Stobart driver on Wigton to Workington road

Hiya gingo mate has it took you 6 months to find something that you can use against me, after all the stick you gave me last time :open_mouth: I admire your patience…well done bud. :unamused:

Right a mixed bag of replies here chaps.

Firstly, I’ll adress my mate’s latest pop.
Yeh I did pass a stream of cars way back last winter, those who had a go at me (some more vicious thwn others  ) were entitled to their opinion, but others also said they would have done the same thing the same way in THOSE PARTICULAR conditions…nobody on here has said they would have done the same on this occasion…ie. used their truck as a weapon to purposely and entirely to antagonise another road user, as this Stobart driver did.

As for the slush thing and me, if the occasion happened again and I weighed up the conditions and they were the same as last time, I would do the same again, if that is detremental to what others consider safe…you are entitled to that opinion.
If I deemed it dangerous on said occasion, where the conditions were much worse than last time…, I would act different on that day and occasion. (Hope that puts it to bed,… although I suspect not with at least one on here :unamused: )

As for my daughter, yeh… she could have undercooked her account, she aint perfect, I have asked her today by exaggerating to her, that I could get a driver into serious trouble here if she is giving me a dodgy account of events.
Her words were
ā€˜ā€˜Dad, when I used to come with you I remembered what you used to say about car drivers having no respect or judgement for trucks, I did not pull out too soon on that truck’’

Now I realise her judgement of ā€˜too soon’ and ours could be different, I am also aware she can twist me around her little finger, but I do tend to believe her on this occasion.

If this does come to, as someone suggested, camera footage proof that she was in the wrong, make no mistake…I will be the first to admit it on here, AND to apologise to that driver and to Stobarts…end of.

To Happysack… no mate she did not notice trailer type, fleet no or reg, but that was the only Stobby motor on that road stretch at that time.

To Cally dream, thanks for complementing me as ā€˜The world’s best driver’ I did not realise that you loved me.

To the monkey man, just what I would expect, but still love you

Latest developments are (if you aint bored yet :unamused: ) I was still a bit ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  this morning, all I could picture was my little girl trapped under a ā– ā– ā– ā–  great green truck, so I rang that Warrington no. EagerB mentioned last night.
The ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  the phone was very polite, she asked if my daughter was ok, and apologised on behalf of Stobarts.
She asked about fleet no and reg, I told her no, but that I knew Isotracks could be retro tracked.
I stressed that I was certainly no anti truck type, and that it was totally against my nature to report anybody in any way especially a fellow driver, but on this occasion I felt it was warranted.
I also told her that I would not like to see said driver lose his job, but only to be disciplined in whatever way would stop him doing this to any body else.

Tbh part of me did feel bad doing the 'grassing thing’as it is totally out of character, but then I thought… ā– ā– ā– ā–  it, he asked for it imo.

I have heard nothing back today, and am under no illusions that maybe I was just being blagged and fobbed off, but I will wait and see.

Sorry if I have bored everybody ā– ā– ā– ā–  less with this …but you did ask questions.
As I said I nearly deleted it until EagerB replied, and I will keep posted on the next thrilling installment. :unamused:

tailgating cars should be a big NO NO, if something goes wrong the people in the car don’t stand a chance.

My mates wife had a problem with a truck last year, her car had went into limp mode and would only do 45-50, heading east towards Hawick on the A7 some tw4t in an artic had been right up her chuff, she let him past at the fist opportunity but she had been very intimidated and frightened for a couple of miles - she was furious, phoned me up as soon as she got home and told me off, like it had something to do with me :unamused:

She asked me an interesting question that I didn’t have an answer to; what should she have done? I suggested hazards on and very gradually slowing down to 20 or 30 on the grounds accidents are less serious at slower speeds, but I also see problems with that tactic in it will further inflame the problem - any suggestions ?

and out of curiosity, since I have never driven one of the modern generation of all singing all dancing wagons with state of the art electronics; How does stuff like AEBS cope with driving stupidly close to the vehicle in front at 50+ mph ? does it not have a hairy canary?

To Happysack… no mate she did not notice trailer type, fleet no or reg, but that was the only Stobby motor on that road stretch at that time.

What i was getting at was phoning ā€œeddie stobartā€ won’t help if it was a ā€œstobart biomassā€ wagon. Different companies. Ie we don’t have isotrak, appear on the app etc. Just because they look similar doesn’t mean they are the same.

If it was a wagon from dumfries with curries on it, phoning Currie European wouldn’t help if it was a jj Currie wagon.

What I’m getting at is, maybe you are contacting the wrong company.

robroy:
all I could picture was my little girl trapped under a [zb] great green truck.

I don’t think that’s how Dipper is picturing her! :open_mouth:

And I think there’s more chance of CF working out how to pick up a trailer using air suspension that ES getting back to you mate!

Btw she’s 19 but still my ā€˜ā€˜little girl’’ that is what clouded my eyes bud.

Is she fit ā– ā–

Is she fit ā– ā–

That’ s very amusing mate.
My rule on here is I don’t say anything to a stranger what I would not say to him if I got talking to him in a pub, (even if I have got a bit more front than most but maybe not as much as you eh mate) for instance I wouldn’t ask you if your Mrs would be up for it if I asked her…maybe you should apply the same rules eh bud? :bulb: …just saying like.

In gear/ speak/ brain. :bulb:

Yeh I knew what you meant HS bud, Cheers.

All they are interested in is 4 digit fleet no or reg. You are summoned into the ops office, and the SD card is pulled from your dashcam and you watch the footage on one of the computers in there with one of the afore mentioned helmets.

Don’t forget you can also give the girl’s names which are on the doors and the front of the cab.

I aint happy, my young daughter passed her test 2 days ago.
She has just came in to me in tears saying she pulled out of a junction to join the bypass at Wigton A596 to turn right again further up.
This Stobart truck was approaching at a distance, she saw him and pulled out in good time leaving him plenty of room. (I have told her about giving trucks room because of braking with heavy loads)
The truck came up right behind her just to make a point, and was right on her back bumper at the point of turning right, so much so she panicked and sped up, turned right and nearly hit the high kerb.
Just for good measure he blasted his horns at her unnerving and panicking her even more.
If he had gone over the top of her I would have willinglly done time for murdering the ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– .

I have NEVER been one for reporting or grassing anybody, but I made an exception for this prick, and do not have any qualms about doing so.

I rang Stobart customer sevices the only dept I could get through to, gave the guy the location and time, but told unless I had a fleet or reg no., there was nothing he could do.
I thought they could be retrospectively tracked ffs.

Who knows maybe my daughter pulled out too late who knows, but we are meant to be pro.s ffs in our reactions.

If somebody like me gets ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  with truckers ā– ā– ā– ā–  poor driving, what chance do we have with the general public.
Btw this has nothing to do with my dislike of Stobarts which I have made of secret of on here in the past…but I am [zb] angry.

I’m teaching my eldest daughter to drive right now, how people can do it for a living I don’t know, not the actual driving but the amount of selfish inconsiderate idiots on the road, L plates clearly displayed seems to make no difference I have had to restrain myself from stretching several necks in the space of an hour.

As for Stobarts what can one say that has not already been said, the sorry thing is we all get tarred with the same brush reacting in such a way to an obvious mistake is the mark of the licence holding rank amateur, every time I take to the road almost without exception I will witness stupidity from alleged professionals, its gets worse year on year.

It might be worth her investing in a dashcam, even one of those Duo ones which are albeit expensive, but can give a pretty good recourse if anything like this happened again.

Not sure if it’s the A595 or A596 she was on, but they’re both pretty straight roads so anyone in a truck actually watching the traffic shouldn’t be overly surprised by traffic turning onto and off the road. God help this driver if they ever meet a tractor since they’re not exactly known for doing 56mph or signalling (especially in ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  although I suspect many of those would simply stop and let the prongs on the back totally demolish the Stobbies truck paintwork.

I’d put it down to meeting a grade 1 [beep] who are usually found driving XR3i and similar cars, but somehow occasionally get let lose with 44 tonnes.

Well 4 days now still no e.mail from them as they promised.
Even an acknowledgement of my conversation with the nice young girl would have at least pointed out that they had took some notice.
I am beginning to think that they are maybe not the special elite cut above co. who value their public image and persona as they tell us on the tv programme.
Shock! I am even thinking they are maybe just a run of the mill normal transport co who couldn’t really give a ā– ā– ā– ā–  :open_mouth:

Who would have thought it eh?

What an horrible experience for your young un :frowning:
Just goes to show the so called Stobrat green army are not so professional as they were :open_mouth:
Must be something to do with all the Agency they use nowdays :unamused:

I have read this topic with some interest, also very rarely post on truck net, but…
Firstly we all make mistakes, ime the first to admit that, I feel for the young lady in question,
No matter who was in the rong, the stobart driver should of took in account ,may be HIS daughter\wife??

When my daughter passed hir test, yes she did have ā€œPā€ plates onhir choice not mine, I all so told hir
that a lorry driver would get hit OUT of trouble, rather than see hit in trouble?

I believe there are more good\helpfull drivers than awkward ones,

Personally my self, with respect ,ide put this to bed, its done and dusted,no body was hurt, I know ide feel the same had it been my family member.

Now ile stand by with my tin hat on!!!
Ps yes ime ex HGV driver, started as a mate etc

Well I have put it to bed now, I’ve no plans to pursue it any further, …what’s the point anyway?

I have said all along that it is very out of character for me to shop/report/grass anybody (and anyone who knows me on here will vouch for that)
It’s just an indication of how bloody mad I was at the time when my young daughter came to me upset.
Any Dad of girls will know just what I mean.

Firstly, and mainly, because one of my kids could have been seriously hurt or worse, and the fact that it involved a prick (who I could be associated with if anybody else had seen his agressive display) who is a fellow driver.

I know we all make mistakes as you say (me as much as anyone) but this was not a mistake, he knew exactly what he was doing.
I also know that my daughter could have agitated him, but that would be lack of experience rather than intent.
I do agree with you thst there are still more good and helpful drivers than crap selfish ones.

So just to knock this on the head for the time being (well until gingo uses it against me in 6 months time anyway :unamused:  ) I may have came across as a bit of a drama queen on this thread to some, but believe me I aint. If it had happened to me on the road, instead of my daughter, it would not have been mentioned, and I would just have dealt with it in whatever way appropriate.

Entirely 1 sided version. New drivers don’t have great experience so for all you know she may have pulled out far too late, and never did all she could to get up to speed. She may have been rightly beeped by the lorry driver as a warning for future. You just dont know. So no point in making a thread like this until you knew for sure.

I thought new drivers had to have p plates now? Maybe not.

I’m not condoning the truck driver at all, but I’m sure we have all had cars pull out on us when they shouldn’t, and anyone who says they haven’t gotten angry, given it a blip of the horn or got a bit too close to make a point is lying.

The driver of the truck doesn’t know it’s a 19 year old girl who has just passed her test, all he knows is some car driver pulled out in front of them.

One good thing to come of this is now your daughter will give trucks even more room when pulling out m

Phil 1.79 brain cells has told you Rob.

Better start getting his permission before you post. Don’t know what you were thinking?

I beg your pardon but I most certainly have never got too close ā€œto make a pointā€. Theres a world of difference to a beep of the horn when someone cuts you up to riding on their bumper. Dont lump them both together

I have already said most of that mate, I am fully aware my daughter may have undercooked her version…AS I SAID, I also said it was not just a beep of the horn, it was a continuous intimidating blast.
Are you fully up to press now?? Good.
…btw you don’t drive for stobbys do you and make a habit of …quote ’ giving warnings for the future’ by using your truck as a weapon.
You just don’t read things , so no point in you answering a thread like this until you read it properly for sure. :bulb:
