I’ve yet to meet one of them working out of Snodland. I always thought the “jobs” were Perm contracts via TRG, rather than Tesco Uniform, Sick Pay, Holidays, Seniority-building holiday entitlement, 4x12 hour shifts, £640pw.
Is anyone here actually on the tesco books rather than via some outside recruitment firm?
I’m thinking you can update us all on the terms and conditions as they stand today, rather than go on my very-likely-completely-wrong assessment of current T&Cs above.Any drivers I’ve met from Snodland have also been agency, but as far as I’m aware Snodland isn’t run by Tesco, it’s a wincanton depot is it not?? Can’t remember the exact set up which a driver told me before, but I’m sure it’s not Tesco run
The Reading 140 drivers and 150 at Dagenham are employed by Tesco and are nothing to do with TRG, TRG do cover the agency side of things at both depots. Although at Reading they do also have another agency on site as well.
I’m employed by Tesco at Reading, have been for a year now, I was an agency driver at ND for 4 years previous to this and I’d have never left there to work for an agency at Tesco.
Yes, Snodland is Wincanton. I figured all the distribution depots were run by an outside firm such as them in combination with a few full time tesco staff. I always puzzled over the fact that the tescos shirts were always indoor people/management types (maybe they were just visitors?) but I never saw any tescos driver shirts there - even visiting from other depots, which I take it they don’t actually do?
How come TRG are still doing agency at Dagenham IF they’ve taken on so many full timers at the tesco level?
Come to that, I keep hearing that “Snodland is about to close down” - but it never actually seems to happen. Not been in there since first week of January btw, so apoligies in advance if I’m a tad out of date here.

I cant speak for definite about other depots, but I know Reading and Dagenham aren’t run by anyone else but tesco, both warehouse and transport. Granted there’s probably just as many agency staff as tesco staff on both sites, for whatever reason that is I’m not sure, maybe so when it’s quiet the agency staff can be cut right back but the depot can still operate on the Tesco Staff. Snodland is the only depot that I know of that’s not staffed by Tesco, I’ve never met a Tesco driver either from Snodland, most say they are long term agency that I speak to. As for it closing, I think that was the case, but I think it’s had a reprieve, but for how long, who knows.
TRG supply drivers to Reading and Dagenham, there’s no “IF” about both them depots having full time employed Tesco Drivers, both do, I’m out of Reading and I know there’s at least 1 driver from Dagenham on here. but it’s the same as a lot of companies, they only have enough full time staff to run during the quiet period, anything above a quiet period is filled by the agency drivers.
There is nothing in the pipeline for snodland closing, It has just taken on more work for the south east from the southampton dept to replace london work that we took from them.
