Pic taken at Truckfest many moons ago, just had transparencies put on a disc. ■■■■ Edwards’ brother, Alan, was on for Bejam at same time as me. Roger Keen, that’s also a name I recall from the cold store @ MK.

A CLASS LOOKING FLEET LOVE THESE 3

Evening Nipper. Sure you know anyway but we ended up with a couple of the ‘G’ reg’s. Both class motors. Pretty sure they came from either a dealer or an auction - definately not direct from Rokold though but they were the previous owners. We had G961 and Denny Belbin had G963 which Mappo drove for him. Can remember in my youth polishing the Alcoas in Perugia at the weekend after it was put through the wash Friday in Modane on the way down. Very clean and tidy when they arrived. Chassis painted our blue, toptank fitted, Name put on headboard and the gel on. G961 ended up being bought by a bloke called Brad Nussey from Newbury way as it made way for the first August batch of FH’S start of 1994 and Denny p/ex’d his against his first one (FH) M40 DEN which Mappo had new, then Reader afterwards. Fantastic photos of places all over Europe where we all used to load from at certain times of the year, guaranteed to bump into someone and back then, when giving load instructions to the drivers, you only had to say the name of the packhouse and they all knew where and what it was. How times have changed!!! Paul Durham still on for us but Walter been retired now for a couple of years. Take care, Horry (Davies Int)

spot on nipper more pics :stuck_out_tongue: those were the days my friend :sunglasses:

Digging up an old post. Having been in the army for past 25 years just retired last summer now back trucking passing the time in the highlands I thought i would google rokold and up this thread come.

What memories. Worked for them for few years while at the army freight squadron in Bicester. Mostly uk to start then started hauling soap from next door across to Europe then up to holland for frozen veg if I remember. At then back fill up from mars and repeat.

Good times! Good trucks when they had them gear lever things!!!

hiya Rokold drivers someone is looking for you

After Wincanton stuffed up Rokold, they stuffed the superb Sun Valley European, and we were made redundant by text on a Friday night !!

I too was stuffed by Wincanton European Logs and Sticks when they took over Sun Valley. After notification of our redundancy we were instructed to congregate at Belmont Abbey in Hereford on the Sunday morning of the actual takeover where we were introduced to Robin East and members of Wincanton Human Resources team. Robin was there as we were to be merged with Rokold at Bicester. I could not resist telling the W/C people that I could not recall having completed an application form for employment with Wincanton nor had they asked me if I would like to work for them, perhaps they thought I was a part of M914RVJ like a wheel or something and would have no objection! Then I delivered my “piece de resistance” when I asked if they were aware that about 10 years previously Wincanton had taken over a Dutch company i.e J.A.van Spronson which had been in business for several generations and within a year it was “Belly Up” will this be the same scenario? WAS I RIGHT OR WAS I RIGHT?? I decided to take my redundancy but stayed on for three weeks at Robin’s request .At Sun Valley I had the pleasure of working with the best colleagues I had ever or will ever work with again! Also the best job and working conditions imagineable.

There isn’t a Sun Valley thread on here,at least i haven’t found one,so to continue with the theme,Sun Valley European was the best paid, totally legal European outfit and as mentioned above had some great people to work with.Including my Uncle Peter and Ian Gutteridge,John Wiffen and many i dont remember the names of now.I had never earned so much money,Good times now looking back.Best wishes to you all.
The only gripe was getting stuck with a 320 F10 to do Spain and all the lovely Man Roadhouse tractors did Orleans shunts.
I went to PJK,then BOC Gases on Haz tankers and now 8 years for a French coldstore.

Let me refresh your memory a bit old chap.Terry Bean, Glen Savage,John Boxall, Bill Willets, Doug Price, John Williams,Phil Williams, Phil Warren,Roy Tolley, Paul Thompson aka Yanto, Andy Ritchie, Dave Brooks, Neil? from Ashford ex Brian Yeardley,Rod Axford, George Forster (Jock with a Frock) John Farrell, and me of course the tearaway from Tewkesbury? Can’t think of anyone else at the moment except Peter Plant who did weekends along with a bloke who worked at the Council Depot at the top of the hill on theA49 going towards Ross. Ted Morgan, Bloke from Pompey area who drove N254VFO? If I think of any more I’ll let you know. Perhaps it would be worth starting a Sun Valley thread.Going back to the Rokold theme , I first had dealings with them when I was Subbing for Newpark from Wotton Basset in the mid 80’s Guy Marshall RIP and Robin East were both members of an association called Transfrigoroute.
