Heres another one dennis, you might remember!!!

Sorry Vic,I do remember the Brady Mercs but I left in Jan '68 and when this shot was taken I was probably running a larger fleet than Brady’s!!! Cheers Dennis.

A larger fleet then Brady’s? They were a substantial company Dennis, between £10-£14m turnover, which at the time is very impressive for a haulage company.

Lets not get into that one again "

Don’t forget they gained quite a few more vehicles when they bought Caffreys out putting them over the 100 mark.
Steve.

As I’ve said previously Steve,I’ve no desire to get into who had the biggest fleet ! However,it was always a trait at Brady’s( quite harmless, but amusing!)to inflate their fleet size.I re-call my now RIP old pal Malc Woodhouse telling me after a trip he made by train to London with Jack. That if you were to believe the size of the Brady fleet at the time( 1970/1) there would have been a non-stop line of 110’s lined up,continuously outside B & W motors workshops awaiting service.I have to say, nothing in the interviening years made me think differently ! So “georges” goading about who ran the largest fleet between Bradys and Bewicks must remain the subject of speculation ! I know what the later size of the Bewick fleet was, fact, and we could match anything Brady could muster without a doubt. But bear in mind I was very friendly with both Bob snr. and Jack in particular and, accordingly, held them both in very high regard and I always will.So there is absolutely no way i will,or would, get into a slanging match about fleet sizes !! Cheers Dennis.

No slanging match on my part just curious, when Brady’s were at max capacity regarding vehicles jack had been dead a number of years.
Steve.

Probably you are correct Steve, the Brady fleet probably did increase in size after Jacks day but, from memory,so did the “exageration” of their fleet size!! Cheers Dennis.

Do not “jest” Steve, even that would have been included on the “fleet” as a motor !! Dennis.

I remember a few years ago I add access to the FAME database and I did some research into Brady’s for some reason or other. They had quite an interesting financial structure (labyrinth you could say) they owned companies I had never heard of i.e. Tanda Transport Ltd and had some holding companies, they also had two overseas company T Brady International NV and T Brady Continental BV, the former being based in Belgium, and the later in the Netherland. If I remember correctly T Brady used Hill Samuel Bank (this was in the public domain) I found it odd a road haulier using these instead of an high street bank.
I remember also doing some research into Eddie Stobart Ltd and found out that they had liquidated Eddie Stobart International Ltd well before it was in the public domain, a few feathers were rattled when I mentioned this.

OK now back to haulage!

I
they had an office in zeebrugger Belgium and I went there at the age of 14 when I was a second man on a wide load.

I recall chatting to Bob at a “do” in London one time and he told me he always looked for a deal where he got his “divi” off the starting price i.e. the cheapest motor. So it follows that he would buy the Iveco cheaper than a Volvo, but the Volvo would work out to be the cheapest motor in the long run !! I always thought his idea was false economy, but hey! that was his method, others had a different one !! Cheers Dennis.

Here’s one for you Dennis, must of been before you bought them out as sheeting not up to scratch on the fells.

Could it of been Nobbie Clark on tanks in the F88. That’s Nobbie Volvo in the earlier picture from local paper ref drivers on strike.
