nothing behind me in my lane for about half a mile) sticks the indicator on and then starts blowing the horn cos I didn’t swerve into the car beside me or slam on. F*****g muppets are a world wide phenomenon. Or phenomenemenom as Arfur would say.
BTW, I know the speedo’s slow by reading the GPS speed off the camera, so I always stick the needle on 105.

Doris Day in her Austin 7 has no concept of you or the speed you’re limited to. They’re often terrified and confused by post WW2 motoring and refuse to rescind their right to drive as public transport is so crap. Those same buggers who open the bread in Tesco and give it a squeeze? Theyre dicing with you 30 mins later on a slip road.
Treat them like a ship does a sea mine, don’t get close
Radar19:
I love the evil look from the passenger when the car joining doesn’t make it to speed so has to slam on the anchors before ducking behind.
I feel guilty when that happens though. Especially when I’m laughing my socks off.
I overtook a learner car on the motorway yesterday and when I was half way past they decided to boot it - I gave them a dose of main beam
If this is the standard of learning these days I despair…

Massive +1
Any road situation can be better undertaken by firstly not driving on the limiter, then not having a ‘right of way’ chip on your sholder and then realising how precious and easily lost ones LGV entitlement is and thus driving accordingly by setting and example and causing as little inconvenience to other road users as possible.
Sliproads can be solved by a little observation, forward planning and slight speed adjustments where neccesary. I also find dangerously lurching her onto the slip road puts off all but the most determined BMW driver.
Its easy to drive like a ■■■■ but thats not why they pay us the big bucks
M25 a couple of Friday’s ago, about 5 pm, going past Heathrow. Need I say more…
I was in lane 1, passing a slip road joining the main carriageway. I let two or three cars in and by that point we were at the end of the slip road and the start of the chevrons, so I decided that was enough. One prick decided he’d reserved the space in front of me and was adamant he was going to get into it. There was no gap left, but I could see him hovering around my nearside on the chevrons. I carried on as everyone moved away, we were only moving around 3-4 mph, and presumed he’d have dropped back, as there was literally no more space.
I kid you not, the next thing I knew of was the squeaky crunch of plastic on plastic. This pleb actually decided to continue drifting into me as opposed to stopping and waiting for a gap! If that doesn’t illustrate the kinds of people we share the road with, I don’t know what does!
ROG:
This is not likely to change until compulsory periodic driving assessments with advice on improvements if necessary are introducedDrivers pass a basic test and … that’s it
Dunno about that, but there definitely needs to be an assessment/retest for foreign drivers who come from uncivilised countries. When I look at middle lane hoggers etc it’s unreal how many of them are black or Asian.

Wait for it, you’ll have em telling you how “unprofessional” you were for not making allowances for all the muppet car drivers!
You really should have shown more professionalism by letting them all in.
