do personal opinions of people matter if they can do the job well? sounds like the boss is a ■■■■■■ and cant separate personal and professional. you dont need to like the people you work with. you are only there to do a job, not to be most popular employee (or employer) of the month and im sure plenty of employees have been slated by their bosses. the only difference is an employer has the authority to act childishly about it and dismiss an employee who doesnt want to be their bestest friend in the whole wide world
are you really as stupid as this post makes you out to be?
there is one thing having a bit of banter about the boss online, whether it be on forums or facebook, but, it is totally different to calling your boss a ■■■■
sorry, if any of my employees said anything like that, they would be gone

You’ve had a few employees ain’t ya■■?
yes, but, none have publicly said anything of that nature, and none have been sacked for anything put online
also, none have left for anything that has been put online either
so, i can’t really see where you are going with this, unless, of course, you know something about me or my business that i don’t?

It’s never ceased to amaze me some of the stuff written on public forums. With some people it’s as if they are writing in a personal diary for their own eyes only . It’s the same on TNet, it’s bound to be looked at by transport firm bosses if only just out of curiousity, and I reckon the odd VOSA man dips in to it from time to time, only last week we had one guy telling us how he got round taking breaks , not only that but went on to say all his mates on the firm done the same technique , it wouldn’t take Columbo to do a bit of digging to track these guys down to help fund the VOSA Christmas party would it? and as somebody said… these guys are let loose on the road with 44tonnes
Perhaps the trucker’s answer on TNUK is to simply become more political - I.e. actually become more GUARDED in our comments that might one day be thrown in our faces.
Best stick to works of non-fiction over fiction when writing on here I reckons!
I never understood why people don’t keep facebook real simple in terms of who you “friend” and who you don’t.
(1) Family
(2) Actual friends you might go to the pub for a drink with
(3) Birds you would like to get to know better.
(4) Contacts that might get you a job/enrich you in some way at some point in the future.
I reckon your current management/law enforcment/local grass doesn’t fall into any of the above categories, so I don’t understand why anyone would let them have a window on your life?!

so you have been in love with every boss you have ever had?
people go to work to do a job and whether they like their boss or not should have absolutely no bearing on their performance so what is your problem if they dont like you personally? its just a job! im surprised you have any employees with your attitude towards them and their opinion of you. you get on with your job and let them get on with their jobs. liking each other has nothing to do with it and shouldnt matter as long as the work is being done to a satisfactory standard. if you cant live with that then the problem lies with you, not the people who work for you

no, but, even if i had, i have never felt the need to post it all over the internet either
and what would you know of my attitude towards my employees?
have you ever worked for me?
NO
so, there again, you are talking ■■■■■■■■ about things you know nothing about
just for your information, i do actually value the opinion of my employees, but, there again, i do have company rules about posting company information on the internet
that information can include where the driver is going, what he is carrying, any derogatory comments about the planners or anyone else, the list is not exhaustive
suppressing the PERSONAL opinions of your workforce is more likely to make your business a success is it? i can understand work related matters like loads etc but personal opinions of people are just that. we all work with people we dont like. thats just life and there is no difference between griping in person or griping online. its nothing more than stress relief and we all do it. we all have bad days and blow off some steam. unless they are threatening to act on it then i dont see the problem and you should be leading the way. you dont like me? fine, theres your work for the day, off you go.
it really isnt a big deal unless it is blown out of proportion. get on with the job and forget about it. there are bigger things in life to worry about than people you work with liking you
Bking:

and to tell you the truth gentlemen i am ■■■■■ ashamed.
That in a Trade (transport) I have been in for over 40 bloody years, that trades on its “oh so macho image” is reduced to calling somebody else names on some, lets face it,gossiping wives bloody network instead of walking into a transport office and saying “your a [zb] and I will see you outside”

I was with you all the way up until that point…
Sorry, but drivers and planners MUST always slag each other off, disagree 100% and blame each other for their cockups… And the planners started it

i can see your point, BUT, when it comes to a small family firm, it is important that everyone gets along
i have had employees that have upset the others, and they didn’t last long at all
with it being a small firm, if anyone feels that they need to insult or slag off the boss/company either online of face to face, i would really question their commitment to their job
larger companies, such as Maritime, Wincanton, DHL and the like, it is more likely that you will get the odd few out of hundreds, possibly thousands of employees that are a little disgruntled with the boss/company, but, even so, i would still question their commitment
Shuttlespanker makes a good point from an operators point of view, but It depends how you define commitment, I reckon you can be " commited" to your firm/job as far as doing it to the best of your ability, as for loyalty that depends on how you are treated by your company, and is earned, I have worked for a firm in the past who looked on their drivers as an asset, I was loyal to them as far as being content enough with no desire to leave, I now work for a firm who looks upon their drivers as a necessary evil based on the way they treat and consider their drivers at head depot level (not a slag off but a observational fact) I would leave tomorrow if a good or better job came up, ie commited in terms of MY definition, loyal…no.

I thought you were an OD.
In the main I agree with t’other Rob. If an employee of mine was slagging me off behind my back for no good reason then I would be politely recommending we part company, however I would rather there weren’t any grievances in the first place so would see what their issue was and see what, if anything, could be done to resolve it and them to be happy. Happy workforce = productive workforce.
If it was someone I know on a personal basis that was slagging me off then game on , two can play that game but even then, there are still boundaries on what is acceptable and what isn’t. Even if you are friends outside work, it is not a recommended thing to slag off your gaffer if he’s having a bad day, otherwise you might quickly find yourself with one less friend and no job as well.
In summary, regardless of the circumstances it’s not a good idea to slag off your boss.

You have got to be naive if you believe that. Griping in person gives an immediate right of reply and an small audience. Online it could be days/weeks before the person learns of the comment and may well have been seen by hundreds/thousands, in which time no end of damage could have been done to personal or company reputations.
Did you happen to miss the child abuse allegations falsely made against Lord McAlpine and the response it provoked?

Can you not question the commitment of those managers in the bigger companies like the ones you quote? Someone in your position with a financial stake in the company would, I contend, expect to be with the company for the long term because of that interest in the company.
Would managers in a company, in which they hold no stake, be looking for the next move, promotion or the like rather than the interests of the company and it’s staff/client/customers. I have been told by many people that they are always looking for the next step as staying in the same role for to long shows a lack of ambition so how can those attitudes and mindsets be seen as committed to anyone but themselves? It seems fair to question the “commitment” to their current position/employer/client/team.
