Southampton to Wigan and back tomorrow

Right lads I’ve got this little run tomorrow all paid as OT time and half
Start from yard top end of Eastleigh at 5:45am drive to Heinz factory for 12pm pick up then drive Back (15 working day and 10 hour DT to use )
Tom Tom route planer gives me a 9h 20ish total driving time based on me leaving Heinz at 1pm
and 56mph as running up empty
Doable being holiday or do you think like me take my night out gear as any thing can and will happen on the M6 19-15 and around Brum

Take nightout gear if needed its there if not needed no worries like insurance never know what can happen

And it’s all paid Ot so just more money , if it was say Sheffield down the M1 I wouldn’t be worrying

Take your gear mate. I’ve just done Manchester to Birmingham and it’s busy like a Sunday, every Tom ■■■■ and Harry are out. Probably the same tomorrow

Hiya mate.
I reckon that because you’ve felt the need to ask on here, that you already know the answer.
I reckon what ?..450 to 500 mile round trip? and in holiday season, and unpredictable winter to boot, I wouldn’t give a ■■■■ whatever your ■■■■ Tom Tom says tbh.
No brainer, in fact I’d make sure as hell it ran into 2 days to maximise my earnings on it, you can sure as hell bet your guvnor is getting a decent rate having to pay overtime to do it, so you also should get a decent bite of the cherry on it.
After saying that I never go anywhere without full kit. :bulb:

I’ve summed it up in one  yes I do know that a Night out is very likely , so if I have to spend 30mins loading and taking my gear out so be it even if it don’t get used, because Murphy’s law if I don’t take it I’ll need it :imp:
P/s All ready planning my nights parking place tomorrow

If it says 9h 20m then addon a bit more for optimistic sat nav plus moving round sites etc that’ll be more like 9h 40.

Then addon someone in a £20K wobble box towed by a BMW who discovers it can’t really do 90 up the M6 and that’s your day stuffed.

Am assuming your going A34/M40/ then toll rd up, run up to Wigan be very quiet at that time, coming back, might be different, but flat to the mat up, also depends on Heinz, that I think will be the deciding factor. Just crack on, what will be will be.

Take night out gear. Sods law applies so if you don’t take it you’ll need it and if you do take it you’ll get back.

No toll road for me unless you’re paying

What about A43 off the M40, then M1…A50…M6 at Stoke? You would cut out any chances of hold ups through Birmingham and the smart roadworks around Stafford, might be a bit extra on time on the way up but I’d rather take the time over the gamble, this time of year brings too many drivers not used to motorways etc.
Also, a bit of advice re Wigan and Heinz, I assume you are heading to the NDC and not the factory. Avoid the retail park horrors by coming off at 26, right into Wigan, left at the lights by KFC and follow through the estate (city road and kitt green road) down to a mini roundabout next to the estate and the same on the way out, it’s a bit stop start due to parked cars but it’s not bad and has no restrictions. Holiday sales and two main routes into Wigan meeting outiside a big shopping area turn the area around Robin Park Retail into a nightmare.

Am assuming you mean Orrel interchange, M58, up to lights, turn left, next set right, 500yrds, then Right turn left into factory.

Nope, that will take you to the factory entrance, the DC is on the other side of it, you need to enter via martlands estate itself. I believe you can go past the factory entrance and into the same housing estate up I mentioned but there is no through road to martlands estate, it’s gated off.
In recent years I dropped some construction supplies off to the factory for a sub contractor and was told about the route to take and to get out again. They constantly got drivers looking for the distribution turning up to the gatehouse for the factory because they have correctly followed the black signs for Heinz, it’s the signs that are the problem mate, not really the driver. Check it on google street view and you’ll see what I mean, even what looks like a cut through to the top of Martlands estate is blocked off but it’s not clear on google maps.

A bit odd that you’ll get paid o/t but not be able to use the toll road. I rarely use the toll road now as it’s pretty much defunct, but at certain times it will save you valuable time.

Unless he’s gonna run and max 4:30hrs between breaks he will loose several minutes when he takes a break unless he knows where he can have a break as close to 4:30hrs

I’m probably misreading your reply, but why would he lose several minutes if he didn’t run to close to 4:30hrs between breaks ?
