Who thought it a good idea to get the firemen to help out then ,it was not that long ago

I am not knocking the drivers at Stobbies, but did anyone the notice the driver leaning on the steering wheel while filming for the 6 part Tv documentary. Can anyone say if that was William`s own black helicopter or a visiting one to the site. Its my own opinion, but with a film crew around, there was a lot of drivers smoking while at their loading/offloading sites.(Not knocking smokers, either.),and why did the commentator have to mention that William could not read and write in one of the TV documentaries.Thought the lady driver with the pink Golf car did ace when reversing on a blind spot to get in to a factory, well done on her.
You may be shocked to learn that DHL drivers lean on the steering wheel and go for a ■■■ at drops too. At least they are not smoking in the vehicles. You’ll maybe find that many drivers do these things.
Its because of stobarts that i got away from driving full time, worked out the Carlisle depot for 8 year with the last 3 yr driving a day cab scania drag, ‘go on the drags or take redundancy’ was the phone call on a friday evening. So faced with handing over the keys for an Man 410bhp doing at most 400k’s a day for a day cab wind catcher covering upto 770k’s a day i was well hacked off…They would rather spend £10’000 fixing a wagon up than telling their customer they cant get the load as its to windy for the vehicle to travel in…I can assure you its not fun coming over shap at 25 mph watching your rev counter go round the clock as the drive wheels lift of the ground due to the high winds!!
Twice i run out of time at Scotch Corner after using up a 15 hour spread, their answer after repeated phonecalls that running out of time was fast approaching ‘oh we have’nt got anyone spare to pick you up’…So lets just say i made it home without to much of a delay ‘ahem’…also has to do the same from Preston…
Can any of you’s remember when stobarts had an office at Haydock right beside the motorway? that was meant to be their head office, got staffed bye alot of office staff from Carlisle, their choice was move to Haydock and do a four on four of shift pattern or take redundancy ‘oh bye the way boys make your own way to Haydock’!!!
Apologies for this being my first post hoped it would have been a more constructive one…
P.s Rob beatty was depot manager at Stamford way back, then he had his own truck on for Stobart, pretty sure he ended up with 2/3 wagons in his own colours…
400k a day? wowee. one of the stobart old school who like to tell us newboys that ‘in the old’ days it was great. tip then park up till out of time. isotrack ruined the job.
lazy drivers who don’t work ruin more than isotrack ever will.
so you were out of time but still made it home? who’s the fool.
I thought “Haydock” was the old company during the time of Mr Durose and Edward. Didnt WA move it back to Carlisle before opening Warrington and Stoke

Was that the International Kfor office?
Yeah it may well of been. They have lost a lot of depots that no ones seemed to mention, At one time they operated out of almost all of DiRFT, doing Tescos work and other stuff and lost it all!! The Tesocs stuff was due to Tescos themselves streamlining their own operations which then went back to Stobarts (in part) and the other stuff like El Doria contract (tinned good from abroad for just about every supermarket) was lost to Hanbury Davies and then City Transport who de vanned it ,stored it and distributed it from Alconbury. It goes now to be de vanned all over the show !!
Yeah Haydock was back in the old regime before Wa developments took over, not sure of the year it opened 2003/04 but it was just an office within an office block did’nt stay open long as they moved all the Carlisle planners back to Carlisle dont know what happened to the other planners/office boys…
think it makes you a better driver■■? so they say■■? did a bit early 1990/91. on bottles out of wrexham/ draw/bar. if it makes ya boat float crack on. for me no thanks!!!
Haydock was the ruin of the job,I was planned by a chap named Tom who moved to haydock under the conditions as said above and the job just went to crap overnight. Unfortunately the company took a few ■■■■■■■■■ on at that time and when they moved to Appleton, they went with them. I don’t know what it is with them there but they are,on the whole the most ignorant, arrogant up their own arses people I’ve ever had the misfortune to encounter. I avoid the place like the plague!!! Unfortunately one seems to have moved down to my depot and is trying to tell me to use cruise control and green band more whilst I’m driving in snow and ice!!! Typical Appleton office idiot, not even got a class one either and he’s telling me how to drive in snow and ice. I see fuse is on about these firemen again, what gives with him and men with shiny helmets??
I enjoyed my time working for both Stobarts & Dentressangle.
Worked for Stobarts in the early 90’s, Great days, except for the shirt & tie…
Having a good reference from John Rounthwaite (Stobarts), got me the job at Dentressangle.
Your always going get drivers that are knobs no matter what company you work for,Stobart is after moving into Ireland and more or less has tried to get old Tesco employed drivers earning a decent wage down to the min wage here.
He has ignored the results of the Labour court regarding the drivers contracts etc the planners are [zb] useless and when I did my driving assesment with them last year the driving assesor told me that they wont hire eastern europeans,Well he must be stuck for drivers as the place is full of them now hopefully they will right off a few units and trailers as they do here with other well known Irish hauliers
Law of averages
Say 1 in 5 drivers are a nob, company employs 10 drivers 2 are nobs, company employs 3000 drivers thats 600 nobs.
Another point all these owner drivers who got put out of business by Stobarts, how do you think they got there work by going into a factory and saying I will do your haulage for twice as much as your current haulier. No disrespect ment to anyone but maybe they didnt have the business brain of Eddy, saying springs to mind never put all your eggs in one basket.
The way I see it Stobarts provide alot of jobs to alot of drivers, just like any where you work some drivers will be nobs but that is always a personal decision. You may think I am a nob but another 10 people might think you are a nob.
At the end of the day this industry is cut throat if I was in business and could under cut someone and still make a profit any one that says they wouldnt should never go into business or they are just a liar
Apologies happysack, long day
big brummie macca…check your maths!

Rob was TM at Carlisle before that, the tm at Stamford was a old guy called Reg, who actually started the Depot at Grantham (not woolfox) at the A1/ A52 junction…From what I can gather he is still around with his own Trucks.

Why only target Stobarts ■■?
DHL, Wincanton, Norbert etc, are doing the exact same regarding rate cuts and job loses. The driving game as we used to know it has has gone now.
You either adapt, or move on outwith.
If TDG had kept the Tesco work, you would be working for ND now

in hindsight you were probably right with your first answer. dam me for being pedantic.
Well travelling south on the a1 @ 5.30 this morning I honestly thought of this thread when I saw a stobbies motor on the in slip to markham moor at a very strange leaning angle. I wondered what the haters would say!

I saw 2 stobarts truck doing a trailer change on a slip road to a motorway service area A1 sb near wakefield tues afternoon when it was chucking it down with snow, guessing they didnt want to get stuck in the truck park?!
, the HATOs even coned off the slip road for them, how nice.
