OVLOV JAY:
What I’m driving at, is it’s what you spend your money on, I don’t drink, smoke or go fishing, so I only spend what would be available for other interests. Plus I don’t spend massive amounts every week. It will work out to less than a tenner a week
Why use smoking and drinking the lowest common denominator.
A 10er a week would help towards family hol, Christmas, kids, pension etc etc etc. You don’t pay for tyres and fuel, so why pay for other stuff that is equall y your boss’s responsibility regardless of whatever your wage is. Each to his own misguided way of doing things, but I will never get it.
We have enough hols, my kids wear nice gear, have the right amount of gadgets, my pension is healthy, I have a 2 cars and a van without a penny of finance on them, and have a decent amount in my current account and even more in savings. Like I say, it’s money that would be available elsewhere. I’d never let my kids starve so I can have wheel trims, because as I stated earlier, I won’t work for ■■■■ money. I know drivers who do a tenner a DAY on costa/wild bean etc
Well mate if you think that after all that the next logical step is to subsidise your boss that is up to you.
At the end of the day I couldn’t give a rat’s ■■■ what you spend it on, my opinion on it only comes in the context of a forum/debate as you put it up for discussion, all I can say is you must love your boss…but I bet as sure as hell your boss will love you more
As I said before read the words at the bottom of your page. We will just have to agree to differ. Off for a Costa.
My boss would rather I didn’t spend any money on it, he prefers the uniform, never been washed look. Drivers like me are a pain in the arse to him, because we take up room in the yard washing down, and some people that can’t drive moan about reversing around us. There’s plenty of things I don’t understand, like why someone would spend all week in a ■■■■ hole, assuming you won’t spend out for dash cleaner or a hoover because it’s not your lorry. I guess your boss must provide glass cleaner, or do you drive down the road with the visibility of a mole?

Hang on mate I said I wasn.t dumb enough to buy crap for another man’s motor at what point did I say I looked and behaved like a tramp.
f.y.i. my cab is spotless, I also have tv microwave fridge dvd etc …they benefit ME
Also there is a vast difference between a tin of Mr Sheen and a cloth to 520quid + a year to buy a set of ■■■■■■ spotlamps.
I never said you were a tramp, but you said you wouldn’t spend any money on someone else’s vehicle. And there’s not much difference between interior polish and exterior polish. And all the bits on my truck come to less than your microwave. So each to their own

Point is mate both fridge and m.wave were bought for me by a previous good employer that appreciated me, tv/dvd was a present from kids so the £1.50 Mr Sheen and 20p cloth is still a bit behind your expenditure towards your govnr eh?
Ok we get it, you don’t like shiney trucks or the people that drive them. You’ve got us all pegged as fools, and that’s your right to interpret things that way. There’s an underlying theme to most of your posts. All you’ve done is prove the whole point of my first post really. Nice to see you’re happy to take the benefits from your good governor though, good job his attitude wasn’t ■■■■ him, why should I “subsidise” him
I remember Mickey Rooney being interviewed on TV once. The presenter asked him about all the payments to his ex wives and he said “alimony was like putting fuel in someone else’s car”.
That’s what I think when people buy things to adorn someone else’s truck. Can of Mister Sheen to keep the cab clean is one thing, but eh remember whose truck it actually is…
Trouble is how far do you take that analogy? Would you decorate a council house? Would you put double glazing on a house if you haven’t paid the mortgage? Would you ask a finance company for new tires for your car, because none of these examples are yours, legally

Back when I had a new Foden Alpha, I was due a day off so the day before workshop rang and asked me if I could leave my lorry at head office. Fine it wasn’t far off a service so it would be good planning. No, they were letting the maddest driver who’s cab was an absolute ■■■ hole drive it because he’d broken his. I complained and was reminded that the lorry had my employers’ name on the doors, not mine. Never cared a jot who drove “my” wagon after that.

Well it looks like you get it wrong then mate, I quite like shiny trucks and I quite like a few lads I know that drive them, all of which are kitted out by their respective companys.
As for thinking you’re a fool…your words, not mine.
If there is a theme to my posts…well at least I’m consistent.
How the hell do you get that I have proved your post ffs?
As for my other boss subsidising me, …he did every month ( it’s called salary)
If he thought ■■■■ him, I wouldn’t have worked for him.
OVLOV JAY:
You proved it because my first post said, these threads turn into a ■■■■■ fest towards people who look after their equipment
Nah not ■■■■■■■■ mate, it’s just as I said I will never see the logic in it thats all.
It can also have adverse effects on other drivers, if a group of lads want a pay raise, the boss sees one or two spending a ■■■■■■ mint on his trucks he says ‘sod that, I’m paying them too much as it is’ bye bye pay raise.
I have also been in the company of a local haulier that I know very well who regularly takes the ■■■■ out of the guys that buy all that crap after he stopped buying it himself.
It’s the only industry I know where the employees add to co. assets willingly If my Mrs came home and said she was buying double glazing for her works office, or upgrading it to aircon at her own expense I would think she had finally flipped.
Anyway mate, off to bed, nice arguing with you

Whilst I might decorate a council house, I certainly wouldn’t be adding value by fitting new bathrooms or doors etc, as its not my property. A mortgaged house or financed car I would add value to as it would eventually become fully owned by me, something someobody else’s truck never will be.
It all ties into the culture where employed drivers mistakenly refer to a vehicle as ‘their truck’ which is a total misnomer. It is not their vehicle and never will be. It is a work environment. Keep it clean and tidy by all means, can of Mister Sheen to keep the cab clean and an air freshener if you night out in a vehicle but anything else only benefits the truck owner. If you think about it, how many highly decorated fork lift trucks or loading shovels do you see out there?
