The idea that North Sea oil can/has made the slightest difference to the economies of England or Scotland when it’s actually just been a millstone in regards to import trade deficits, inflation and taxation.Which isn’t surprising in any type of regime that sees it as just something to produce money from taxes and exports of and not to just use to fuel the domestic economy exclusively by using it all at home.
Or the case for English independence based on the fact that Britain can work with it’s seperate nation states being reinstated,is all part of the argument of the pros and cons of Scottish Independence.IE support for Scottish independence is effectively exactly the same thing as support for English independence because either or means both anyway.Although it seems obvious that any support for the nationalist side of the argument isn’t welcome by the unionist one.Which is nothing new or surprising to me.
You truly are bonkers and seem to have trouble understanding what England is, the gist of you posts seems to suggest that you’re under the impression that Wales, Scotland and NI are part of England. Calling for a return to England being broken up as well is beyond comprehension, it must be a thousand years or more since Wessex, Mercia etc were seperate. What next, a return to witch burning and the like?
It’s meant to be a thread about Scottish independence but seems to have become a thread about your pesonal agenda (what ever the hell that may be). Maybe you just like to go against the grain, I seem to remember you condoning child abusers on the Jimmy Saville thread too, just to provoke a reaction.
You seem to have all the answers, so surely you should have achieved greter things than to be a lorry driver who still lives with his mum…
Hi “Rich T” if I remember correctly carryfast did not like Maggie Thatcher either and passed numerous negative comments on her passing RIP Maggie, bet she could have sorted this sad soul out who appears pretty self opinionated on most subjects and always goes against the grain its the nature of the beast, Buzzer.
Telling the Scottish how good Maggie Thatcher was for the country will do more for the out vote than anything which I’ve said could.

Agree carryfast that ■■■■■■■ should of never been prime minister

Well she was voted in, So a lot of folk wouldn’t agree with you on that score, So its up to the Jocks to vote for what they want As the same as folk voted old Maggie in, With flying colours might I add, Regards Larry.
Everyone has such short memories. They forget the awful mess the country was in. The three day week, the uncollected rubbish and the unburied corpses!
Someone had to sort it out.
My fear is that Scotland will be reduced to something similar once Alex gets in and spends his revenues several times over, defaults on his debt and then wonders why no-one will lend him money to pay the wages of his government workers.
The Russian bear is on the move again and has already made veiled threats regarding his nuclear arsenal.
Is this a good time to me messing about with ours? Putin will laugh all the way to his next land grab.

Be careful what you wish for.
The ‘winter of discontent’ was simply a head on crash between a ‘Labour’ government that had turned Tory and the fact that no one works for nothing or effectively nothing.Or at least they didn’t at that time unlike today after Thatcher’s ‘victory’ over the unions.
To be fair to Callaghan,if that’s possible, the country wasn’t exactly turned into 1960’s America by her either.Which is why we’re now a de industrialised wreck of a place that’s a net importer of energy and manufactured goods having to print money to keep the economy afloat.
As for Putin he is the inevitable result of the test which Russia set for either NATO to pass by staying out of the areas which Russia moved out of or a trap for it to walk into. The fact is NATO chose the latter so the Cold War is back on and has been since at least the end of the 1990’s.The problem being that the eastward expansion of NATO is all about the fact that America is no longer prepared to risk it’s homeland in a nuclear exchange with Russia. While at the same time trying to make an unbelievable move on Crimea and then wonder why Russia is pushing back. Then to add insult to injury those with your views now want to end the world as we know it over zb Crimea and at least Eastern Ukraine which is historically as Russian as Russian gets.If you really want to play with nukes,( I agree with the nuclear deterrent while also being a nationalist ) then you need a good reason to think about using them and the idea of deterrents is all about avoiding war not looking for ways to kick one off.In which case we’ve got Obama and the EU and those with your ideas when what we need is a Kennedy and those like him.

Please limit the comments to the thread title - The Scottish Referendum!
Or to put it another way the unionist side of the argument can make numerous different references,to numerous different, often unrelated issues,to make their case but the nationalist side can’t.

Who on this thread agrees with me that the 3rd London airport should be built over the top of Leatherhead, any chance we could start an on line petition to try and swing it,I bet Boris would support us if we introduced him to “CF” Bewick.

There won’t be a third London airport, heathrow will be expanded but not until Boris has been elected PM.

Great idea Dennis, they could also save a lot of money on the site investigations, CF could do all the BORING he’s had plenty of practice lately!! Regards Kev.
Distanced from the mindlessness of the City of London, the inertia of Westminster and the class-obsession of England, Scotland can do well. With policies financed by good resources within a small, well-run country with strong ideas of community, with a less class-driven, less capital-driven society the future bodes well for Scotland. Who knows, it might just create a Scottish model others will want to copy.
You could well be right McWilliam but I think it’s a dangerous experiment especially in these times of financial instability.
I think it needs pointing out that Salmond continually fudges the main issues.
You will not get currency union and the financial services sector will move south creating huge unemployment.
You will not be allowed to join the EU.
You will have the massive expense of creating your own state bodies and institutions.
Messing about with our nuclear deterrent in these times of Islamic and Russian expansion is just crazy.
You are agreeing to the creation of a rampantly socialist state without the necessary development of wealth creation to fund it.
On the plus side I’ll be able to visit God’s own country for a lot less money in future when whatever currency you end up with plummets while the pound continues to soar.
An independent Scotland doesn’t mean being lumbered with a one party SNP choice for ever more after the declaration.Yes Salmond put the place on the road to independence then it’s up to the Scottish as to what type of government they choose in their own country after that.Salmond obviously not being the only available choice as part of that.

Good luck!
More propaganda never convince yourself that you are part of the Westiminster elite!
How about this forget about the oil for one min. At the moment Scotland is near to producing 60% of its
Power with wind/sea turbines etc. Add all the tax from whisky etc that at the moment goes to London
Then we would be laughing all the way to the bank. Any money we make of the oil can then be kept in the biscuit tin for a rainy day. & before any smart arse says the monopoly bank it will be what other countries do I.e buy gold etc.
Which ever way the result go’s,and it’s looking guy close, there will be trouble!! Salmond will moan and greet if he loses by the odd percentage but will crow if he wins by a similar margin!! The same will go for Darling and the Labour wallahs, they won’t ken which to greet for more, losing the Independence thingy or the fact that all the Scottish M.P’s will be redundant and Labour will never be able to form another Government in England ( Hooray!) If Moriband manages to form a minority labour government at the next general election in 2015 he will be out on his arse when the Scots take control and become an independant country.Great, get the Border posts erected on the A74 and the A1 and no hard feelings eh! Cheers Bewick.
