Stupid wreckless driver

Slow down gradually & stop with your hazards on and then he’ll overtake you, no problemo… Jesus wept.

We are all assuming this car was doing 40 on a S/C, how fast was the truck going?? trucks should not tailgate full stop, why should he slow down and let him over take ■■? the trucker is in the wrong end of, how can you justify what the idiot in the truck was doing.

Well I’ve read the op and subsequent posts and am now gonna give my tuppence worth.

I think we all can agree that the truck drivers actions were totally reckless and out of order, there is no excuse for intimidation and tailgating as described in the op. however, (and this in no way excuses the truck driver) I think we’ve all been in similar situations before and have reacted in many different ways.

The problem I do have is why on Earth would the op with his child in the car allow the scenario to continue? I wouldn’t consider taking my child with me whilst I climbed electric pylons, so why would I remain in an obviously dangerous situation with a loved one in the car with me?

I understand now that the op was on a single carriageway stretch with no chance of overtaking vehicles in front and I also believe that the op would never endanger his child by overtaking the said truck and squeeze into a tiny gap in font of it because that would be dangerous and bad driving wouldn’t it?

But why for the love of God would you choose to remain in such an obviously perilous situation when in the 5 miles he menaced you for you could have simply pulled into a layby, let him pass, and then decide how best to tackle his intimidating driving?

Apparently Tailgating is one of the biggest menaces and causes of road rage according to motoring organisations. So much so that the government in 2012 were considering legislation which will give the police powers to issue on-the-spot fines of £90 and 3points to those who do it.
So whatever your views, drive safely as tailgating is dangerous in any vehicle.
Those HGV drivers who condone and practice it should voluntarily give up their license IMHO.

Yes Sollly could not agree more.I also have heard about on going plans to catch and punish offenders but from what I can gather it will be done covertly with cameras and letters sent in the post.
Apparently it is all ready to run and the sooner the better as far as I am concerned.

Well if you’d have read all my comments on the post discoman you’d have realised that I’m not condoning anything just giving the op a suitable plan to avoid an uncomfortable situation, the above is exactly what I would do if someone was tailgating me and it was annoying me.

Just to add, not in this case but I think a lot of people sometimes don’t even realise they’re annoying the person in front by tailgating, if there mind is elsewhere for instance.

Surely not SS.I realise a lot of drivers do not know what a safe distance is but anyone driving a truck tailgating another vehicle and day dreaming wants shooting.
Letting your mind wander at anytime is danderous in a truck but doing it in a situation like that is suicidal.

If someone was tailgating me id slow down and let them past… its as easy as that

slow down are you for real?i was speeding up cos this idiot was nearly in the back of my car.

But not fast enough. Sorry mate but you can’t drive.

+1

Just another person out there who would put there family at risk just to prove a point. Rather then just pulling over and removing the danger you just carry on putting your own family in danger. Your just as bad as the lorry driver by not removing yourself from the situation. Not a youtube cyclist by any chance?

Yeah the lorry driver is a ■■■■ but do you need to allow the driver tailgate you for 5 miles?

If i was driving your little motor and i had a truck up my rear. I would speed up a little and sit at that speed. If the truck catches up i will then find the next lay by and pull in to it and allow said driver go past and on his way = Danger removed. I do this on a daily basis with my scooter when i have trucks very close behind me. I just pull in and wave them on. Whats the point in putting myself in danger just to show that driver who’s boss. As you have stated you was worried for your child’s safety but NO you carry on having that child in danger.

In cars that is Albion. You can see it in their eyes in the rear view half the time that the don’t realise they’re taking the ■■■■.

Direct question for the OP.
Are you a proffessional Heavy Goods Driver, or just a car licence holder who gets a perverse thrill by skulking around on various different trade forums?

as a matter of fact coreysboys i do indeed have my class 1 licence,as well as my adr if thats any good for you too.

SS is that not how fatalities occur then when drivers minds are going elsewhere? :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Thank you. That validates your ability to have a subjective discussion on the subject of trucks, rather than the opinion of a simple truck bashing car driver.

Regards.

Regardless of the full story, as a responsible driver of a 44tonne killing machine, I wouldn’t tailgate anyone, for one it raises the chances of stonechips on my pretty painted truck!

I would’ve backed off 2mph, let the car go, if however the OP did the same I would’ve pulled into the nearest garage/layby for coffee and a pee to let him go (as I quite often do on the A17 when stuck at the back of a queue behind a tractor)

IMO both parties are wrong here, the trucker for allegedly doing what he did and the OP for allowing him to!

Some of you are missing the point here.Yes you could say they are both at fault but if the truck did not put himself in such a position in the first place the car driver would not have to do anything and that is the way it should be.
Some car drivers are so frightened they are scared to do anything, for example a driver who has just passed his or her test or an elderly driver or just someone who has not much confidence.
I have witnessed it many times when doing driver training in cars (yes some even tailgate learners) and also when doing pass plus.I have even had a driver failing to respond to my instructions because they were so frightened.
These selfish morons have no concept of danger and how it affects other people.

ill start this post by saying how very informative this forum is for information regarding all driver issues regarding safety out on the road. Now afew weeks ago i was driving southbound on the A1 motorway near to west moor with my dad and two year old son when a what i can only describe as a bloody idiotic and wreckless driver tailgated my car for about 5 miles. Not only did this stupid driver tailgate but had the nerve to flash at me for about a mile of that distance also.    ill not give out details of name or company but you want to be bloody ashamed of yourself, driving a 44 tonne killing machine so close with no chance whatsoever with safety of anybody in your mind.i emailed this company regarding this driver and got a email back off them saying that due to an informed conversion with the said driver he was merely trying to warn me of a brake light that was out.what a load of rubbish my lights were absolutely fine and god knows how he knew i didnt even brake once if anything i was trying to get out of his way.i just hope this driver wakes up and pays attention with his driving or there will be casulaties where this driver is concerned.no doubt about that. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

quick question, where is west moor?

I know, i know but it annoys me.

Some people on here cannot see the bigger picture, only a truck sitting up the arse of a car and one person is to blame!
