You are right Nathan, Im not sure what has happened but a whole load of my pics have just disappeared including some of the Smiths pics that I have posted earlier.
Im going to stick up that FL pic on the Mount Sorrell thread and will have to see if any more disappear.
Im nowhere near my allowance just a random selection seem to have gone??
Cheers

That was Michael Haynes’ lorry from new. He was the Banbury-based driver who’d clean his truck at weekends. Someone posted on here a while back that he’d climb out of his cab, walk along the load and unhitch the tailgate from on top of the load so he didn’t get his boots dirty! Had a CAT 300 in that, I drove it once not long before it was sold and wasn’t in the condition that Michael had kept it in. Was still a lovely truck to drive when it went end of 2004/05 along with 6 wheeler G160 (the 4000th 4000 series) about the time my lorry arrived. G162 came with G160 and G161 and 163. Dad had G163 for a while until it was stolen from Gill Mill not long after it’d been upgraded to 32 ton GW. Wonder if it was nicked by the lot who were meant to have links with a dealership somewhere??

There were two Foden 4000 series stolen about that time frrom the Gore quarry Nathan, probably told you before.
I think Police raided somewhere in the Midlands and a gearbox was traced to the one Dad had nicked. Dad always said it was an inside job with a Foden connection or a ■■■■ good coincidence…

It certainly got these quarries going, they have security camera’s etc everywhere now.
I’ve been trawling through Orange Image Search seeing if I can find RC2s missing pics and I’ve found a few Smiths photos I’ve never seen before. They look professional but have no copyright attached so I’ll post one here hoping it’s a fellow TNUK member.
This was the lorry shown in the early part of the thread, which was originally an F reg and was re-registered to G561 WLY. When new it had a 14Litre Cat 350 which was replaced by a 14 Litre ■■■■■■■ 500 which ■■■■■■■ provided to win back custom from Caterpillar. The Cat engine ended up in a Cat loading shovel at Broadway quarry.
This lorry was based at Banbury 1989-2000 and then spent it’s last years 2000-2002 at Gill Mill running to Smiths Concrete, Blackthorn. My Uncle Allan taught Dad to gain a class 1 on this before it was replaced with the firms first Next Gen Alpha.
i notice you don’t post much in a morning lately nathan . are you catching up on your sleep when callum’s had his brekkie ? probably be a rest to get back to work eh . been there , done that , thank god my memories going vague now , cheers , dave
The early morning stuff I post is when I’m eating brekkie before work. Since paternity leave I have a look once Callum’s gone back to sleep and the wife’s in the bath, go out during the day/have friends/relatives over to spoil Callum etc and have another look in when wife and boy are sleeping/nowt on tv (Midsummer Murders and Alan Titchmarsh don’t entertain me )
Here’s another one I’ve found;
The Smith family have been Cricket fans for many years; In this “promo” pic, Andrew Smith is on the far left (son of the late Godfrey) and his uncle, John second from right. I’ve noticed the lorry is mine, obviously before it went on the road as it doesn’t have “Sarah Elizabeth” above the Kite Badge…
Yes, yes I was expecting that to appear God knows what state it’s in at the moment, at best it’s parked up at Bletch’ as Dad said he hadn’t seen it on the road but the fitters took it away from Gill Mill last week-hope they tipped the load off I 'd left on…
Found this one on the net especially for Fryske
I last saw this at Gaydon a few years back displayed by CW Sproston. They were mentioned in CVC recently as being lime hauliers from Yorkshire I think and run a Leyland Cruiser artic. A couple of Smiths long-time drivers could rate this one in just one word; “CRAP”
At a guess, I’d say this was taken around '95 as the lorries either side are still painted in the old (better) livery. I think no lorries older than F reg were repainted. There’s also a good chance that the Foden 6w on the right of the picture could be the one Windrush drove after Smiths sold it as D704 had the mushroom air intake where it’s sister had a square topped one-how I remember that God knows
This one met it’s end near Chipping Campden after descending the steep hill from Broadway down to the junction of Campden/Mickelton (B4062, old Stratford Road). It jumped a ditch and ended up scrumping apples in someones’ orchard. Before that, it was a good lorry (Cat 300)
JAKEY:
What truck did "big andy crockett " drive when he was on for Smiths ? , his trucks were mint but nowadays his own trucks are all ways dirty .
G163 BLM; the 8wheeler that Dad had after he left that got nicked in '92. Then when Andy came back I’m sure he had a D reg 6w either D704 or D352 until he had a new P reg 3000 series-he even bought bling for that one! Sunvisor, air horn, little green rooflights I like Andy, he was one of those who knew about passengers hiding behind dashboards
