Thames Trader.
1979, a Bedford TK, thought I was King of the road , me and my mate used to overtake each other talking into our flask tops after watching Convoy
Then the first artic that I drove was a Magirus Deutz belonging to another mate, a cracking motor for it’s time.
First truck , daf 95.430 4x2 ,dx05gzd …was spoilt with the 95 cab , although my fh kicks the back out of it I’ve never bettered s 95 cab. Fresh out the test center was spoilt . I still see my first class 2 drive about . Now in the company of a farmer in lancs . Still going strong
Bedford TM taking my class.

I was an apprentice mechanic for the local council, and our yard was massive, so it gave me the chance to drive several wagons such as Sed Atkis, Renaults, Dodges etc. We did steam cleans for the Fire Brigade and they were frightening with the water tanks drained and a Perkins V8 singing away. They had at the time a turntable ladder Dennis with a Maggie Deutz air cooled engine that you could hear coming from miles away!
First legal wagon was a Cargo crewcab on recovery work.

Mine was a 7.5 tonne D Series. Owned by a company called: WW Glazing Ltd. Head office was in Liverpool, but we ran out of Huddersfield then moved to Bury. All the trucks were navy blue, with the words “Liverpool are Champions” painted in red on the back, which always made for fun when delivering around Manchester etc.
If my memory serves me well, the reg number was: RFY 566T
Started driving there when that when log books were still in use. Who remembers them?
