I always wanted to get into the euro driving game just like my ex father in law (RIP) did but sadly by the time I’d been driving for a few years and got the experience the euro game had just about finished so couldn’t find a job doing it. Then kids came along so my priorities changed somewhat. One of my ‘career’ regrets [emoji17]

They’re advertising for drivers, so I assume they’re still going. They currently have two units running beet into Cantley.
Like most hauliers in Norfolk, it doesn’t matter how big you get or what type of work the rest of your fleet does, you’ve always go to have a few running on Sugarbeet.
PS I’m sure the adverts said European work, so they weren’t looking for the Beet Boys, unless they’ve started running loads into Reims.
And…what a perfect way to muddy up your truck
Roads awash with [zb] turning at the white house all the way into Cantley.
Used to notice most hauliers would use the oldest rattiest units on beet work, dont know if thats still the case??
I haven’t done beet for well over 20years, it was a really good way for me to get driving experience after passing my test, as they need drivers for it so will take on a newbie, the company I drove for had a mixture of FL7’s and some F7’s they dragged out each year for the campaign. But you do see some good motors as well, normally the ones owned by a farmer with one or 2 trucks on agricultural work all year. I wouldn’t want to do it now, but I know drivers who do it every year and seem to like it, and a few others who only ever seem to do the beet campaign then do something else for the rest of the year.

Used to notice that too. As you say, farmers in particular, remember seeing Wroxham Home Farms trucks each year running beet but that was the only time you ever saw them on the road. November onwards really was a muddy filthy mess of a road running into Cantley…

I believe the oldest running in at the moment is a W reg (2000■■), there are also a couple of 67 plates.
The road isn’t overly muddy at present, I travel it at least twice a day.

Yeah I suppose it’s not too late. My youngest is 14 so I guess in 3 or 4 years time when she’s busy doing her own thing I’ll be free to do whatever. Might look into it then. I have driven most of Western Europe but the largest vehicle being a merc 814 3 car transporter years ago.
Maru and Brian yeardley look interesting company’s to me…

Maru were bought by Lemans in September of this year, it will be interesting to see if they continue Maru’s commitment to driver accompanied operation or if they merge Maru into their unaccompanied trailer operation over time.

Maru have been taken over by lemans and are getting rebranded in the new year.

May see more of the Maru fleet on the UK roads in the future then pulling Lemans trailers out of Immingham, could also be an end to the Baltic contingent

You’d be lucky to get regular euro work with Virginia these days though as most of their work is UK Ireland. Many a driver has started tempted by their European prospects only to be stuck on UK work endlessly. They still do a fair bit of euro yes but not enough to keep everyone who wants it happy.
Not sure if Tap freight still go over from Barnsley.
