I don’t know if I want to know the answer to how you know about this.

At the bottom of the BBC news page for this story there is a heading about a woman and child being killed by a train. When will this carnage stop, based on the cyclist story, isn’t it time train companies allowed woman and children to redesign trains?

pierrot 14:
Forget the stupid designs. As most people have already said, seems a bit too much glass, probably ok for vehicles that just do town work though.
Didn’t the old Ford Cargo’s have long windows in the passenger door , I thought these were a good idea, why were they discontinued, (the window idea not the cargo.)

Saw this on a Firmin truck parked up in a transport cafe on the A1 , north of Peterborough

, start of a way to educate the cyclists … maybe

Kates Cabin by any chance?

Obviously an agile human being who can (supposedely) think for themselves and manouver with great ease should have the right of way in front of a train, a truck, a jumbo jet on the runway and even be able to sail a rubber dingy in to the English Channel and expect all shipping to give way to them simply because they’re there, they’re seen and its on everybody elses back to adjust their behavior to accomodate their stupid actions.

Unfortunetely is just another aspect of the blame culture, in which people refuse to take ownership and responsibility of their own actions. Stop idiots riding bikes down the inside of trucks at traffic lights and I’m sure these same idiots would stop getting injured and killed in a high percentage of cases. Nevermind re-designing a whole vehicle concept, nevermind putting umpteen different mirrors on the truck, all thats doing is pandering to the symptoms, stop the cause and the problem stops. Its ridiculous that its even allowed by law to ride up the inside of a vehicle like they do and this is very much where the problem lies. I wonder how they would react if something sensible was done, such as to make it an offence to carry out their favourite dangerous manouver in order to protect them from the inevitable injury or death…there’d be an outcry of victimisation, because they think they’re entitled to do whatever they want and its always somebody elses fault when it goes wrong.

Great post.

Carryfast man, that’s bull of the highest order, despite the fact I wrote " my bike doesn’t have emissions" MY BIKE! Not cyclists. Non existent global warming! So the rain of last year, worst on record added to the coldest march ever, ice caps melting etc, it’s all a myth put about by looney cyclists to get everyone on a bike, really? Don’t know what medication you’re on but it works a treat.
Why do some of you think testing, insurance, training, tax and all the other stuff, including ■■■■■■, I’ve seen that & it’s very rude, would make a blind bit of difference? All legal motorists have it and you’ve all seen how good some of those are on the road. It’s simple, if a cyclist has the room to go up the inside of a truck indicating left, with a big warning to cyclists about said move and is not seen by the driver, and gets crushed then that’s natural selection.
robinhood I partly agree with you, I will ignore the generalisations, we don’t all do it. It would be a great idea to have a law against it, but, how many laws do people break on the road every day? Speeding here, blowing lights there, we see it all day every day. It’s like no motorist does any wrong on here as soon as you mention a bike, despite all the other threads telling of incidents every day. It’s like the police in Cambridge charging cyclists for riding on the pavement, correctly it’s illegal, but doing nothing about cars parking on them, typical double standards.

Cycling deaths in London: Campaigners in lorry redesign call - BBC News

The design is ridiculous. By people who don’t understand what they are talking about.

Bin lorry cabs haven’t taken off in the industry for a reason. The lower height makes them less safe on the whole. Doesn’t give the driver the visibility that he needs to see whats coming up ahead, crucial especially on motorways. You can’t just stop 40 tons, you need to be able to see above over traffic and forward plan. You also need the height when carrying out tricky reversing manouveres to see above gate posts etc. The amount of glass also makes the cabs inpractical for use as a sleeper. I could go on…

Haulage firms aren’t going to invest in lorries that satisfy cyclists in towns but are no good anywhere else. If they decide that we must use these ‘cycle-friendly’ lorries then local authorities should be bloody well paying for them, at the end of the day we could all do without mingling with cyclists and pedestrians in busy town centres but its the shops & businesses that need us there to deliver the goods. Any half decent feasible suggestion to end our need to venture into the places would be most welcomed.

If that knocked a cyclist down i would place a bet that someone would say that there isn’t enough mirrors on that

[attachment=0]Old Shell Lorries 018.JPG[/attachment

We used to have a nearside window in the door of our day cabbed Renaults.
This was 1997 and we got rid of them in 2000.
Shell thought it was a good idea to have a good view of anything along the nearside of the vehicle.

Still (I think) a factory option on them.

And could be on DAF LF (shares cab with Renault) and (I think) Iveco Eurocargo (uses same door I believe).

I’m old enough to remember sitting in the cab of a little (Morris?) lorry which had a so-called ‘thru’pny-bit’ cab, with windows all around at floor level.

Actually yes amongst a few others who’s agenda, just like any other type of religeous extremist,is all about forcing their bs global warming religion onto the non believers. You’ve obviously missed these posts.

Global warming bs.Looneys don’t come much more loopy than global warming believing cyclists, amongst others, who believe that Global Warming is making the Northern Hemisphere colder when Carl Sagan told everyone that by now we’d be living in a heatwave all year round eventually leading to the same environment as that on Venus.Melting ice caps you’re having a laugh. Here’s the temperature for North West Canada and Siberia just how cold do you want it to be there at the end of March for you to believe that ‘global warming’ doesn’t exist. :unamused: :unamused:
