If you click the link in my signature or this (Forum sponser logo) it will lead you to an index where you can access a lot more info which may be of use to you

To book any LGV training I suggest the trainee-to-be, visits the training school, meets the head person(s) and has a quick look at the truck BEFORE parting with any money.
Sounds like it’s too late for that :exclamation: :exclamation:

Using the site Search facility and putting the words TRAINING AND WHERE you wish to train may turn up some recommendations.

There is a very large thread in the newbies forum called Qualits/Sterling and it concludes that the management and the instructors are two completely seperate issues.

The downside, apart from the management, is that they often use undersized LGV rigids (13 to 15 tonnes) instead of the full sized 17 or 18 tonners and they then put a DRAG trailer on the back for the C+E which, as most on here have stated, is totally different to an artic.

You will find that if it is a W&D that you do for C+E then you are advised (by me and others on here) to get a day or so (more money) on an artic.

Dont know about a" training centre" but there used to be one Sterling training vehicle parked in the DHL/Exel yard in Smoke Lane in Avonmouth when I worked out of there a couple of years ago, whether its still there or not I dont know. Why Sterling though ? there are plenty of good training schools in the Bristol area that won’t try to rip you off in the same way that Sterling do.
Read some of the posts on here about Sterling (there are plenty of them !) and you may change your mind if you were thinking about doing your training with them !

Too late :exclamation: - look up 3 posts

I see where your coming from Rog, but I was trying to reiterate a point to a guy who seems determined to train with Sterling no matter what !!

sorry MWJG, I did not realise that there was a ‘get out’ clause where he can get his money back

I used Lanes in Avonmouth to do my Class 2 and Class 1.

One guy there not sure of his name, comes over as a down to earth trucky and says it like it is…I prefer this method…if I did owt wrong trust me I knew it…but you dont forget.

Try not to get the guy that looks after trucks though…hes too interested in stopping for tea all the time…I paid to learn to drive not drink.

Trucks were of good standard…try them…

Hope all goes well

PS

Theres 1 roundabout in Bristol not sure which 1…but instructor and examiner took me to it on both Class 1 +2…block the roundabout off from whatever direction you come to it…wish I could tell you which one it was…but i got caught out by my instructor…I came over a hill off the common…thru a set of lights on top of hill…roadworks on left…he tells me to turn right…I think great im in correct lane with an artic…oh how wrong i was…duh…lol

again good luck…Bristols fun to learn in…especially with all the totty in the centre…but dont look…lol

I did my class 1 with Lanes too and I can highly recommend them ! I have also quit half way through a class 1 course with Sterling in disgust with the poor quality training I was receiving!
Nomad I reckon the roundabout you are on about sounds like the one by the Old Crow pub in Henbury, its a nightmare !!

Hi HWJG

Looked at Autoroute yep thats the 1…very fast roundabout need eyes everywhere…I travelled down from Gloucester to do traing and test at Bristol. Reckon it was worth it though cuz as I didnt know roads that well…you took more thought over every task…it worked for me anyhow.

Did learn something on me training though…a fire engine came up behind me with blues and 2s…started to move out of his way…the instructor jumped down my throat and said what are you doing…he can wait until you can easily move outa his way…its not a legality that you have to move…something new learned there…even to the point of if at lights with camera on them…you will be done even assissting fire services…therefore now…they wait for me whatever now…not paying fines or points …

what if i did decide to get out ,do you guys think that they would be satisfied with the deposit money or would they definitely come after the rest?and would this be a reasonable decision or should i give it a shot and be a bit open minded about this hussle?

To be honest…i trained with Sterling for a Class C licence, failed, but that was down to my driving errors and nerves…Cant fault the instructors though…the one i was with didnt know what was going on with the desk staff and i presume it was the other way round.

If you have paid already then, get on with it. If you havent paid, think carefully about your options!

As Rog said, the driving and desk people are worlds apart!

thanks guys.ill let u know how it goes…xeers
