Stupid wreckless driver

No excuse for tailgating, end of.

No repky from op then?

Yeah I tend to agree. It does seem strange that you stayed within flashing distance of this apparent killer in a 44 ton truck.

Why did you not either speed up, slow down so he could overtake you, or pull off and let him travel on without threatening you?

It would be interesting to hear the other side of this story.

I would just like to emphasise I do not condone any form of motorised intimidation, but like alix776, I do feel there’s more to this than we have read in the OP’s 2nd post!

^^this^^

It does happen though, I’ve been a ‘victim’ of bullying from a lorry driver, only the tables got turned PDQ :smiling_imp:

When I was working for MB I had to have a car with the three pointed star, so obviously I got the best one I could, no harm in that, I worked bloody hard for my money, yet people’s attitude to me on the road was much different than it would’ve been if I was driving a clapped out Mondeo and I encountered a supertrucker who took this to extremes. Heading south west on the A303 and we came to the end of the dual carriageway just west of the Naafi roundabout.

I was jogging on and went to pass this Actros wagon and drag, it turned out not to be, this ‘professional’ didn’t want me coming past him, even though there were still two open lanes, so he swerved out to straddle the two lanes and prevented me from passing, at the next roundabout there was plenty of room for me to pass, but he used every bit of road, now I know exactly how much room a lorry needs, so the fact that he was doing this was for one reason and that was to prevent me from passing him, why I do not know, as I said, I was jogging on and my 320cdi was not exactly going to hold him up in a limited lorry on a road where he was restricted by law to 40mph.

I did manage to get round him on the exit to the roundabout by a bit of having a lot more bottle than he assumed I would have, at this point I was going to do my own version of a roadblock and have a quiet little word, but thought better of it, instead I did 40mph on the S/C and 56mph when it opened up to D/C again, on that long drag down to the Wiltshire county line I had to giddy up a bit as he let it go down there, but I remained in front, doing everything I could to ■■■■ him off, windscreen washers making his fly spattered screen all streaky, rear fogs, speeding up when he pulled out to pass me, left foot braking to get the brake lights on without slowing down when he was right up my arse, slowing right down at the bottom of any hill on a S/C, everything that ■■■■■■ me off, I did to him and I was laughing my ■■■■ off all the way down.

So as much as we don’t want to believe it, there are more than a few lorry drivers out there who drive like a complete hunt (sp) they don’t think twic about holding another lorry alongside them for miles on end, or tailgating anyone who dares to go 0.00001mph slower than them, so why do you think they will act any different when they’re behind a car

Cars can also be classed as killing machines. The sooner they bring in some kind of law that states that a man with a red flag shall walk in front the better for all truck drivers.

I always remember my mates teenage son coming home & complaining about this idiot driver . " He stayed 6" from my bumper all the way into town." " Was he in front or behind?" Asked his dad. " In front!" Replied the boy.

OTS:
If someone was tailgating me id slow down and let them past… its as easy as that

slow down are you for real?i was speeding up cos this idiot was nearly in the back of my car.

merc0447:
This makes no sense if it wasn’t s/c. Ive got a feeling you’re one of these people that when they see a lorry overtaking them they speed up, then the lorry drops back in, then you slow down again, then the lorry trys another overtake and you speed up. You probably dont even realise you’re doing it. This happens regular.

If he is tailgating you for 5 miles then that must mean your right in his speed limiter window and if he has got that close to you that you feel the need to grass him up and ■■■■■ on here about it then he should have had enough speed to go past you unless you where playing silly buggers.

Here is a question why didnt you ease off or speed up? I know you dont have to, but if you have your family in the back, is this not the correct course of action?
.
Need more details or you’ll get ripped apart in this thread, not condoning this lorry driver alleged behavior but its not adding up.

well im not one of these people that speed up at all when a lorry or any other vehicle want to overtake.ok then merc why didnt this driver ease off instead of insisting on tailgating me?hes meant to be a PROFFESIONAL DRIVER is he not?i was merely driving my car using the correct speed for the road i was on with my family and i get bullied into what action on a single carriageway road with other vehicles in front of me and this idiotic driver behind?tell me what i was meant to do then merc? :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Born Idle:
O/p a middle lane hog perhaps? I’m taking no sides, but why not either accelerate away from the truck (even adding just a couple of mph will soon lose a truck when he’s on his limiter) or as suggested, drop off your speed and let him past? To have him tailgating for 5 miles suggests the o/p didn’t or wouldn’t change lanes. I’d sooner come off the gas for 30 seconds and let him go (even if he is a stupid, impatient t**t) than risk his judgement!

fair enough point but then how the hell can i change lanes in a one lane carriageway???overtake then cause a serious crash???come on this was the A1 for goodness sake.

But not fast enough. Sorry mate but you can’t drive.

Stop?

We’re not condoning the guy bullying you but i’m incredulous that you couldn’t come up with a plan to get yourself out of an incredibly uncomfortable situation.

this bloke is on a S/C and the truck is fiddling his farmer jiles, so he speeds up to 50 to try and get out of trucks way, so then he speeds up to 56.1 mph and truck is now well and truly fiddling his farmers! so truck is now doing 16mph over speed limit and driver of car is slated I would personally of slammed the brakes on so the trucker would of lost his speed report him to the police and Vosa for dangerous driving better still give the details and complain to the traffic commissioner, that is if that was the case but you have not made your speeds clear etc … still the trucker should be ashamed of himself, after all the male genital was getting paid to drive so why rush!

ok then silver surfer if i slow down me and my family are killed because this lorry is not stopping,i am on a single carriageway road i overtake the vehicle in front we are killed by oncoming traffic,if i speed up ill end up in the back of the vehicle ahead of me.what the hell do you want me to do then?and yes it was a very uncomfortable and awful situation for all my family. :imp:

You said you were on the A1 motorway in your first post dude. So what was it? A1 motorway or not? It does make a difference you know. I’d imagine that a motorway might have a tad more than one lane. But hey, what do I know?

well i was on the A1 but obviously single carriageway,it then eventually goes to a dual carriageway.

dazamc do not expect any sympathy for bad lorry driving on this forum. Not many will accept there are many attrocious lorry drivers on our roads who do not deserve to have a license.
Some on here just do not realise what can happen when a car driver is tailgated by a truck and therefore try to make out the car driver needs to get himself out of the situation.
The fact is that a truck sitting on a cars back bumper can absolutely petrify the car driver into a situation where they just do not know what to do and more or less freeze.
Some on here have no concept of how other drivers can be affected by there bad driving and just tend to deny all responsibility.
These selfish bullies need to be eradicated from our roads ASAP.

thank you albion1971 i wasnt looking for any sympathy just to get the message across this driver really needs to be more aware because if he keeps on driving like that he will cause fatalities thats for sure.some drivers dont realise how shocked you get when any vehicle for that matter is bearing down on your vehicle, especially when my family were in the car also.

Direct question for the OP.
Are you a proffessional Heavy Goods Driver, or just a car licence holder who gets a perverse thrill by skulking around on various different trade forums?

Its funny you should say that, I had a truck tailgating me and I mean seriously tailgating me last night . I was doing 125kph at the time !! Luckily I have a 63AMG so I left the Barstward for dead, but he was motoring and not slowing for anyone and probably doesnt even have a licence
