The Older Roadtrains

There are plenty of pictures like this one, of the older roadtrains, to be found at This Site. David, there are a couple of Buntine’s motors in there.

In the search box, enter road train, there are 22 pages of photographs under that particular search.

Thats a TNT container on the back there …

Well spotted fella, the picture was taken in 1973 and TNT was founded in1946 in Sydney, as Thomas Nationwide Transport.

Lucky they didn`t do International Transport…? ( I mean, what would their logo be then…?)

Yes, by Ken Thomas and no, not of Guyhirn  .

Will look later Dave, rushing off to the vets to get the all clear on the
greyhound’s poorly paw :unamused: . Remarkable how rapidly it got better when I told
her she couldn’t come walking with the Spaniel and me.

Thanks for the help in Wisbech BTW, deal is done and sorting the transport
now.

programme on motors tv this week all about australian road trains could be interesting.

Finally got to see the site Dave, I am having severe problems with Wanadont
at the moment.
A few comments.

  1. The KW of Buntines was obviously well after my time and much posher :unamused:
  2. Loadng the cows in Qld. brought back memories of that side loading
technique. Very efficient just driving forward slowly to each door. No
    uncoupling to do.
  3. The picture of those brand new rail lines being loaded for the Territory
reminded me of the 60s when they had to make do with 2nd hand rails from
the Nullarbor, transported north by Co-Ord (Buntine) roadtrains.
  4. I liked the pictures of Ted Stiles’ Outback Transport Fodens, especially the
one with the bonnet of a car peeping out from under the trailer. Parked there
for the shade I suppose.
  5. The Commer with the single trailer may well have been Buntine’s too. Noel
started in the Territory with one such Commer.
  6. The trucks refuelling at the pumps in Katherine look like Buntine’s colour
scheme, though I couldn’t see any names.

Good site Dave, thanks for the link.
