What a great thread with so many good pictures…how about going right back to the early days.
Apologies for the poor quality but l hope these cuttings are of interest.
Cheers Marc.
Fantastic Bubbleman, thanks for that . Not seen that stuff for a long time
Here’s another old one but not my photo
Thats interesting to see the early days of Rokold. Didn’t Robin East wok for Bejam before he started Rokold ?. Nipper, what did you use to load down to Greece ?. You seem to have got down there quite a bit. Did you use to ship empty back often and load Italy ?. I could never make sense of the economics of it ?.

You are correct, he was an accountant for Bejam
Used to load down;
Mars chocolate from Slough and Veghel, Holland.
British Beef, Offel meat (if thats how you spell it ), Greenock and Preston
Onken Yoghurts from Germany
MacDonalds buns, burgers, sauces
etc etc
Load back;
Oranges, grapes from the Korinth area and peaches from the north.
Frozen veg from the Thessaloniki.
Frozen “Calippo” lollies from Patras
and yes sometimes went into Yugoslavia for frozen fruit or come back into Italy for all manner of refrigerated things including fresh friut and veg, frozen veg and chestnuts for GB or anywhere else in Europe
Once, coz there was nothing else about I run from Athens empty on a friday morning, via the Patras boat up to MUNICH, Germany
for Muller yoghurts monday morning.
Yeah, did do my fair share of Greece and loved it ( coz I was single,cab happy and dont mind admitting it
) as did a few of the others on there.
squeezed in on the Greek ferry
Loading frozen veg in Giannitsa, GR

Hi Ian, Yeah I remember Mimi . Still I suppose we were all young once.I see you are still driving for a living, I dont know how you can still do it, I get fed up driving after an hour or so. I left Ralphs in 1999 , worked for wincanton for five years, then my wife fell ill 2004 and sadly passed away in 2006, and I havent done anything since. Its nice to read about all your exploits and I still remember the times we ran together. (in the good old days) . Keep posting as I follow this thread with interest. Chris.
