Stobbies asking for O/D Trampers?

So you take all your work off one planner (company), but invoice it to different people?
Is that not a fiddle? Surely your ‘customer’ is the one who gave you the work, the planner?

How does this work:
2004, WA Developments International, a holding company that is jointly owned by Andrew Tinkler and William Stobart, acquires Eddie Stobart Limited.

2008, The successful rail infrastructure engineering business, WA Developments, is
acquired by the Group.

stobartgroup.co.uk/about-us/our-history/

So in 2004 WA developments buys ESL, then in 2008 ESL buys WA Developments■■?

the burning question i would be asking if it is that good of a deal then why haven’t all there own drivers taken this offer up?

And/Or the spare disposable income to pay for the course to gain the CPC qualificiation, which can be upwards and beyond a £1000ish depending on where you go. Or indeed the confidence in their own ability to pay and pass the course.

Fastrantiger:
To be self-employed you need to work for more than one company, this is from Directgov;

You are probably self-employed if you:
-run your own business and take responsibility for its success or failure
-have several customers at the same time
-can decide how, when and where you do your work
-are free to hire other people to do the work for you or help you at your own expense
-provide the main items of equipment to do your work

You are probably employed if you:
-have to do the work yourself
-work for one person at a time, who is in charge of what you do and takes on the risks of the business
-can be told how, when and where you do your work
-have to work a set amount of hours
-are paid a regular amount according to the hours you work, and get paid for working overtime - even if you do casual or part-time work, you can still be employed

Tiger.

And all that is fine for self employed tax status, however Ms Bell and her partners in crime have other criteria they work with. Whoever operates the lorry has to hold an operators licence, whether you subcontract to Tarmac, Stobarts or Santa Claus.

Part of that 12k has to be available to prove you are fit to operate a lorry

It all seems to be going round in circles, this thread !! Until Mo and Ady12000 take the “plunge” the “ponsi” scheme wont get off the ground will it.As far as the “ESL property deal” goes,no wonder one or two of the larger shareholders got exited about the “portfolio” being stuffed back into the Group when you look closely at how it unravelled. When they went public the “chuckle brothers” took the property side into their personal ownership thought it was a goldmine !) then when the ■■■■ hit the fan in the last financial crisis,Oh No, they landed into the “negative equity” trap !! No problem there then, just stuff it back into PLC group!! No wonder the politicians are wanting to legislate against PLC boards taking the ■■■■ out of their long suffering shareholders and if a suitable example is needed look no further !! Nice work if you can get !! Then fire a large % of your workforce and simultaneously announce a major sponsership of a national ball game,if I were still an employer I wouldn’t have the “brass neck” or neither would I insult my workforce by pulling a stroke like this, but then this is modern buisness,no conscience or morality any longer. So even though I have no axe to grind either way for “fast eddie” all I can say is that whatever befalls them in future either operational or financial will be richly deserved whatever it is. Bewick.

Jeeeasssussss! :open_mouth:

What have I started??

A topic on what it might REALLY mean to work as an O/D for stobbies.

But I’m liking seeing people rip the ad that was in the Sun, and to ask some good questions…

Like, WHY don’t some of stobbies own drivers (being paid off or not), taking up the offer??

Own driver - own loads from where ever.

Or how about… You find your own loads/work, then stobbies (be it logistics or transport etc) comes along and UNDERCUTS you like a ‘competitor’ expanding himself even more! :open_mouth:

He’s got so many departments, to make money I wouldn’t be surprised that he ‘buys and sells’ between them.

all i can say is good luck to anybody mad enough to try it

Look the scheme is ghiss no one stupid enough ( i hope) to say there in without knowing if you can back load for another firm and if you never own the truck you drive then you are NOT a owner driver simple

You have no axe to grind because you’ve worn the axe away

apparently no one knows the rates or the full terms yet, so until someone does…

The more I read the more I dont like it ,I dont think they are genuine ODs

Maybe they are only cut out to be employed drivers. From the ones I’ve met when on agency there that would be the case

nearly there:
Look the scheme is ghiss no one stupid enough ( i hope) to say there in without knowing if you can back load for another firm and if you never own the truck you drive then you are NOT a owner driver simple

How many firms that lease there trucks own them

None!!

Completely irrelevant point made by nearly there.

Stevie

remember mr stobart is a buisness man and he aint stupid , if work goes slack he is still going to want his monthly payment for HIS truck from you .

I would think that the reason that stobby drivers haven’t taken up the offer is that they haven’t got thier operators CPC yet, and it will be April before they know their results if they took it, and another 3 months for a resit.
If you want to be a O/D you can use your own truck and be a real subbie as it says at the bottom of advert on their website
Maximise YOUR earning potential by operating your own Tractor Unit under the Eddie Stobart brand
Could be a nice little opportunity for an O/D to get a bit of extra work

And that will be the main problem for a lot of people who go into this. They won’t have a clue about running a vehicle or the costs involved and the guesstimates will be their downfall.

like when we were 19 yrs old and bought our first house, all starry eyed, everyone one saying itll all end in tears, all his money goes on drink, football and women, but we got by,house now payed for :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

What a load of “cobblers” comparing house buying/property inflation over the past 30 or 40 years to haulage rates and vehicle operating costs over the same period.Property prices have ,over that time, climbed relentlessly albeit with periodic flat spots.Whereas haulage rates have been reduced in real terms over the same period with “the fast eddie organisation” being one the main exponents, and causes, of the downward trend.I would hazzard a guess that some,or most,of the rates we were running for in the early 90’s would be probably better than a lot of rates to-day ! And they will definietly be a lot better if to-days rates were “deflated” back for 20 years.Bewick.
