sbhep:
well sorry for not keeping up with this post
the agency gave me afew days off and I went home to Romania to see my family
( that was a joke unlike this post )
wow…yes wow lots of response
and a definitive anser from a member
And I have a definitive answer to the original question. It’s in writing from the PNLD
(Police national legal dept).
If there is no width or weight limit it is perfectly acceptable to use lane 3 in this instance !
can all the other responders who questioned my sanity send their sincere apologies
anyway I still potter down southbound 3 rd lane when its empty and 1 and 2 are jammed and northbound up to about jc 29a north of this they are moving the lanes around now and there is a width restriction in place
and we all know that would now be illegal to go in third lane there
cheers
Simon
PNLD is Police National Legal Database, not Dept.
Can you post the advice / wording they have sent you as an Motorway cop I’m curious as to what part of Motorway Regs they are looking at.
You must despair coming on here and reading some of the posts from drivers.

I cannot do a screen capture as it won’t allow it though. I will try to be devious.
I smell a rat. If it’s in writing on a website just send us the link. And I’m not sure why a website like that would go to the trouble of disabling the print screen feature on the OS.

No it was a reply to me directly …I had forgotten about it, Will try and find it now.
personally, then legal or otherwise, then id prefer to bludgeon my way through lane 1 or 2.the possible offence would definitely be open to debate in court depending on your “better call saul” expertise of your brief(and your wallet). even if pedantic plod dosent know any better, then he will still do you and let the court decide.
the only times I use the lanes is when theres 4 of us abreast trying to spy what ■■■■ is on someone elses dvd in the cab on lane 1 or 2.at that point any lane is fair game when heading for the boat somewhere in the middle of the night.
This is a traffic question .
On a three lane motorway that has lane one closed off by cones for temporary works for a long distance and a sign saying “any vehicle” over what was lane three …which is now the outside lane of a two lane carriageway in effect can an articulated vehicle of 44 tonnes use this lane or is it still excluded as per normal ?
Thanks in advance
Jerry,
The restriction in relation to the use of the right-hand lane of a motorway apply to a length of carriageway which has 3 or more lanes open for use by traffic proceeding in the same direction. However, at road works you must be guided by the signage – the sign below indicates that even though there are only two lanes available, HGVs still cannot use the right-hand lane.

We hope this information is of use to you.

Thanks for the reply, BUT the stretch of motorway in question has a sign just like that except it says any vehicle in both lanes…So can a 44 T artic use the right hand of the two ?

Jerry,
You can use the outer lane when lanes are closed making it into a 2 lane motorway, assuming there are no restriction signs as to width/weight etc.
All they’ve replied to you is what most of us already know.
For some reason either they or you have gotten confused with the original scenario which was where there were 3 lanes. All of the replies to your email refer to a 2 lane stretch of road.
Reading your original question to them talks of having one lane of three coned off. The original scenario has no lanes coned off, only narrowed lanes with all 3 live running lanes showing any vehicle as opposed to the normal 6’6" width restriction in lane 3.
For [zb] sake,no you [zb] can’t,stop bending other people’s words to make it seem like they are agreeing with you…those emails confirm what we all already know, nothing more and certainly don’t say what your trying to say they say.
bloody nora is this still going on lol. Anyways there is only 1 sign that says any vehicle in any lane and its the one in the pic shown. Straight after 31 there is a sign saying a width for the 3 lane.
