Don’t get me started on driving with front fogs on with side lights.
Its compulsory to drive with the rear fogs on between October and March though.
robroy:
Nah knee socks and shorts are up there with socks and sandals and double denim.
I’ve got my reputation to think of here.
Btw…three quarter length trousers?…have you just arrived from 1998?
That’s more of a fashion for you lot North of the border, a bit like their shell suits. [emoji38]
1998?
I think he’s talking about the Bay City Rollers.
DickyNick:
I’m not fishing it’s a genuine truck related question wondering why drivers seem to think because they are driving a large vehicle they are above the law which clearly states fog lights only to be used if visibility is 100m or less. Is it if we’ve got more lights on we can be bigger bullies?
I think of a more pressing concern is drivers socks. How often do you change yours?
DickyNick:
And robroy wrong with his absurd assumptions as usual. My assumption of him is that he’s a lay-by rat and uses McDonald’s toilets for a shave and a [zb] on his nights out.
Yep, fair cop/banged to rights guvnor, lay bys every night with mirrors pulled in…it’s the way forward man.
Wow! What a Brill idea using Maccy Ds for a shave, when I check in for my morning coffee…although I did not shave from lockdown,.I went for the Grizzly Adam’s look, wife couldn’t keep her hands off me,.said I looked all 'Mountain man rugged ',
I intended to go for the full ZZ Top vibe, but got sick of the itchy face, so knocked it on the head, got the Remington out, and went back to my trademark ‘Juan Sebastian Veron’ goatee look.
So yeh,.I’ll look into that idea mate, bonus being I can wash my socks in their sinks also.
Cheers for the idea.
If you find yourself with an unexpected puncture in your sock, simply turn it inside out so the hole is on the inside. That should get you home in time for your steak dinner.

Not sure about modern trucks but I often use the front fogs on the car to supplement the abysmal dipped beam lights. They provide a valuable spread of light to pick out suicidal pedestrians and cyclists riding on sparsely lit or unlit local roads without lights and numerous massive pot holes and craters in the road. They’re also low enough not to bother oncoming traffic like main beam lights. Also notice many others doing the same.I understand, one of the many that makes their own rules.
Like cyclists using the roads at night without lights because it’s ‘illegal’ to ride on the pavement or councils failing to repair dangerous car destroying pot holes you mean.

from previous sock experiences then i would advise when you do that, to only head home in limp mode.
theres nothing worse than getting a blowout on the sidewall of your super hamptons when your flat lit.
thats what a proper skilled professional driver would do…

Many car drivers are doing the same thing are they all doing it to be ‘bullies’.
Modern roads are full of modern hazards that sometimes need to met by thinking outside the box no one is going to be nicked for increasing visibility if/when required.
Sometimes approaching breakdowns on the hard shoulder I’d usually be in lane 2 with every light it’s got main beam and fogs among other similar hazards.

Having just glanced through the posts I can see you are one of a very few who have given a proper response.Good on ya pal.
What about a kids section where the ones with a mentality of under 10 can congregate and throw their toys out of their prams all together.

Still avoiding the sock question I see. What are you afraid of?! Sockgate

Impressive standard of debate on here these days.

Nah Dicky’s ok with debate, he’s proved it on here many times, judged by his posts, he’s an expert mass debater.

Er - that’s how they work best (at night, in dense fog or falling snow of course, not in normal visibility conditions).

thats a great idea and it absolutely gets my vote.
it could consist of hundreds of members ,all with different names, and all of them you.
that way as soon as you post all your incessant condescending smarmy drivvle, you could just cross post to yourself repeatedly and feel super important as king of your very own fantasy world.
it would be full of ex trainers, instructors, professors, those with a phd in whatever, only driving for pocket money to pass the time, and road warriors of every description.
you could call it…the juniorukjaketherowleysnake101trampfantasyfivegangandfriendsnogrownupsallowedgang.
just keep it live till 9pm at night, and 11pm at weekends when your allowed up that bit later.

Er - you use dipped headlamps and fog lights in reduced visibility and not sidelights with fogs as Suedehead quite correctly points out. I think he was merely pointing out the error of drivers misusing fog lights?

Rev 25, Road Vehicle Lighting Regs 1989 clearly states that correctly positioned front fogs may be used instead of headlamps. Which is not surprising really as that is how they are designed to be used and why they are placed near the ground.

Hmmm ■■?
③ In fog
It makes sense that main headlights can blind other road users—but did you know that they can sometimes dazzle you, too? Visibility is often at its worst when you drive in fog, so you might be tempted to stick on your full beams to try and see just that little bit further. However, that’s just about the worst thing you could do.
Because of the way your full beams are angled, what really happens in this situation is that the light bounces off the fog and back into your eyes. Not ideal when you’re already struggling to see! Instead, combine your dipped headlights and fog lights for the greatest effect—and drive slowly to compensate for your restricted visibility.
Remember to turn your fog lights off as soon as you’re in the clear though, as these, too, can dazzle other drivers.
Oh thank good for that! A lesson on how to use headlamps! I’ve always wondered how to use them
