There being so few British tricks going over these days makes me think it’s about time you land locked island dwellers should salute us, the international heroes that keep our flag flying abroad. We risk our lives day in and day out to bring exotic goods from the continent. Christmas isn’t Christmas without an Italian turkey and Spanish vegetables*. Heroes, every last one of us

Some elements of this post I’ve made up. I can do that as I’m a hero

Alcaline. As for Matthew’s they aren’t all that big are they? Admittedly you see them all over place but I don’t think they are in same size league as S&K

Matthews being the lot who sent someone out to get their truck but wouldn’t bring back their dead drivers body. Definitely aren’t big in my eyes.

Yup… definitely sounds like I’m confused then!!!

There is a Slam international (EE plates) that I’m assuming are part of the same company…also last week I was delivering in shepshed and the ind est was full of slam’s trucks all with curtains round…not seen any of them til recently, where did they spring from■■?

You should have read beyond the headline, it wasn’t quite that cut and dried

Indeed we are, keeping our shelves stocked with the exotic fruits of our toils and showing those horrid foreign types the best of British produce.

What about FTL from Portsmouth, I thought they did quite a lot of European, mostly France?

Yes mate we are still going over the water

If we’re going to derail this thread even further to any company’s that go across to Europe.

Alphatrans. For the past 8wks or so they have been sending 2-10 UK registered truck across to Europe weekly. A few have taken the opportunity to weekend out there. And it’s not just western Europe. At one point we had UK truck in Romania…

Really bet that’s just the northern drivers doing that . Two just left Gravesend to go onto euro work elsewhere. Or is just quiet up north

I thought Alcaline were foreign but had a UK base, just what I’d assumed.

I saw one of Richard Longs parked in Calais the other week so still going over it seems.

You do see Matthews all over the place, I seem to see them at the Swiss Border every time I’m there.

A.

No, British through and through

Not quite … Italian … used to be called aurora based in Chatham and Turin then moved to Aylesford then at some point changed to Alcaline late 90’s early 2000’s then moved to Lympne

Slam got into Amazon work, and as Amazon rapidly expanded, so did Slam. The same goes for Cross Transport, who, incidentally, do European work, as I was chatting to one of their drivers last night - based in Brum. Slam have Slam International for Euro work.

It was just the immingham drivers, dunno why the gravesend didn’t go/ offered.

The euroside were short of drivers from what we were told.

I think they are too busy with city island and royal wharfe in Gravesend and most don’t want to be away

I today make delivery by British reg truck from British company to Poland.

Is Richard Long still going? Just thinking I’ve not seen any of their lorries in a long.while

They’re advertising for drivers, so I assume they’re still going.

They currently have two units running beet into Cantley.

Like most hauliers in Norfolk, it doesn’t matter how big you get or what type of work the rest of your fleet does, you’ve always go to have a few running on Sugarbeet.

PS I’m sure the adverts said European work, so they weren’t looking for the Beet Boys, unless they’ve started running loads into Reims.

And…what a perfect way to muddy up your truck :grimacing: Roads awash with ■■■■■ turning at the white house all the way into Cantley.
Used to notice most hauliers would use the oldest rattiest units on beet work, dont know if thats still the case??
