weve had a POSITIVE RESPONCE so far and are now going thriough the SELECTION process ,so crap scheme,no-one will take it up then lads well it looks like theyve got enough applicants to be able to pick and choose who they want
I’m confused. If none of the Stobbie trampers are willing to take up this offer, and the only info Stobbies are willing to give out is that there is a conference at the NEC at the end of Feb to explain everything, where have Stobbies acquired “enough applicants” to be now able to “go through the selection process”?
Stan
How do you no none of the trampers took up the offer? could it be they might want to take it up but don’t have the money
If they haven’t got the money, they haven’t taken up the offer.
The original advert was asking for 5k, and the Sun asked for 12k. It still begs questions about the O licence.
If you wanted to do it with your own CPC and didn’t yet have one, you wouldn’t be looking at getting an O licence much before the end of July I would have said.
chicane:
so can you have an O licence without having the Operators CPC?
Yes, if you appoint a CPC holder as your transport manager, though VOSA are not too keen on this and will check that he has effective control of the company. The days when you could just stick down the name of a mate with a CPC who didn’t actually do anything are over now. You will also pay about £120 a month for someone doing this.

I would hope people are charging an awful lot more than that with the new rules. They suggest for 1-2 vehicles that you should be spending about 8h per week working for the licence holder and even at the current minimum wage of £6.08/hour that works out to just short of £211/month. If you work on a tenner an hour it’s almost £350/month.

As someone whose CPC certificate dropped through the letterbox today, so do I.
I have had that in mind as a holiday fund too. Supply and Demand, just need Beverley to get her finger out and close a few loopholes in my area
I believe an external CPC holder can manage a maximum of 50 vehicles, for a maximum of four companies now so many of the consultants will be thinning out their clients. I imagine Beverly Bell-end will be coming down rather heavily on this.
The Sarge:
So, they’ve found some people with money and no job - still doesn’t make it a good deal. There was a very positive response to time-shares once…
BTW, got a link to the story?
its in this weeks commercial motor[page 6],id guess most have already read it,but are too to mention it as it makes them look very foolish
Loads of people used to show an interest in time-share and sign up for seminars. Some got a millstone round their neck, some lost a lot of money and a few did okay
Loads of people used to sign up for pyramid schemes. The majority lost money while a very few made something
Loads of people respond to those emails from Nigeria. They’re idiots.
It doesn’t mean any of those things are actually a good idea or will be a definite success, it just means there are a lot of people who are seduced by flashy advertising. A very few of the many who showed an interest initially might get something from it eventually. Not the Nigerian email thing obviously.
Would you believe some people can’t even see that large numbers signing up for or showing an interest in something doesn’t make it an automatic success.

Big Truck: Sure its just like the “Contract Haulier” schemes that the quarries have been running for years, you will call yourself an O/D but your really just renting the truck on behalf of Stobarts and they will have you by the “short and curlys” at every throw of the dice.
Not really though because the quarries run none of their own trucks, just owner-drivers. They don’t give a crap which of the o/d’s hauls the stuff, as long as it gets delivered. The difference with this ESL thing is that the o/drivers will be competing against company-owned vehicles directly for the same work. Its one of the ‘schemes’ biggest problems.
If you use the code GAR on checkout they will know it is for an adult and the book will come with a free, limited edition, can of cider (possibly empty).
By the sound of it “ady12000” has been “got at” and had his small (very small!) brain removed and it has been replaced by a “fast eddie” company cassette or DVD.If I was allowed 5 minutes to read the “phantom” prospectus I bet I could boil it down into two sentences, the first one explaing in plain ■■■■■■■■ the draw backs and the second sentence suggesting an extremely simple reason as to why you shouldn’t touch the “scheme” with a 20ft barge pole.No doubt “ady” will have an equal and opposite reason for promoting the “Gold Plated” (not soild Gold! all that glitters is not necessarily Gold!) opertunity with which to start with £12000 and end up owing £12000 in probably 6 months time ! Bewick.
nedflanders:
why slab?
does he have subbies in ireland ?
How are they getting on with him?
You see some in their own livery, you also see Stobarts in places where you would never see the traditional Northern Irish hauliers go, for example I’ve seen Stobarts in South Armargh, you would never see a Montgomery, a Woodside in Crossmaglen.
