Well according to another of Ady’s cider fuelled rants, it appears they are fully subscribed by current employees. It makes me wonder why they have had to waste revenue advertising with the Soaraway Sun…

Oh ye of little faith,at this moment “ady” has a line of prospective “punters” down the pub and he is busily taking names and handing out prospectus’s ( no forcast of potential earnings though) by the sound of his enthusiasm earlier he’ll be there all night as there is a lot of SUN readers in that boozer and if the SUN has carried an advert it most definitely will be “kosher” !! Cheers Bewick.

weve had a POSITIVE RESPONCE so far and are now going thriough the SELECTION process ,so crap scheme,no-one will take it up then lads well it looks like theyve got enough applicants to be able to pick and choose who they want
I’m confused. If none of the Stobbie trampers are willing to take up this offer, and the only info Stobbies are willing to give out is that there is a conference at the NEC at the end of Feb to explain everything, where have Stobbies acquired “enough applicants” to be now able to “go through the selection process”?
Harry Monk:
If Stobarts were quiet, I wonder whether they would park their own trucks up, or those of the subbies (insert sarcastic smiley here)
Or will they sack a few more of their drivers, sell a few lorries, give the load to the subbie but at a vastly reduced rate, tell him how grateful he should be and slowly suppress rates and save themselves the aggro of more lorries and more drivers?
Ady is definitely a sun reader, he saw the sentence " a positive response " and took it literally.
What that means in business talk is.
One or two mugs have made enquiries but actually we are quite worried that single handedly we have screwed the rates so tight we can’t actually make any profit anymore and we are about go bust with such a bang. But at least we’ve got Ady believing every word we say.
Sure its just like the “Contract Haulier” schemes that the quarries have been running for years, you will call yourself an O/D but your really just renting the truck on behalf of Stobarts and they will have you by the “short and curlys” at every throw of the dice.
If you work out of a busy depot and have a planner with even half a brain you could possibly do OK, but in reality not any better than a company driver for the stress/hassle involved.
With Stobarts going down this O/D avenue my own personnal opinion is they must be getting it TIGHT

OK, 12 k Down gets me a Kermit lookin truck
then what… when do I get my dough back? I don’t see anything about when ye come to leave…
You don’t pay £12000 to them, you need £7000 in the bank to run your own truck.
so effectively £19k+,
12 for the truck
7 in the bank for the operators ticket
whatever it costs for the operators CPC
effectively solely contracted to stobbies
paying at least one other driver so its working 24/7
plus maintenance costs
all before you can take anything for yourself, hope anyone going down this road has a bucket load of veseline
fair enough coffee, but they’ve still got the unit and all the other running costs (including the trailer hire IIRC) to coverr, seems like a quick way of getting yourself into a deep financial hole to me.

Judging by the way the yank ‘mega carriers’ have gone with their ‘fleece’ lease deals, trailer, insurance and other running costs come out of the weekly settlement, which has left a lot of US drivers with ‘negative’ settlements by the time their ‘nickle n dimed’ to death, basically over there they end up leasing to ‘buy’ a job, decent money but by the time the charges are chipped away no better than wages, but if they try n chuck it in early, penalties apply!
