scania 143

out of interest how much have you roughly spent on those parts with or without fitting nice motor the superspace had a look at the spacecab and i think it would always be in the back of my mind i wish i’ d got the superspace i think i want to pay approx 15k for a unit tops but it would have to be ready for the road and upto approx 25k ish inc a trailer but depending which work i am going into a may have to hire a trailer

PM Sent (hopefully)

yep gotcha tidy

stick with looking for a decent scania them downhill racers (daf) will cost a fortune and dealers are crap with no parts

I HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION TO THE LAST REPLY I STARTED OVER 6 YEARS AGO AS A OWNER DRIVER WITH A 7 YEAR OLD DAF 95 360. THIS MOTOR GOT ME ON MY WAY AND I KEPT IT FOR NEARLY 3 YEARS I DID BREAK DOWN A FEW TIMES AND IT WAS HEAVY ON FUEL .I THEN UPGRADED TO A 1 YEAR OLD EX GOLDSTAR DAF FROM HANDBURY RIVERSIDE I HAVE HAD NEW HEADS AND GASKETS OF WHICH DAF MET UNDER WARRENTY AS THIS IS A COMMON FAULT WITH DAF AND A FEW AIR VALVES. APART FROM THIS THE MOTOR HAS BEEN FIRST CLASS.THE LOCAL DEARLER IS VERY GOOD AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM GETTING ANY PARTS.IN ALL THIS TIME I HAVE CALLED DAF AID 3 TIMES AGAIN THEY WERE VERY GOOD .ON THE BACK OF THIS IF THER IS ANY WORK LEFT IN 3 YEARS IT WILL BE DAF AGAIN FOR ME.IF I WAS YOU I WOULD BUY A 3YEAR OID SPACECAB EITHER 430 OR480 AS THESE ARE CHEAPER TO BUY THAN A SCANIA PLENTY ABOUT TO CHOOSE FROM AT THE MOMENT IN COMMERCIAL MOTOR.THIS IS MY FIRST REPLY ON HERE SO I HOPE I HAVE DONE IT RIGHT PS SORRY FOR SOME OF THE SPELLING

Thanks for your input Professor, and welcome to TruckNET UK.

You’ve done it almost perfectly right but we would prefer it if you didn’t post all in capitals. Don’t worry about the spelling, as long as you get the message across it doesn’t really matter.

Paul.

reading another topic i have put on here about tippers as i thought i will probably have reconsider the 143 idea on weight alone i hope not but business head not heart

If you’re thinking of what the best unit would be for tipper work then how about either an ERF EC11? Theyre cheap (you can get a minter for about 5 grand, for example here) fairly light, fairly reliable and fairly good on fuel. They’re also plastic cabs so one less thing to rust. At that price even if it falls apart after a year you’ve not lost out.

If that’s a bit too old for you perhaps something like a Foden Alpha with the ■■■■■■■ engine. Essentially the same underneath as an EC11 but with the nicer DAF CF cab. I think they’re a bit heavier though.

i wouldn’t exactly call your example “a minter” :open_mouth:

Walker Movdements are good for cheap used trucks, but they always seem to look better in the pictures than they do when you get there.

the majority of their stuff is high mileage or old or rough

they had a 53 plate XF Superspace in a while ago, an ex-Maritime truck, looked good in the pics, my mate went to see it and walked away after a few minutes, it was that rough.

they do have some cheap high milers in that have been very well looked after, they look better than some of the newer lower mileage ones i have seen.

The CF with the mini lift is worth a look, as is the premium. Both very light, and reasonably economical,

Yes, there are a fair few of both of those out there on tipper work these days. One thing I will say though is if you’re buying a second hand unit (of any make) with a mini midlift axle then bear in mind that the first owner(s) aren’t going to have bought a lightweight unit to carry empty cardboard boxes around. It is likely to have spent a lot of its life at 44ton so it’s worth checking it over very carefully.

Paul

you have done it now ,tut tut tut ,u did it not me ,i had nowt to do with it ,i wasnt even here, he did it ,you owe dear mentioned premiums give him the grief(read back through topic)…dont say owt but(gulp)i like premiums but you can get em from reno dealer cheap enough g/y erf ecx looks ok

The only issue with buying wagons with tipping equipment already fitted is that it means it’s already been on bulk work so it’s probably already knackered

Paul

does anyone know how much it would roughly cost to fit tipping equipment to a truck without it?

costs for buying or just the fitting costs

both, equipment and fitting?

so lee are you going to get going this year or what,
