Traffic lights on roundabouts at night

I find that flashing the main beam wakes up the sensor and the lights change for me.Most traffic lights have a box above the red light that contains a photo electric cell, the flashing “tricks” the system into changing the lights.

Next time keep your main beam in your trousers  , most traffic lights are triggered by magnectic loop thingys under the road

Temporay ones aren’t.

Now you will picture it more like a ’ minging vase ’ Goldilox.

Quite. Thank you very much for that.

Can we bring this thread back out of the gutter please…

Make love to it each and every night until you can stand it up like an ornament.

Bone china? Hand made?

Yes, I think hand made is probably the best way to put it…

They really grind my gears! 2 o’clock in the morning, nobody else is about and they still change to red!

You said it mate. Boils my ■■■■ to steam, ggrrrrrrrrrrr

wee gordy:
Red lights to dirty sox lol

And what’s wrong with a good red light area …?
Come on we all Have been to one or two , or probably 22 in Dippers case !

Back on the mundane topic of traffic lights, the ones at Pont Abraham are part time, think they only work during rush hour and the roundabout seems to function quite happily the rest of the time without them,

Toyota island… A38 / A50. Used to deliver steel to the car plant there. Trying that to pull out at that junction at rush hour was hairy :open_mouth: Timed traffic lights would have been a blessing as cars came round at nigh on m’way speed :exclamation:

As a night driver this is really irritating. The amount of time I sit at lights waiting for them to turn green with nothing coming is ridiculous.

I was in Stevenage recently and the lights on some of the islands between Stevenage and the A1 have signs up saying temporary lights and at night they turn them off.

This makes total sense and in the age of efficiency and climate change this is a no brainer.

in this day and age with cameras everywhere you would like to go through a red at 2 or 3 in the morning, you check everywhere for old bill being sneakily parked and think right go through,as you are about to panic kicks in and you think, sxxt what if there are hidden cameras watching,so you sit and wait, annoying as it is,had that feeling many a time

He wasn’t very busy at my gaff.

Miserable sod only gave me some bloody socks.

look on the bright side, for some of the trampers on here, that would be something warm and soft to chug into on those unexpected nights out? of leave it in the fridge if you want to slip into something cool and delicious during our warmer weeks? :open_mouth:

A little patience helps. I mean how long does it add to your journey?
Not worth getting wound up about.
Of course you could do what some drivers do and go through them at red.

Seen plenty of truckers just going through reds at night. Last week, J19 of M6 northbound, quite a busy exit slip with people leaving the M6 to get onto the A556. Going up the slip and the lights were on red, wagon in front of me just slowly plodded on through the first set of red lights. As many will know, there’s then a further set of lights a bit further round the roundabout, he just went through those on red as well before flying off down the A556 on the limiter (speed limit is currently supposed to be 40 due to roadworks).

Not quite light related, but it cheeses me off when people won’t let you into the left hand lane on the approach to a roundabout to take the first exit :imp:

Easy solution: go down the outside, all the way around the roundabout, then give a cheery wave as you peel off onto first exit in front of said selfish gits! :grimacing:

Traffic lights that stop dozens of vehicles to benefit just one in a side road annoy me. A particularly irritating one near me is the Science Park at Begbroke on the A44 near Yarnton. Timing is useless, the solitary car in the service road doesn’t even stop, the lights sense it coming and then loads of traffic must give way. Total crap.

Lights on roundabouts at all times:

I love the ones you come to when you happen to be 44 tonne and need the 4th exit.
You come to the first set stop on red, green move 20ft to the next set which change to red, geen move another 20ft stop, green move yet another 20ft and stop , green and you finally make you’re exit !! - great for your truck and the environment. :unamused:

And what a pain in the rear it is when you happen to be lost and need to switch lanes.

Busy junction and rush hour yes but it almost seems compulsory to have traffic lights 24/7 on a roundabout whether it needs them or not !

Turn them off outside of rush hour. It’s common ■■■■■■■ sence !!!

Santa don’t worry cops got a year to catch up to you lol

Ha… They haven’t a clue where to find me
