Not sure the quote from the md of Scania UK about our high level of service blah blah blah being quite true, i know of a major haulier who has moved to Volvo because the Scania service was well below par.

why slab?
does he have subbies in ireland ?
How are they getting on with him?You see some in their own livery, you also see Stobarts in places where you would never see the traditional Northern Irish hauliers go, for example I’ve seen Stobarts in South Armargh, you would never see a Montgomery, a Woodside in Crossmaglen.
Hows the oil smuggling business going then Tom
That old “Carbon Fuel Act” on “Larkins Road” still a bummer
Woodsides/Montgomerys don’t go to Cross cause its in the middle of nowhere and not a great deal of general freight from those parts, unless your pulling a tanker

We were an ‘all Scania’ company until someone from ‘above’ discovered that we were being scalped on the cost of servicing…phantom repairs, parts/work needed, vehicles going in for serviceing/maintenance and just being parked up but with an invoice being attached to the keys upon collection etc etc and so, we are in the process of changing to a DAF fleet. Now, after spending £5mill (possibly why we haven’t had a pay rise for 3 years) that same person has realised that DAFs are the biggest pile of ■■■■ on the road (considering it is the 21st century) with reliability issues and the fact that after the recent ‘cold snap’, most of them were non starters (2 years running) due to frozen fuel lines (design fault + we run bio fuel). I’m now hearing rumours that we will be returning to Scania and the ‘man from above’ wants the existing DAFs gone…ASAP.

It’s in the Sun newspaper, page 48." Become a Eddie Stobart Franchisee Partner "
What’s going on? I thought he was getting rid of trampers etc?
Or is this his new way forward in the future…
Eventually sub’ EVERYTHING out to O/D’s for silly rates, no fleets to worry about etc??
Would you do it though ■■..
its very difficult to understand there thinking at the moment[or maybe theres a master plan somewhere],they take loads of trampers of road and put them on days /nights,they change[cut] our pay due to x,y,z[pall levels down, supposedley],then they say more work starting, need trampers, starting next week, not long ago they said they couldnt make it pay unless truck runs 24/7, now more+more of us are going tramping, maybe thats the master plan, trampers onto days/nights 24/7,24/7 day /night drivers onto tramping, switch every one round and all will be fine

There is plenty of activity in these parts, yet I’ve never seen any Woodsides/Montgomerys, but I see Stobarts all the time. Saw one parked in Crossmaglen the other day, they are a common sight in Castleblayney and Dundalk.

Slab, was it a chipliner pal? Doing quite abit in Ireland and northern Ireland at present! Or they might be getting red diesel just over the border for their Fridges! Ahem, cough cough!
Still haven’t heard any word as to how this scheme works. Be interesting to know exactly what they’ve signed up for.
Has the penny not dropped yet , ? could Stobbart employed drivers consider the following ,does anyone think for one minute that an owner-driver would pay themselves time and half and double time for overtime, wait at an RDC for 3 hours and then have a 45 minute break , have a night out when you could be back to base , have a little tickle at the parking tickets ,can you see where I`am coming from ? . After a lifetime in the transport industry at all levels the last 17 years as a driver with a well known logistic operator I have noticed that very very poor productivity levels are now the norm among a great many drivers , again the owner-driver will almost certainly get thier fingers out and get on with the job !!! . You can see why Stobbart is almost forced to take this action , its now normal practice for many other companies in the same position .
They could pay by the day and not by the hour.

Typical snobbery towards South Armagh. Next time you are in Crossmaglen why not pop into Shorts Bar just off Ó Fiach Square for a few drinks!
Lets get back to Stobarts in Ireland, to answer some ones question, the ones I’ve seen always have curtain siders trailers some with lettering others plain.

good point, also think of the money saved from employer contribrutions in N.I,no sick pay no holiday pay, no bank holiday pay
and dont forget the pension scheme coming in next year which your company has to offer you…or am i wrong on that one?

I was talking to a Royal Mail driver the other day and we got on to wages and hours etc. He said he was on £450 per week take home and that he did about 8 hours per day.
Great I thought, dream job. Dead mans boots. Then he went on to say it wasn’t as good as it used to be and that some drivers ruined it by stretching the days out longer than they needed to be
He has only ever driven for RM so i think he’d be in for quite a shock should he venture out into the wild.

I have no problem with South Armagh,
beautiful part of the country and the “majority” of locals are salt of the earth, just a pity about the “bandits” though.
No different than Belfast if I’m honest.
Can be down about there quite often and honestly have not seen a Stobarts truck apart from the A1/M1 roads.
I’m intriged about your posting name though, Why “Slab Murphy” as that can’t be your real name(Living near Cross) as opposed to the man who lives on Larkins Road
Bit like me posting under the name of Jonny “Mad-dog” Adair or John “Bunter” Graham
