I don’t think any lorry driver on here would ever get in a situation with a truck like that if they had there family with them.Like it was said earlier if you’ve got all day let him go if not why are you driving at exactly the same speed as him for so long 
Tailgating is not on, ever…The speed limit is exactly that, a limit, not something to aim for …I can’t believe that some people are justifying it…I wouldn’t have e-mailed the company though, just slowing down a couple more notches would have sufficed for me, just to annoy the ■■■■ even more…But I’m an awkward git at the best of times anyway.
And by slowing down you could let the driver past. Instead of getting 5 miles of abuse like the OP. I can’t tolerate tailgating but as has been said, got to be more to it.

Regardless of the full story, as a responsible driver of a 44tonne killing machine, I wouldn’t tailgate anyone, for one it raises the chances of stonechips on my pretty painted truck!
I would’ve backed off 2mph, let the car go, if however the OP did the same I would’ve pulled into the nearest garage/layby for coffee and a pee to let him go (as I quite often do on the A17 when stuck at the back of a queue behind a tractor)
IMO both parties are wrong here, the trucker for allegedly doing what he did and the OP for allowing him to!
Well the OP states A1 motorway so either truck was on limiter at 90 clicks or Patrick from norn iron was doing 70 mph! Tailgating is a big no no 
but I’m sorry OP EITHER speed up or once you’ve overtook STOP DITHERING AND GET ON WITH IT! I have a saying " if you get overtook, by a truck 
give your licence back

ill start this post by saying how very informative this forum is for information regarding all driver issues regarding safety out on the road.Now afew weeks ago i was driving southbound on the A1 motorway near to west moor with my dad and two year old son when a what i can only describe as a bloody idiotic and wreckless driver tailgated my car for about 5 miles.Not only did this stupid driver tailgate but had the nerve to flash at me for about a mile of that distance also.
I always do 50 mph on the a1 in my car on the way to work,I’ve never had a issue with trucks ,they just fly by,try not to do 60 mph as that’s about the equivalent of what most limiters are set too,either 50 mph or 65 mph and you should be fine.
If it was one of our drivers from my company I must apologise for there behaviour,it fell well below what is expected of us,a freindly wave and smile is what you would normally get from one of our drivers,our company very much value there image with the general public so if it was one I hope it hasn’t soured your image of us,if you see us about come over ,have a chat,photoes,kids can sit in truck etc,etc,you’ll see the real us,knights of the road.

Maybe,but I do know when I’m having a ■■■■ day,that the smile on that little kiddies face when you let him sit in the drivers seat makes my day,that wave as you pass by,couple of blasts on the horn,not too much trouble for me,company expects it,but irrespective of what they require I’d still do it.

Listen pal, the only people who can get right up my arse and tell me how I should be driving are the police…Tailgaters are the scum of the earth, and I’d slow down to 10mph if I thought my driving was offending someone so much.
If you were that bothered about it, you could have either sped up, slowed down forcing an overtake, exited the road or moved in to a different lane?
Ok so the guys a knob for intimidating you but you could have got yourself out of the situation very easily unless you forgot to add that it was a single lane with no overtake options or escape options for 5 miles?

Ive got a feeling you’re one of these people that when they see a lorry overtaking them they speed up, then the lorry drops back in, then you slow down again, then the lorry trys another overtake and you speed up. You probably dont even realise you’re doing it. This happens regular..
If this is the case mate and I don’t condone tailgating let alone tailgating with a family in front but you have to realise there is nothing more frustrating as a driver then this and when it happens I knock a few km/h off the cruise control and still I end up up the arse off the car infront it’s as if there trying personally p@#s me off! Somedays I wish I had a bazooka in the cab to clear them out my sodden way!
