As for employer wise, I worked for ND for a few years and Tesco are a much better company to work for, some of the hoops you had to jump through at ND were beyond ridiculous. The work might be the same everyday but it’s simple, not a lot to moan about from me.
If i had a choice of employer between Tossco or ND I know which one I’d take…
It’s understandable with smaller firms scrapping stuff like HIAB wagons so other firms can’t undercut their rates, but you’d think that a firm as big as Tesco would just sell them on cheap.
Sorry to bump this back up to the top, I was making another collection of scrap the other day and took a snap of the pile of trailer chassis. I asked if I could have a pair of lights but the manager said no!
Wouldn’t it have been the lease company scrapping an ex tesco trailer?

Why would tesco lease trailers for over 8 years, doesn’t seem financially viable to me, I think they buy them outright, return to manufacturer/dealer for replacement when old then scrap.

Girlfriend works for tesco at a tesco express every day they throw 4 bin bags of cakes away plus the fresh and sandwiches waste of food and moneyIf they give that sort of stuff away and someone gets I’ll then it’ll be Tesco who are liable, that’s the main reason it all gets chucked
I asked a store manager “why not just sell it off at 10p at the end of the day?”
…“Because all our shoppers wouldn’t bother coming until…the last 10 minutes of the day!” was the reply.
FFS we’re talking about Tesco here - If they can afford to lose money on waste like that, then why can’t they motivate more of us to work for them on agency?

Units and trailers leased as far as I know. 5 years on units and 10 on trailers.

…I thought all that sliced bread ends up in the compactor?
It makes me wanna cry when I see perfectly good doughnuts being chucked in those “sugarich” dustbins at the RSU…
Talking of Nobbies as some have on this thread - You’re not allowed to take photos inside the RSU, nor take mobiles in either…
I guess that’s to stop any whistle blowers showing the public just how bad the waste really is in there…
You try and get a stock image of a sugarich dustbin, bags of “animal by product” left in the corner by the entrance door, and a floor all skiddy with squished bits of green tray dropouts…

- ie hefty competition-knockout pay rise, or even - shock-horror - take on some actual tescos uniform full timers, instead of “perma TRG contractors” and the like…?
They took on 140 tesco drivers at Reading and the 150 at Dagenham as well I think.

I’ve yet to meet one of them working out of Snodland. I always thought the “jobs” were Perm contracts via TRG, rather than Tesco Uniform, Sick Pay, Holidays, Seniority-building holiday entitlement, 4x12 hour shifts, £640pw.
Is anyone here actually on the tesco books rather than via some outside recruitment firm?
I’m thinking you can update us all on the terms and conditions as they stand today, rather than go on my very-likely-completely-wrong assessment of current T&Cs above.

Any drivers I’ve met from Snodland have also been agency, but as far as I’m aware Snodland isn’t run by Tesco, it’s a wincanton depot is it not?? Can’t remember the exact set up which a driver told me before, but I’m sure it’s not Tesco run
The Reading 140 drivers and 150 at Dagenham are employed by Tesco and are nothing to do with TRG, TRG do cover the agency side of things at both depots. Although at Reading they do also have another agency on site as well.
I’m employed by Tesco at Reading, have been for a year now, I was an agency driver at ND for 4 years previous to this and I’d have never left there to work for an agency at Tesco.
Like some have said, Tesco don’t own any of their tractors or trailers (like 99% of big firms inc E-S)
The lease company or bank will have made there money twice over on the trailers & have sold them all to a truck/trailer dealer cheap
there is a very limited market for the small ones so they will be weighing them in for scrap
Simples!
