Carl:
had a look thru truck locator this week its a free truck sale mag and mendlesham comercials or somthing had the longline and 2 toplines for sale aswell as the metalic red and white ones from another topic were these red n white ones to be romantieks new motors as it said they were a cancelled order
The red & white ones seem to be operated by somebody who pulls fridge trailers, don’t know who tho.
How much was the longline going for??
The owner driver pulling fridges with the 580 you have seen is called Martin Bliss, he comes from Scole nr Diss, he bought it from Humphreys around 3 or 4 years ago. Humphreys also painted it red and white, just to cover up the distinctive blue, it went on the forecourt red and white. I doubt he has anything to do with the 2 new trucks for sale. Whenever i see him, he is pulling MRCT fridges.
Kindle,
This the one you mean?? I’ve seen it a couple of times too, pulling Roy Humphrey trailers?

Yeah thats me kindle…had the red and white one for just under 4 years now and its been pretty reliable but thirsty…im now thinking of chopping it in for a 2006 470 R series that has been traded at Humphreys by a guy who ive been told pulls for Derek Coopers…he has bought an FH i think.
On the subject of MGH on the A140, a 4 wheeler R620 with all the bells and whistles will set you back 94 grand and the 6 wheelers 104 grand…but someone told me that you get only 3 months warranty as they are a year old and the Scania warranty has now run out but he does seem to be selling quite a few…i would love that Longline but how can you justify that on MRCT

Blissy, I’d love to see some pics of the red & white 580!!

Try these Chorcheela
Here is where i got it all wrong dropping down a hill just outside Hastings about 2 years ago,I had to get it up on the grass verge and sink the front wheels to stop and to avoid the trailer coming all the way round…I never realised that a heart could beat as loud and fast as mine did that morning
Blissy - That’s a lovely looking motor, you must be proud of it!
Below is another 4x2 164 registration Y178PDX - another ex-romantiek motor, presumably from the same lot sold at Humphrey’s as your one? But not re-painted so it’s still in the BVBA white & blue.

Should think that’d be one of Dixons, he’s got about half a dozen on DCT, Scanias and Volvos. He did use to have 1 or 2 Magnums, 6x2’s that were chipped to 600 bhp, or so the drivers would tell you.
Did did someone reckon them long lines would set you back £150000, thats like 3 Premiums, or one Premium and a wedge off cash to keep each month, now your talking

Yeah it is one of Dixons Eddie…i pick it up Saturday…out with the 580 in with the 470

Blissy, look forward to pictures when it’s done! Incidentally I saw another ex-Romantiek BVBA 580 on the A14 recently, same 4x2 as yours and a Y-reg, now owned by Doug Reid international from Gloucester I think. I’m guessing that they must have sold off a whole bunch through Humphreys at once?
Chorcheela … Humphreys sold 4 of them back in April 2004…he had 3 blue and white ones and for some reason painted the one i bought red and white…i knew then that MGH /Romntiek were having VOSA trouble so i thought it was best to buy the one that wouldnt be pulled in for checks every day The guy at Humphreys who sold me the truck said that MGH/Romantiek were gradually going to change over all the trucks to Longlines, when VOSA shut them down they impounded either one or two Longlines and 6 R164s…the other Longline was locked up inside the garage on the A140 …i had a look at it last March when I was enquiring about the R620s he now sells…it was very very nice but alas I didnt think to take any pics …whether he still has it or not i dont know… .I think VOSA caught him out over cabotage rules as they were all Belgian registered but pulling boxes out of Felixstowe and as far as I know VOSA still has all the trucks that they impounded…i dont know what he would have to do to get them back…maybe a great big bin liner full of 50 pound notes??

As far as I know VOSA have impounded at least one T cab 164 at Dover, and 13 tractor units and 9 trailers at Felixstowe. That would make it a very big bin liner!!!
Seriously though, they must be worth a big wedge. Surely VOSA can’t just take them all like that■■? I heard the law allowing VOSA to impound vehicles was only introduced recently, and the main seizure was in Feb/March this year, so I guess there may be some kind of appeal going on in this case…
Blissy, is this the new one by any chance?? Its the only 470 4x2 they seem to have…

Yeah thats my one…ive had all the silver (grill, skirts, bumper etc) painted in black so its all black at the moment apart from the chassis infill…ive started buying a bit of stainless for it and will do it up over the coming months…got to say its absolutely phenominal on diesel…getting 10 mpg out of it 2 more than my old V8 so its saving me about £150 a week…the other big plus with it is 18 months left on the r & m contract so repairs are free for a while…all in all im pretty chuffed with it…my old V8 is apparantely pulling boxes out of Felixstowe a mate of mine saw it last week BROKEN DOWN on the M25 hope it was nothing to serious

…well it must have done a few years of pulling boxes before you bought it, during its’ sky blue and white period!
I saw an article on VOSA’s website this week saying that the TC refused an appeal in October to return 13 impounded tractor units to Romantiek. The appeal is still ongoing, but they’re down to one lonely Renault Premium parked up and that hasn’t moved for months.
kindle530:
I heard a whisper the other day that everything of theirs has been crushed…
Ouch!!!
I understand that under the 1995 goods vehicles act, VOSA does have the power to sell or destroy vehicles if they have been impounded and either not claimed or an appeal has failed.
But again, ouch!!!
One of the MRCT fitters was talking to a VOSA guy from Ipswich last week and he told him that the only way the vehicles would be returned would be (wait for it) if MGH paid (here we go) a million and a half pounds to them and then they would return the vehicles but even then the O licence wouldnt be renewed automatically…the VOSA guy said " theyve had a good run but its now time for them to forget about getting back into transport because its not going to happen"and anyone running for them ie subbies etc will put themselves under the risk of VOSA investigation.not sure if thats entirely fair but it really looks like VOSA do not want them trading at all…now if all that talk of money is true I wonder where it goes ■■? towards funding VOSA or straight into thieving Gordon Browns coffers ■■?
I heard this week that the full details on the case have been published on the VOSA transport tribunal website. As previous posts in this thread have suggested, the company’s owners had appealed against the impounding of all their trucks, and the appeal was heard in October - it seems they were not successful in their appeal.
I would watch the transport press for this one in the coming weeks.
