i must get some photos of pick up rear springs. as they are past design limits. the bump stops must work hard.
You would have thought that, after all the hassle and expense of adapting an unsuitable vehicle, it would be better to simply buy a 3.5 ton Transit chassis-cab, like they do everywhere else in the world. Is there some Thai legislative quirk which makes pickups more attractive?

This is very fancey, if it’s not stuck-on computer generated graphics but real paint then i imagine it took a while to do.
What kind of body is that, at first i thought tipper but it looks like straps or hinges on the side and is that a fancey wheel cover on it for more decoration

There are a few reasons why they use pickups, one is that import duties on Foreign vehicles are really high and make the vehicle too expensive to buy, second reason there is very low purchase tax on pickup trucks.

Presumably the pickups are built in Thailand. How long will it be before some enterprising manufacturer sets up a production line to assemble ckd kits of more suitable vehicles, like 3.5t chassis cabs etc?

the wife says why buy a small truck. when you can put the same load on a pick up.
Pfft. I say, why buy a small truck, when the same load will fit just as easily on a big one? I’ll never understand women.
Those smaller four-wheelers looked to be in the 5-10 ton gross category. There does seem to be a lack of 3-4 tonners. Maybe the oversize bodies on the pickups are demountable, so the vehicle can double-up as a car?
One of the reasons that the pick up is so popular
involves some kind of tax rebate…I believe.
Also Thais are some of the most resourceful people in
the world and their problem solving is legendary.
But if you try to question their logic from a western point
you wont get it.
I was just watching the news and a Thai guy was saying that
tourists should not worry about coups in Thailand as they
had done it many times now and hardly anyone gets
hurt anymore. Thats so Thai.
Good load.
