Vehicles entering main road / motorway from slip roads

I constantly have problems with vehicles entering main roads/motorways from slip roads. The vehicles trying to enter have no idea how to enter properly ie gain enough speed to enter without having to play chicken & expect me to either slow down move over when there are vehicles in the next lane. Cars have such good acceleration these days that it is so easy to speed up to 60mph plus to enter in front of a HGV.

You forget that said car is driven by a sponge.

My tip:
Copious use of loud airhorns along with the “move along da ■■■■ out of my way ball-bag”
hand gestures! !!!

“I constantly have problems…”

Worrying.

Personally I’ll move over to the next lane if it’s necessary and if I can, alternatively If necessary I’ll slow a bit to make space for them to join the carriageway, but if they don’t take advantage of said space it’s their problem not mine, if there’s already enough space for them to join the carriageway and they don’t take advantage of it again it’s their problem not mine.

If folk wernt tailgating each other and instead leaving the recommended 2 second gap, at 56mph that is 45m (or 5 white lines) then there would never be any conflict joining or leaving busy roads.

What planet’s that then ? I can have half a mile in front of me and some gormless t88t will do what the op’s talking about. People do tailgate, but I don’t and it still happens.

Personally I think signs should be up on the slip roads " Adjust your speed when joining carriageway. Many drivers seem to think motorway traffic has to give way to slip road vehicles.

It’s funny you should start this thread, because I’ve been feeling the same lately. I feel there is a new breed of bad joiners amassing… the ones who are on the slip road traveling at the same speed as you, and ahead of you by a good safe distance, and then on come their brake lights, and they show hesitation.

Assuming I can’t move into lane 2, I slow a little when I see their brake lights, and hope it gives them the confidence to join, but once or twice I’ve made the mistake of slowing too much anticipating them just coming out into my lane. But I’ve learnt they don’t, they just stop, even though it’s wholly unnecessary for them to do so - and so I fly past them inches from their vehicle as they’re squeezed into the last part of their sliproad.

I think these under confident ones are often more dangerous than the over confident ones who force their way in front of you because at least you know their intentions better.

I’ve had people driving on the slip road/lane at the side of me and maintaining the same speed as me even when the carriageway has been clear, 99 times out of 100 It’s nothing to do with tailgating, it’s just to do with people not paying attention to what they’re doing.

Sorry, duplicate post.

I’d say most goggle eyed car operators will not be conscious of having to “join” anything right up until they get to the lines, and even beyond.

Get my goat as well, far too many people think the motorway gives way to the slip, will gladly give you abuse when you don’t give way like its not their job to even be at all concerned about their speed and position.

I’ve stopped moving even if I can, cruise stays on, not even a hesitation to show them the way in. Because invariable they’re also hesitating and you end up both doing 45 before they happily speed off in to the distance leaving you burning the profits.

I’ve contemplated “I’m doing 56mph, be my guest” stickers for my passenger door but driver education is also a lost cause.

.

Sure I’ve commented on that before but no harm doing another one.

Yes there would…!

I’d like to think, that even if I’d never driven a lorry or had any comprehension that speed limiters existed on them, that I would notice a pattern developing that every lorry travels circa 52-56mph. Oh and the fact that there’s 22million stickers on the back of trailers telling them so.
I don’t think anyone should slow or alter their speed on the main carriageway and it’s not because I take the typical trucker attitude “I do this for a living so I know best” or that they should be bullied or that it’s them that’ll get hurt rather than me, it simply shouldn’t be encouraged.
Keep encouraging them to maintain they’re ■■■■ driving, and that’s exactly what they’ll keep doing.

This is not likely to change until compulsory periodic driving assessments with advice on improvements if necessary are introduced

Drivers pass a basic test and … that’s it :open_mouth:

How about the so called professionals who try to hit the limiter before they get to the end of slip.
Only to move over for them so they can leave you hanging in the middle lane.
I had one last week who tried to overtake me on the slip road?
WTF
I think they should paint a giveaway sign at the end of slip roads and put up a sign£

What do u mean-----hanging? Do u mean u used a lane you were entitled to use until the conditions allowed you to move over to the left when able :grimacing: :grimacing:
