The fact is we have a union of countries that works well with the most successful economy in the west. Why wreck it?
If Scotland’s banks had failed under independence the Scots would have had to beg to reunify to save their economy. The strength of the union was that London jumped in and bailed them out.
The economic risks of independence are huge. Apart from poking the English in the eye what is the point?

Lord Haw Haw was a member of the ■■■■ Party. He was in fact an Irish American his name was William Joyce. He was hanged in Wandsworth. I remember that happening when I was a lad. But I am amazed that with your vast knowledge CF you didn’t know that.

William Joyce replaced Mittler in 1939, Joyce was an American-born and raised in Ireland as a teenager he was an informant to the British forces about IRA rebels during the Anglo-Irish war. He fled England when tipped off about his planned internment on 26th August 1939. In February 1940, the BBC noted that Lord Haw-Haw of the early war days (possibly Mittler) was replaced by Joyce who was the main German broadcaster in English for most of the war. He became a naturalised German citizen, he eventually revealed his real name to his listeners.
Joyce was captured by British forces in northern Germany just as the war ended, tried and eventually hanged for treason on the 3rd of January 1946. Joyce’s defence team, appointed by the court, argued that, as an American citizen and naturalised German, Joyce could not be convicted of treason against the British Crown. However, the prosecution successfully argued that, since he had lied about his nationality to obtain a British passport and voted in Britain, Joyce owed allegiance to the King.

None of which changes the fact that the case for maintaining the Union is all about the Scots supposedly not being good enough to be able to support their low population and thereby expecting the English to pay for them.While being a political union that effectively means that what happens in South East England is in large part governed by a Scottish electoral mandate.

No thanks I don’t expect to have to subsidise the Scottish because they don’t think that they are good enough to look after themselves.Just as I don’t want local policy here decided by Scottish MP’s.The only people that told me that Scotland is ‘our’ country were a couple of murderous French invaders and then later an equally murderous German one.All of who luckily for the world being long dead.

Firstly it could arguably be said that ‘Scottish oil’ is actually in international waters depending on where the arbitrary line where that ends is drawn.Which as I’ve said is irrelevant anyway because the oil in question is actually effectively owned by the oil companies at least under the present Unionist system of government.Which is why we pay more or less the same pre tax price for the stuff since it was found as the Germans amongst other European UK oil importers.So from our point of view it’s a lose lose situation of paying world market oil prices for North Sea oil while also supporting the Scottish social security system and having Scottish MP’s voting on English government policy.
As for Yorkshire MP’s doing same absolutely.Which is why I’m calling firstly for the return of our English national government then followed by the return of our English regional ones with at least the powers of local Veto,over local decisions like development policy,too.In which case Yorkshire MP’s certainly shouldn’t have the right to impose policy on the South East for example.As for ‘give and take’ as I’ve said there’s no such thing as a free lunch it’s time for the Scottish to stand on their own feet and pay their own way in the world without keeping on looking for handouts from south of the border.
