Truckulent:
I have to say that Facebook is the biggest load of ■■■■■■■■ on the planet after agencies…
Why the [zb] would you post anything on it?? It’s just a medium for brain dead chavs to tell each other how ace their lives are and how they are ‘just watching Jeremy Kyle’ or they’ve just ‘had ten bottles of WKD’ or how their six kids all went out with their six respective dads last night so I ‘got ■■■■■■ with my m8s’.
All the FB phanbois will be along in a moment to tell you that they use it, but “only to keep in touch with family in Australia/NZ”.
FFS, lol, my sister is one of the Jeremy Kyle 6 x 4 fathers and is on facebook, I am in Australia, hope she doesnt fricking use it to trace me I hate FB.
Facebook like any social network is what you make it. You can choose what you want to see. It can be a very useful tool esp for people who are away all the time and the different pages, mine included, can sometimes be just as good a source of information as Trucknet or the like. Remember some people (not me) think Trucknet is full of morons posting s*** too so you know swings and roundabouts. After all a forum is just another social network. Basically I think people need to be taught how to get the most from social media because when used properly it’s a very very powerful tool.

Don’t give them even more ideas for crappy and pointless Uni degrees
i went on facebook once, to try and track down a old school friend. i succeeded, but she didn’t reply, so that was that and i deactivated my account. why anyone would use it for anything else…
The ease in which one can use facebook, an Iphone, and online communications generally has swept a lot of the ordinary public into a realm that once was only for techies & nerds. Male dominated, much like the trucking industry it was, but we could all type and spell and knew what the system was capable of. Those skills remain, but few get paid for it any more. We remain reletively guarded in what we say, and how - because how information circulates through a network is actually part of the “driving licence” for when we were employed in the computer industry.
Anyone can wise up, but few can actually be bothered.

I agree. Facebook is purely for stalking your exes. Once they have all taken court action against you, you may as well perma delete your FB account. Unless you are HONESTLY interested that fat john from year 12 who you never fricken spoke to has just had a nice fishfinger sandwich …

I reckon the odd VOSA man dips in to it from time to time, only last week we had one guy telling us how he got round taking breaks , not only that but went on to say all his mates on the firm done the same technique , it wouldn’t take Columbo to do a bit of digging to track these guys down to help fund the VOSA Christmas party would it? and as somebody said… these guys are let loose on the road with 44tonnes
God my ego is out of control, I’m quoting myself now , just an update… the guy in question,( I won’t embarrass him even though he gave me a smartarse comment ) has just gone on to give the firm he works for on one thread,( I bet his mates love that )… but not only that… wait for it… even gave his name on another. You couldn’t make it up! Hope for him and more for the rest of the guys on his firm that VOSA are not regular TN viewers.
I have said it before , but no-one listens many would be surprised on who reads this forum, and in a couple of cases just who is behind some of the usernames.
I have been in meeetings attended by directors of some of the largest companies involved in transport both in the UK and abroad- and they are more than aware of TruckNet and the content on it.
Also more then one company now has a social media manager- or contractor, whose sole role is to utalise social media for their brands and monitor how their brands are percieved on social media.
What may just be a laugh or a bit of off duty fun for you, is being taken very seriously by some very hefty companies. “Its only the internet no-one cares” is no longer true and hasnt been true for quite a while.
They do care about their brands and what is said on social media, and yes people have lost jobs by what has been written on here and other places.
The lesson to learn is what is posted here isnt transient- a comment to a couple people in a bar stays between those people or is hearsay- by posting it on the internet you are publishing it for all the world to see and read- and it stays to be seen and read again and again by an evergrowing number of people, that is the difference between posting a commnt and having an opinion in a conversation - ones private - ones public and broadcasting to all and sundry something damaging, if proved untrue, or is unable to be proved true, can cost both the poster and the publisher (in this case us) alot.
A lot of you dont like our level of moderation- But it is set at a level to protect ourselves and you as it stands under current law, if case law determines that a different approach can be taken we will look at it, what we wont allow is us to be taken to court to be the case that defines the law.
We do have some very good media lawyers on retainer as a company , and you all may be surprised at just how much content from here is sent to them for review- even more suprised on how much we allow to stay. Pulling content is very much a last resort unless it is obviously over the top.

A conceited reply from Rob K is imminent.
Not sure how thats relevant -
The advice I take is from the owners and their lawyers - its my job to interpret that advice - and ensure we dont get sued, (which we have done , with a few close calls) for over 10 years- criticism or “advice” from anyone on here is heard, but rarely (not never) acted upon
If Rob K or anyone else wants to impart their wisdom they can… ( and do often ) but the credence given to that advice is always measured by, the person, and their credibility… some folks have more credibility than others.
Some things have changed directly from constructive criticism on here, the amount of trolling, while not eliminated has dropped significantly since we took a tougher approach, some dont like the tougher approach, normally those that like winding folks up.
However to be traditional and to give those that enjoy having a dig at us something to bite at - guess what last month was a record month for the year, more unique users and more page views - it may not suit every individual but more people are using and reading TruckNet UK than ever before, that says to me we are not getting it too far wrong
Ricki.
i know you worry about being sued. but wouldn’t you agree that it can have a positive outcome from a marketing point of view?
there is a holiday park near where i live. it used to be called Tarzans. MGM threatened to sue unless they changed the name. the boss went to the papers and said he wouldn’t back down, after several months of free international advertising and adjournments, he changed the name and made a fortune.
