Spoken like a true sycophant ady, couldn’t really expect any better I suppose! Please don’t attempt to give the impression that until all the “franchise” info is disclosed we have to assume that it will offer prospective “franchisees” the opertunity to participate in “the fast eddie” land of “milk and honey” and that the margins that can be earned, over and above the total costs of operating will be substantial ! Anyone with knowledge of where the “Logistics” industry has been headed over the previous years will know that this will most certainly not be the case whatever the use of “smoke and mirrors” may have us believe otherwise.Look,it’s simple ady,it has long been known within the industry that “fast eddie” has always operated his motors on the slimest of margins, and those margins would have only applied to some of his “better traffic”.So the loads that will be on offer to the “franchisees” will most certainly be the crappy end of his rate schedule, which are probably uneconomic even if the O/D is paid 100% of the current rate. However, not being a Charitable organisation,“the fast one” will require his cut out of said uneconomic rate, and, after the deductions for other “goods and services” have been applied the poor mug, sorry,“franchisee” will have no chance to break even, never mind make a “crust”.Simples!!! sorry the weight of opinion dosen’t follow your “percieved wisdom” ady but you will, no doubt, see the light eventually I hope.Cheers Bewick.

coffees saying you should nt become a o/d because you have no experiance
No, that’s not what I said. I said some people going into this won’t have a clue about what is involved, costs and so on, which is not the same as just having no experience.
I agree with Bewick totally about this deal. (see my other posts) But I think Ady could make it as an owner driver, he has enough money behind him to buy a unit, he could hire a trailer and go subbing or just go traction only, he certainly isn’t scared of hard work, he moans enough when it is quiet.
But for christs sake, this Stobart thing is not an owner driver scheme, you will be led into a small room and royally shafted for a drivers wage or maybe less.
This scheme was supposed to be up and running in October, and lo and behold, the rush of Stobart employees is not forthcoming with bundles of Aunt Hildas inheritence. Now they are relying on the Sun reader who watches Ducks and Failures and Ice Road [zb]

Has Ady1 got his Operators CPC?
I’m wondering what happens if you buy in to this and ESL lose the contracts for the work your on and you get the bullet, what do you walk away with if the truck’s not yours to sell or put to use on other work? at least as an O/D with your own work/truck there’s options to look elsewhere.
i know when i looked at doing the same sort of scheme for a quarry company , the bloke that i went to see said to me, cards on the table what was i earning when i showed him my payslips , his words were stay where you are as i would be no better off !
good luck to anyone who goes for it, just make sure you do your home work and ask as many questions as poss.
it would be worth asking a few o/d for advice and wot sort of questions to ask them ,
What now…
On the news today they said the economy only grew 0.02% GDP, and we maybe heading for another recession!
Not that we feel like we’ve left the first one.
Will stobbies cut his rates even more then?? Where will it leave the O/D’s then?

The figure are just guesstimatesAnd that will be the main problem for a lot of people who go into this. They won’t have a clue about running a vehicle or the costs involved and the guesstimates will be their downfall.
like when we were 19 yrs old and bought our first house, all starry eyed, everyone one saying itll all end in tears, all his money goes on drink, football and women, but we got by,house now payed for

It all seems to be going round in circles, this thread !! Until Mo and Ady12000 take the “plunge” the “ponsi” scheme wont get off the ground will it.As far as the “ESL property deal” goes,no wonder one or two of the larger shareholders got exited about the “portfolio” being stuffed back into the Group when you look closely at how it unravelled. When they went public the “chuckle brothers” took the property side into their personal ownership thought it was a goldmine !) then when the [zb] hit the fan in the last financial crisis,Oh No, they landed into the “negative equity” trap !! No problem there then, just stuff it back into PLC group!! No wonder the politicians are wanting to legislate against PLC boards taking the ■■■■ out of their long suffering shareholders and if a suitable example is needed look no further !! Nice work if you can get !! Then fire a large % of your workforce and simultaneously announce a major sponsership of a national ball game,if I were still an employer I wouldn’t have the “brass neck” or neither would I insult my workforce by pulling a stroke like this, but then this is modern buisness,no conscience or morality any longer. all I can say is that whatever befalls them in future either operational **So even though I have no axe to grind either way for “fast eddie”**or financial will be richly deserved whatever it is. Bewick. You have no axe to grind because you’ve worn the axe away
Don’t know why they don’t just say “We guarantee you will earn a grand a week, cash money, clear in your sky rocket if you sign up”.
Sorted.
is a grand a week what all ODs get?
The reason most Trampers didn’t take up Stobarts offer is! The Planning is diabolical! All the tech to make it easier and they open an academy and still can’t get a decent planner!
Anyone who takes up this offer! You have been warned!!

Yes, and a Mars bar.
No good to me then i prefer snickers
Hiya…i’ve not read all this site but would like to say…In the 80’s Tarmac come up with this idea of
the driver buying the truck and becoming owner driver… it just did’nt happen tarmac had a garage
for the drivers to use(at a price) fuel cost was stopped from there account… there lorries got older
and the rates got less and hey presto it came to a sudden stop… there was the odd driver who made
the grade but not many, the lorries had to be in tarmac livery so drivers could’nt go to other quarries
for loads…I’d be verey careful… if you go to the drivers and old company site then onto welsh border
tippers you’ll see quite a few unhappy drivers waiting for payment and months without payment.
I think fread sherwood tried a simular (prank)■■? about 20 years ago i don’t know if that one worked.
John
weve had a POSITIVE RESPONCE so far and are now going thriough the SELECTION process
,so crap scheme,no-one will take it up then lads
well it looks like theyve got enough applicants to be able to pick and choose who they want
,
off for a pint, feeling a bit smug about making t/nets finest brains[cough, cough] look very foolish
oh by the way its in c.m,i thought id mention it as i knew you wouldnt
So, they’ve found some people with money and no job - still doesn’t make it a good deal. There was a very positive response to time-shares once…
BTW, got a link to the story?
ady,
im a bit confused mate?. you say your smug because theres a flood for o/d’s and i believe you are one of them?
yet on another thread you slate the same company for not giving you enough hours?
are you hoping the work will pick up once you join the scheme?, im not being funny with you just asking the question if your going for it good on you and i wish you all the best. i hope they do keep you busy.
i myself wouldnt touch them with a barge pole after working for them but thats me and i dont know what they are offering but stobarts being the firm they are cant see you making much more than being an employed tramper for them but with more responsibilty.
like i said just my opinion and i dont know the facts, thats where you have the edge so good luck.

Obviously “ady” your using the “royal” “weve” so you’ll be able to keep us all informed as to how the “ponsi scheme” will be progressing,of course!! You appear, very definitely,to have the “inside track” and are probably on the Company advisory panel.I only hope you don’t “go silent” as the scheme progresses and that you issue regular bulletins on the undoubted, roaring succsess, the scheme will prove to be !! Now no abuse when you stagger back in from the boozer as you’ve put yourself forward as an “honest broker” and we all hope you will conduct yourself accordingly, besides the Mods don’t take kindly to nasty verbage and we can’t afford to have you “switched off” at this juncture now you’ve given the “scheme” your full backing!! Cheers Bewick.
