I realise that I’m dense (and permanently confused about life on the road nowadays even though I still hold a licence! ) and there must be a logical answer, but why would shunting interfere with driving time? Whenever we were driving off of a public highway (on sites, in quarries loading etc) tacho was always put on other work which didn’t count as driving time and saved a lot of minutes during the working day especially in large premises?

Pete.

It all changed, any on site/off road driving goes towards your 9 hour limit now.

Well the M6 never fails to bugger up on 4h 37 driving now

Right lads I’ve got this little run tomorrow all paid as OT time and half
Start from yard top end of Eastleigh at 5:45am drive to Heinz factory for 12pm pick up then drive Back (15 working day and 10 hour DT to use )
Tom Tom route planer gives me a 9h 20ish total driving time based on me leaving Heinz at 1pm
and 56mph as running up empty
Doable being holiday or do you think like me take my night out gear as any thing can and will happen on the M6 19-15 and around Brum

Hiya mate.
I reckon that because you’ve felt the need to ask on here, that you already know the answer.
I reckon what ?..450 to 500 mile round trip? and in holiday season, and unpredictable winter to boot, I wouldn’t give a [zb] whatever your [zb] Tom Tom says tbh.
No brainer, in fact I’d make sure as hell it ran into 2 days to maximise my earnings on it, you can sure as hell bet your guvnor is getting a decent rate having to pay overtime to do it, so you also should get a decent bite of the cherry on it.
After saying that I never go anywhere without full kit. :bulb:

The boss must be getting a very very good rate because Southampton to Wigan empty is a lot of empty miles!

We were offered some Lidl Southamptons ex Heinz by Wincanton on Sunday, they may have added more money the closer they got to Christmas.

Blimey!! :open_mouth: I would be at least one load a week down nowadays then, you could spent an hour in some quarries finding a sodding loading shovel! Thank’s for putting me right Robroy, and apologies to the OP for dragging it off topic. I think I will stay retired and remain just an ‘armchair driver’, nowadays it appears to be nothing like the job I enjoyed and ‘old timers’ like yourself, Juddian and a few others must find it very frustrating. :unamused:

Pete.

Well thanks to M6 jct 21 to 17 being solid it’s a night out

Looks like it’s gonna be one of Dozy’s manky oranges for dinner tonight while parked up in a pish stained lay-by for 9hrs :open_mouth:

Nope , carrots , spuds and pork in gravy , choice of mince pies or chrimbo cake for afters [emoji6]
Unlike the DoZy one I was a Boy Scout and came prepared just in case [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

When I was on nights at DFDS, we used to run lids up to Heniz at Wigan. Longest I was ever there was 4 hours because they only had one forklift so he’d tip one pallet then would vanish for 20 minutes to load the machines. Did you meet the grumpy South African on the gatehouse?

It’s either one of Tesco’s £1 frozen pork dinners, or some Xmas leftovers :stuck_out_tongue:

He’s saved his self prepared Christmas dinner especially.

Be a bugger to heat through with candles if he ain’t got a microwave!

Ewww…

That right there is enough to convince anyone to give up tramping if that’s on the menu.

Think I’m gonna barf.
