I just looked on a route planner & it comes out at 6hrs 4min add an hour for time at 5 drops 7hrs 4min add 45min break 7hrs 49min add 15 for morning checks etc 8hrs 4min plus added time for being in a truck so its easy to do it in 9 1/2 hrs thankyou very much cased closed
Well, we’ve only got your word for that. I googled the places you mentioned and it came out at 7hrs12mins but I rearranged it and got 6hrs52. I smell…0
Try it on other route planners then starting point severn beach avonmouth.
At the end of the day your opinion doesnt bother me that much. If you told me a run takes you X amount of time i would never argue with you unless i had actually done that route myself in a truck at the same time of day that you do it. Wouldnt matter what a route planner told me. I have done the route you havnt so i think i know better than you.
The only [zb] i see is coming from your mouth. Dont see how anyone can argue when you havnt done the run. What a joke

So, if I do a job by getting in my truck and working, as opposed to sleeping on company time in a lay-by, I’m carving it up? Hmm, now I’ve been off the road for quite a while doing other lines of work - and in NONE of them has it been deemed to be acceptable to have a bit of a snooze on company time…

Thats why alot of these guys become drivers so they can get away with it. Like youve said alot of other jobs you would never get away with it when the boss can see what your upto. I think its quite sad really, people that get on with the job & get it done are accused of carving the job up but all the drivers who string the job out are the proffesionals & they think we are the ones with something to learn…think again…would your bosses be happy if you told him you deliberately took 12hrs to do a job that could easily be done in 10 without rushing about. I dont think so but then again your bosses probably have no idea what you get upto.

I do a job like this.
-
Get in to work, usually a bit early to allow for traffic, don’t like being late.
-
Take the necessary time checking the truck, paperwork and load are all in order. 15 mins is the minimum to keep VOSA happy, personally I dont think that’s quite enough, I usually spend nearer to 30mins doing this and that’s when everything is ok.
-
Head off on the job and obey the Highway Code whilst ignoring peanut eating chimps on sc’s behind. Sticking to the 50 on duals and a self imposed 50 on Motorways means I nearly always have clear road in front of me and not looking at the arse end of a trailer for mile after mile, much more civilised!
-
Have legally required breaks when suitable, not while unloading.
-
Work done, head back following the above.
No little sleeps, I want to get home too, not interested in hanging the job out.
I stand by my comments earlier!

And you havn’t had a stroke or heart attack yet

But just as I thought one of the new breed of ‘truck drivers’

And just by the by I reckon I could take 30mins off any run you do

Experience ‘you know it makes sense’

Dave mate, you are wasting your time by banging your head against the wall. You know that this job has been in a constant downward spiral for the last god knows how many years by these guys by carving good jobs up, working holidays for single time, trading holidays for spotlights (
ffs), giving up things willingly that past generations have fought tooth & nail for,( and then trying to justify it by repeating company BS) and the list goes on. Just do what I do, that is do your job, shake your head and say nowt, and look at them with the contempt they deserve, and tell yourself they WILL eventually learn.
I drive a crummy daf cf day cab, dont work holidays for less then double time but prefer not to work them, dont give a monkys about spotlights a trucks a truck, if another driver wants to string the job out thats upto them but dont get ■■■■■ with me for doing the job the way i do it. You dont like it because drivers like us put you drivers to shame & your boss might find out you have been taking the ■■■■ out of him for yrs

Well maybe your not as clever as you think, just because youve been driving for donkys years doesnt mean you no everything & your right & im wrong. Youve been doing the job your way for many years & ive been doing it my way. You just carry on working how you work & i will carry on being selfish & carving the job up just because i like to get the job done.

I,m not getting as you so eleqouently put it," ■■■■■■ or anything else with you son, Im just doing what I said looking, shaking my head and thinking
… And you are putting me to shame are you?
Yeh right.
davepenn54:
You are not on company time when you are on a legally required break and you are freely able to dispose of your time in whatever manner you wish. Pulling the curtains and grabbing some zzz’s during your 45 is not dragging the job out it’s replenishing the old energy cells

That’s true enough Dave but in my case we are paid our breaks. Company/depot policy is that we must stop 5 mins before the 6 hours (RTD), 4.5 hours (drivers regs) and must take at least 20, 35 or 50 mins at any qualifying break period. They don’t encourage split breaks but don’t ban them either preferring to let the driver decide as they see fit.
As an aside I found that snoozing in my break left me feeling worse than not, others foound it helped, each to their own. I also work as a day man so don’t mess my body clock up buy getting up at the beck and call of the alarm clock. Sometimes work late into the evening but rarely past midnight, always wake up when the body tells me and so much more civilised. If i feel the drowsiness creeping in I can stop for a “comfort break” of toilet, quick coffee 15/20 mins. So much easier than dragging the truck out of a ditch.

I can only agree with this post and for tyler4164 it is the same old story coming out of yer mouth ‘everyone else is dragging the job out and I’m the only one who does the job right and also quicker than everyone else so I must be right and anyone who disagrees must be lazy or taking the ■■■■ out of their employers’

You started this by accusing other people who don’t agree with your view as being lazy, dragging the job out and taking the ■■■■

Grow up fella
we are just truck drivers some, like me, are naturally better than others, but there are those, like yerself who need to find an outlet to big themselves up.
I’m down your way tonight and tomorrow so just drive on by if you see me in a lay by as I’m obviously dragging the job out, yer muppet

I dont give a rats arse if people agree with me or not but it doesnt mean im carving the job up for getting my work done & wanting to get home.
Have you actually read your previous posts?? All i said was the last driver had dragged the job out to get more money & that i dont like dragging the job out & enjoy my own life. It was you & some others who were accusing me of carving the job up & spoiling it for others so maybe you should take a long hard look at yourselves first. Your the muppets not me. You can accuse me of things but dont like it when i do the same to you. [zb].
I dont need to big myself up on a forum or really care what people think of me. I just do the job im payed to do & thats it.
We are truck drivers & thats nothing to brag about is it■■? Get real
davepenn54:
Well you obviously don’t have the ability to interpret what has been written
I never said you broke speed limits or tipped on breaks or did anything illegal. I’ve brought you to task because in your little world it seems everyone else drags the job out and is paid for sitting in lay by’s. You have explained how the other driver had done this run for 7yrs and now you do it but you do it a whole 1 hour quicker

I know if I had been moved off a regular run after 7 yrs I would be ■■■■■■ off and even more so if I had to put up with someone like yerself saying I had been dragging the job out and you have proved that by doing it that little bit quicker.
Think its you who needs to review what you have written as the story has changed over time to suit your abusive responses.
Still think youv’e carved the job up and you will feel mighty ■■■■■■ off when the next muppet comes along and does it to you

And I gaurantee that will happen at some point in the future
And that bloke may well come on here and say how the last fella (you) was dragging the job out because he has been able to do it 30mins quicker.
There you go I have now explained my position in the most simple terminology possible even you should be able to understand that
But then again going on previous responses maybe not

Regards
Dave Penn;
Look here you [zb] i just said i get on with my job the way im happy to do thats it. [zb]. I dont love my job so much that i would be ■■■■■■ off if someone came along & done my run quicker. I would say fair play & that they must also have a great personal life. I work to live not live to work. I do whatever run im told to do no matter how long it takes or how bad it is. [zb]
Have a Plymouth and a Bournemouth to go with those other drops…you ain’t doing enough!
Now now, ladies. Play nice and don’t get your ■■■■■■■ in a twist…
Wiretwister:
Tyler. Take a step back young man. that last post is way OTT with the personal abuse. It’s an internet forum not real life.

Agreed, but I think Dave has been a bit over the top as well…
