Well travelling south on the a1 @ 5.30 this morning I honestly thought of this thread when I saw a stobbies motor on the in slip to markham moor at a very strange leaning angle. I wondered what the haters would say!

I saw 2 stobarts truck doing a trailer change on a slip road to a motorway service area A1 sb near wakefield tues afternoon when it was chucking it down with snow, guessing they didnt want to get stuck in the truck park?!  , the HATOs even coned off the slip road for them, how nice.

Isn’t that using common nouse rather than blindly plunder in to a snow covered park with no chance of escape?

I remember many years ago at Woodall Services. A driver had ploughed into the service area, hit a 2’ high kerb near the pumps and knocked the front axle of his Atki Borderer. I bet he was more careful after that

mmmm, after reading this thread i thought i would say my piece… i worked for stobarts in the early 90s on the drag fleet out of carlisle, chris brown ? was the man i answered too.
compaired to the likes of curries of dumfries , jock hyslop(annandale) from beatock they treated me v well ,no scrap wagons ,ran legal (95+%) of time .i didnt mind the uniform ,saved my clothes from getting dirty ,still have friends from them days still at stobarts.
i remember when eddie gave a new car to one of his first drivers when he retired (he drove the fl volvo drawbar) .i had never seen a boss treat his workers so well… best firm i drove in uk and i drove for 26yrs in sw scotland for some chancers! :stuck_out_tongue: , before moving to canada…

seems most peeps who have had a go at stobbies have never worked for them. i havn’t either but dont know what they are like to work for so cant in all honesty say good or bad about that side of job.
as for kit well we all know it looks tidy
uniform well thast just one of many different style on the job scene
as for the drivers ,in every firm theres good and bad so no diference there then.
does seem to be a trend to have a go or is it just a tad jealousy cos some drivers dont/cant/wont work there
as long as money/legal and kit suits then no worries
leave em alone they just doing a job like u an me :unamused:

Erm yes. Why would someone be jealous of a firm that puts people out of business, dresses drivers up like elves for £7 an hour and has a fanbase of creatures from jim hensons creature shop?

:open_mouth: I had to read that bit twice. I thought you’d put " dresses drivers up like elvis". I had visions of 'em sauntering across the truck park in a white suit covered in rhinestones, sporting a pair of sideburns and wearing shades!.

Lmao, im sure the stobart drivers would wear anything as long as its got the stobart label.

i work for stobarts and your comments are way off the mark infact they sound more adolesent, there are probably a couple of thousand drivers who work for stobbies and though many of them are knobs alot of them are just normal people who drive a green truck, how thick can some people be to think that we get a kick out of working for stobarts i have my reasons and arguments for the negatives about stobarts but thats because i work for them, and stobarts use owner drivers and pay them on time.

most people who knock stobbies have probably no other reason to do so other than they may of heared a rumour or tale in a drivers rest room other than that most of the comments are empty of any substance, the only people or drivers who can actually comment are those who have worked, do work or have suffered in some way because of stobarts, like it or not for the near future there will be alot more of them and if your ever out of work am sure you will be on here asking what the assessments like.
on a positive note though if there is any a good time for newbie drivers or people who are looking for work try stobbies they take on newbies and old alike, though management and planners can annoy you somewhat. but if you need a job then give it a go dont listen to the tripe go judge for yourself its not for everyone my advice would be to work for an agency out of stobarts you get paid a better rate.

duh nothing wrong just stobart scum get preferential treatment where ever they go…

My mate works for Stobarts. He’s working Xmas Eve, Xmas Day (finishes early hours) and Boxing Day !!! (Thats why I’ll never want to work there).

My mate works for Stobarts. He’s working Xmas Eve, Xmas Day (finishes early hours) and Boxing Day !!! By choice I presume

My mate works out of Goole, he reckons it is the best job he has had so far, home every night, good tackle and left well alone if you do your job… He even gets to wear their clothes and can save his own for the pub.

Horses for courses I suppose

but thats what todays transport is all about. 24/7/365 and **** the drivers social life :frowning:
if you are not prepared to do it then don’t drive a truck, how many nurses/ambulance/fire/police/a and e etc plus those people who do “care” for a family member everyday complain.
no one wants to work over Christmas and no one should but needs must in certain jobs but i do agree in transport “is it really that urgent that it cant wait 2 days”
seem 24/7/365 is ok for drivers as long as office staff are at home with family  then when ■■■■ hits the fan you cant get hold of anyone so you make a on spot decision and later get a warning for thinkng yourself. :imp:

You don’t have to give up driving if you don’t want to do that, plenty of drivers at our place do 8 hours or less a day and only Monday to Friday.

Not everyone, I am an atheist so Christmas is nothing to me and I don’t celebrate it. It’s just another day to me, Saturday this year, and if I can work I will as there isn’t any football on, which is the only thing which stops me working particular days.

For about eight years while working for a cargo airline the only days I got off over the christmas period was christmas day the same went for some of the other lads,But the differnce between what we got paid compared to stobart is huge for instance our hourly rate is nearly double what stobart pays any bank holiday was double time plus day in leiu and 30% night shift allowance.
In Ireland at present he pays a so called professional driver 9e an hour a kid working in a burger joint gets paid more than that,Ask yourself the question who has more responsibilty a person driving a 40t truck or a person flipping burgers. :astonished:

Anyone working in Belgium this year is lucky, they will get the whole weekend off, normally it is just one day :stuck_out_tongue:

Each has different responsibilities, so not really comparable, but each is capable of killing someone.

and how much is our country paying your country??

ok you get 9e an hour, but what about all the extra wee bonuses stobarts pays on top? burger boy doesn’t get that

and you only need one card per day!

Our firm shuts down 23rd December and the wheels dont turn again until 5th Jan. I’ll use some hol’ entitlements so I’ll end up with a good 2weeks off with only a few days off…Oh and a late finish for me is 4pm (no Saturdays or nights)

Just look at some of the Halal Kebab vans in Oxford to back that statement up…

carnt see him working xmas day mate or boxing day as for me i am off from the 17th till the 2nd so its down to choice i booked it off so he probably didnt unless he works on the tesco side of things which is completely different and am sure the drivers were all told about supermarket xmas work ie. its none stop delivery’s
i worked last xmas eve but was my choice and am sure its not just stobarts that work xmas.

the facts are they pay a rate and thats it, no one forces anyone to work for stobarts its a choice because of the long hours involved they keep the wage as low as they can, alot of time is spent waiting so its not a comparison to flipping burgers that analogy gets banded about all the time and its not accurate at all, i can honestly say i take home 1100 average every 2 weeks though the job isnt perfect i can at least enjoy xmas no worries over buying presents and stressing just 2 weeks off forget work and have a family xmas and compared to last xmas its a blessing.

Say again your country is paying my country :open_mouth: for what? if you mean the ECB/IMF so called bail out you should look closer to your own shores were in the 70s the UK needed some help,All right my analogy of the person working in the burger joint might be wrong considering the HACCP laws etc.
So replace that person with someone working in a shop/store room and compare the responsibilty with them compared to a Class 1 so called professional driver,For instance the driver is in a unit&trailer worth the guts of £150k or more has dead lines to meet regarding delivery&collection of produce has to make sure that he is legal regarding driver hours etc getting into tight places etc driving in the weather conditions we have just experienced.
Look stobart is not the only one taking adavantage of drivers we have our own home grown companies like nolan o leary and breens who pay 80e regardless if you work your 15hr spread also you could be stuck in the UK or europe waiting on a back load without getting paid.

and how much is our country paying your country??

Our country loaning Ireland £5 billion at 6% interest! How is that giving?

And thats just to cover the 80 billion wreckless lending from UK banks

Stick to what you know pal and leave the hard stuff to the rest of us
