Stobarts ......... ffs

jeeeeesh this is going to decend into " my dads bigger than your’s "… where’s “crispyknob” when you need him ■■ …

just started this week on regular nights for stobbarts through agency on the tesco job, ok the rates are slightly lower than you might get elsewhere but theres no problem booking 12 hours plus and very very little push from the office, i’ve took it on because theres work right through christmas (off xmax eve & xmas day) and more importantly into the new year which come january could be worth a lot when no one else has got any work.

brace yourself to be kept waiting at the tesco branches , i’v spoke to several stobbie blokes over the recent few weeks and its not unusual to be kept waiting over an hour just to get in , and not always an obvious reason … you will be pulling your hair out at times …

one thing you will be come aware of is that tesco’s are shocking , and mostly the back doors are run by arrogant 19 yr olds that need a good smack … good luck.

it’s all depot to depot trunks for me, still plenty of waiting about but your getting paid to wait about.

trunking is easy for them mate usually always dbl deckers and you get paid by the hour so trust me trunking is not usually a rushed business if its a live tip you will drop your trailer wait a good four hours for them while you relax with your laptop

Yep, thats what they tell you & they may even leave you to do interdepot trunks for a week or two…Wont be long before they tell you they are short of blokes & youve got to do store deliveries, two loads per night with 6 or 7 drops on each, been there, done that!

Fair play though Paul, if you like it & it suits you then crack on with it & earn yourself some almost decent dosh.
I had a fair stint at their Stoke depot last year…NEVER AGAIN.
Bunch of wasters & kiss arses in my honest opinion, planners, well my kids could plan a run better than that lot but each to their own, some like it & some dont, I didnt.

I’m into my 6th year at Stoke, done nights, a stint at Tesco Middleditch (including some Shunting) and now am Tramping tuesday - saturday, days.

The job varies greatly, SCA Timbar around London, Tesco Trunks, Timber deliveries, P&G Stockloads it’s rarely the same.

Decent kit, legality comes before delivery deadlines, H&S is taken VERY seriously.

Paid by the hour and as many hours as you want!

Sure, some of the staff and drivers can be muppets, hey, I’m not immune from that myself.

Each shift can differ as to the staff you encounter - as it will with any large organisation - once you appreciate the size Stobart is now, the earlier percentages in this thread start to make sence.

Alas, in my 14 years as an HGV driver, I’m yet to find a large employer to be any different! You’ll always get good & bad.

Work for them and they work for you in my experience. When the **** hits the fan, they have backed me up in the past. Decent kit, tbh easy work (Hell! I’ve done harder for alot less!) and I expect to be ■■■■■■ about, held up and generally despised by all who encounter me…

I’m a Truck Driver !

Coddy:
Stobarts supply top notch uniform, from beanie hats and baseball caps winter coats, fleeces, decent shirts, etc etc etc, not many Co’s now a days supply the amount that Stobarts do.

Having watched the TV programmes the one thing that comes to mind is PROFFESIONAL!!! Compared to my current employer,to the point where i went on there web site looking for a job!!!

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: ,sending a truck 4.5 hrs empty to pick a load up,then 4.5 hrs back empty because there isnt a load there isnt very proffesiona[espicially with weather conditions as they are]l,picking up the phone and ringing, checking p.c before driver leaves is :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: ,but wouldnt get on t.v i guess, image and all that

so wasted trips never happen ■■
thats just not the case , it happens everywhere , i’ve had 2 wasted trips in the last month , grand total of ( almost ) 6 hrs driving for no reason it happens…
at the end of the day we dont pay the fuel bills the owners do , but they also pay your wages for the wasted trips , easy money in that case …

and no i dont and never have worked for stobarts , but recently i’ve chatted to a few and they are the same as all of us , flesh and blood with kids to feed , i hav’nt ever seen anything any different than anyone else or anywhere else . but i suppose i’m the type to judge as i find and not what i’m told .

you cant judge a company cos they make drivers wear green shirts nor can you think that in some way they get special treatment . just recently on this very forum thier seemed to be a suggestion that they get some kind of relaxation of speedlimiter rules .
jeeeeesh , like i asked in my o.p what is the problem ■■ as yet no answer that makes sense …

Good point bowser, drive to B, return to A, empty or not, they still get paid, they keep their hands clean and those nice overalls pristine, just like Downton, Wincanton, KJ, DHL and Jack Richards

well it zb shouldnt,9 hrs driving to find out there isnt a load there and never was,how hard is it to pick up a phone and ring the customer, takes 2 mins, not 9 hrs, there screaming about fuel bill,no trucks in yard, then they send a truck up and down the country for the night to pick up a load that didnt exist,i couldnt give a ■■■■ who else does it, its zb crap in this day and age,it smack of joe bloggs [cowboy] transport, not a logistics giant, but what do i know

maybe you should run the company then seeing as its had such a bad effect on you , i’m wondering how you sleep at night …

but how long will you get paid for if you carry on like this, not long id guess, that truck could and should of been making money, not chucking it away, but lets sit back take the money then roar are eyes out when it all commes crashing down,f.f.s wheelnut,it would of took a poxy 2 min phone call from office to sort job,how hard is that, what did a.tinkler say, every empty mile grieves me[words to that effect],i bet he was hanging from the nearest tree after that run :exclamation: :exclamation:

If it’s like our place our head shipper “dons his awkward hat” if you dare do his job for him and make a suggestion of some sort…Even if I’m delivering nextdoor to a muckshift we’re doing, unless the office tell me, I just carry on with my own job…simples.
