so if u get a fine for a late delivery who pays the fine if its late because u sat in a yard for a few hrs waitin for someone else to bring it up from the place its been picked up from
These are the pitfalls of being self employed. When I imported MX bikes if nobody rang up to buy them we would of been stuffed…
Luckily they did… but it doesn’t mean I would want to be self employed again.

In such a case one would use a little intelligence, advise chaos control and get the desk jockey to rebook the delivery slot allowing you plenty of time to get there.
Its up to you to accept or not as you wish before you take the agreement on, whatever financial compensation ESL may or may not have in the contract to cover waiting time.

Do you know Adrian Brown?
We had a customer from the Humberside area called Ady. His bike broke down on the Humber mud flats with the tide coming in.
He got the piston to TDC chained the bike to a jetty and climbed to safety. He then went back and dragged it home when the tide went out… Proper mon!
We rebuilt his bike for him and fixed his electric start. I hope that’s him after typing all that. Haha
My friends still run that bike business so I would rather not go into too much detail in case something is taken out of context and causes them trouble.
All I can say that it’s a hellava lot easier to be paid to play on TNUK on a loading bay than having the responsibility of knowing that every decision and telephone call will have a direct influence on wether you and your mates get paid every Friday.
Ady I think it’s very sad that you are forever waving your pay slips around on here in silly bets of how much you earn. < ----- Not forgetting the stupid hours you do to achieve it. I have commented before that you work around 20-25 hours a week more than me for an extra £150.You can keep it hehe.
I get to go home everyday too after about 9-10 hours work, if that sometimes lol…
I leave chasing pound notes to those who want to break their backs to earn it or string out jobs in a taking the urinal fashion to do so.
Now you are waving around some inheritance that you have as though anyone is going to be jealous of it. I think it’s sadder still that you have the brass neck to wave that around, if it even exists, off the back of a family members possible suffering and eventual death.Shameful in fact.
Granted some of the stuff you are posting is funny , but it’s not laughing with you, it’s laughing at you. Personally I think you have been sniffing your own ■■■■■ matter for too long.
It crossed my mind today that if the ESL scheme gets off the ground. The full time trampers who decline to do it will be lucky to get any overtime or regular nights out.
Why would ESL cough up for all the extra expense of sending an employed driver when they can get an o/d to do it for the mileage?
fuse:
YOU are not an owner driver, I could spend time explaining but I can not be a,d
Okay then, Self Employed Driver…
If you look at it from the outside like me this scheme looks like a cost saving excercise by ESL. Thats not to say that some drivers might do very well from it.
Perhaps from the exasperation in your post the scheme is a massive ‘Dragons Den’ experiment to put fifty mini haulage companies on the road? You tell me…
If you read any of my other posts about this subject you might be able to tell that I’m really quite curious about this scheme and I’m not just out to take the ■■■■ out of ESL like most people do.
As far as we heard at the last reps meeting, there was only one driver interested in doing it.
One driver out of 2500!,i dont think its going to get off the ground to be honest.
The only thing to get off the ground at the moment are these new Scanias which keep catching fire!!
Oh bugger!!,shouldnt have said that as “fuse” will be off again on about the firemen!!!

For sure the rates are important Rob but I would be just as interested in having a company with a crystal clear AAA credit history.
No way could you get rich with ESL but it is in their intrest to pay you enough to keep the show on the road.
I do think it would be a good screw out of ESL if you’re switched on and I stand by my statement.

I don’t. At all. This blurb Malc has posted is basically the honeytrap to get you in. I’ll bet you any money you like that in the actual contract they’ll have you over a barrel at all times with “we reserve the right to” clauses, penalties, fines, exclusions, yada yada all over it. In fact I’ll bet you that money right now without even seeing the contract, that’s how sure I am. You’ve got to look at it from their point of view - if it’s such a “good screw” why are we/they doing it themselves? Tells you all you need to know. You don’t get owt for nowt in business.
I don’t think you are really reading my posts Rob.
The ESL o/d scheme is simply a device for ESL to have cheap and pliant trampers. It’s obvious to anyone even a outsider like me (I have never worked for ESL and I’ve only watched one of their programmes on TV).
The thing is Rob if I ran ESL I would exactly the same. All I’m trying to do is put forward a lateral view.
ESL will have to hold the hands of their new start ups because it is in their intrests for them to survive. That will mean making sure the bills get paid on time, hence the AAA credit history.
As long as you pay your bills your credit history is yours not ESLs. If you have a firm in three to five years from now with a good credit history the oppertunities outside transport could be fantastic.
Im surprised you can’t see it yourself Rob?

I’m not disputing that it isn’t a good craic for STOBART and in fact I never said to the contrary, but it most definitely isn’t and won’t be a good craic for the OD.
I agree it’s in STOBART’s interests for them to survive, but it’s also in MARITIME’s interest for ODs to survive and I don’t see them making much of an effort so what makes you think Stobart will be any different?
I’ve really tried hard to take your closing comments seriously but I’m finding them pretty laughable, especially your last sentence. I’ve got a very good credit history but I didn’t need to be one of Stobart’s 80-hour-a-week lap dogs for 3 years to get it.
I enquired about it and basically you need the truck to be running all the time to make it pay.I asked for more info but wasn’t privy to that unless I actualy applied.

If you want to be self employed, sign on at an agency, then you can pick and choose your jobs, you certainly cannot with the blurb I posted. Hey you may even get a shift on a new owner driven Stobart motor through the agency!

I’ll stay as I am thanks
Yep I asked for info too and hit a brick wall - why would you even think about going into business with a company that cannot provide basic information?
I makes you wonder what kind of response you would get if you had a real problem

A Labotomy is required to take up this scheme!
A few weeks ago on dragons den they talked about franchises in great detail, to me this sounds like a franchise. Well peter jones sort of destroyed the guy who was doing the pitch because all the costs etc minus the revenue only equalled 28k to the franchisee. And he said the franchisee would be better of in full time job = no headaches, no sleepness nights.
All i hope is people take a great deal of thought and time before forking out for it - you could ■■■■ away your life savings or pension fund trying to make it work.

Rob I had in mind the Companies credit history not my own personal credit history. I’m sorry that I didn’t make that clear. I’ll try not to type posts with jam on my fingers in future…

Alex, the same answer also applies to my company credit history as well for that matter.
