I don’t mind hard graft, besides I think I’ll only be grafting when loading/unloading cages. I know it’s more hours but I’m thinking of the bigger picture. I could get something better paid if I can stick it for 6 months- 2 years. Surely then it will open new opportunities. I think it’s just me, I’ve been in my current role for 8 years and i just want to be sure I’m doing the right thing as I have a mortgage, family etc to think about.
Don’t be scared of change mate. You’ve paid for the licence for a reason. You should really never be out of work.
Save up enough in new job and go for class 1 licence and use that to move jobs if you hate it at new place.

Thanks
I’ve got class one. It’s just the change but I’m going to give it a go.
I do apologise in advance. I’ve been thinking this thread is about Bidvest. Got a lot on my mind dogs in vets and not looking good and I’m on Tapatalk and not paying attention to what I’m reading.
Right if the job pays more and they are willing to give you a chance then you take it with both hands. Even if you hate the job which I doubt you will then you can always go back to being a bus driver though within a week you’ll be wishing you had done class 1 sooner.
Get the experience and after 180 days you can move on to something else if you don’t like it.
No worries I think I’ll be daft to pass this opportunity. Yeah it’s more money but more hours. So we’ll see how it goes but I’ll keep everyone informed how I’m getting on.
Why are people still thinking you need 2 years experience to move on to better things?
The only 2 hurdles there are in this industry are ZERO experience, and enough experience to satisfy that particular firms insurance!
So even with just a few months worth of experience it’s worth having a look about and asking questions…
I was stopped from taking a return load a while back with a well known company as I had my class 1 less than a year …they sat and explained about a load of bridge strikes being the reason where I asked them if a driver would be less likely to hit a bridge just because it doesn’t bend …they just gave me a mini bus to get back to original depot…

This is very true. I start my training in January and firms near me that used to advertise 2 years required have moved on to"experience preferred” any job is a start but as soon as have any experience will be looking constantly

Yes some are having to drop this requirement, and others are still wondering why they are not getting their choice of applicants anymore!

What do you have to do in the job? Is it just drive to a few locations and unload it yourself or is it unloaded for you?

I have to drive to a rdc, drop trailer and pick one up with 1 or 2 max store runs. I get to each store, unload cages from a double decker and pick up empties from each store then return to Gateshead.
I’ve just phoned up and they’ve said they’ve filled the positions and they will be in touch if anything comes up. Oh well seems like i wasted my time going out Saturday without pay just to be told this two days later. It’s not a case of sour grapes honestly lol

Keep searching I guess
Maybe could not wait for an answer. You could phone agencies and get your foot through the door that way. No idea what your area is like but in Leicester they are wanting loads of drivers and the wages are pretty good.
Nice of them. We still talking about Canute? I saw an advertisement just the end of last week for them.
Stiller’s up in Aycliffe are on the lookout for class 1 drivers, 4 on 4 off…6 mth experience

You didn’t waste your time pal, you got experience and were quite possibly beaten by better qualified candidates that also turned up…
Put it in the knowledge bank and move on to the next, with hopes of better luck.
Statistics show that persistence pays!
Usual advice I give is to go and ask the smaller firms. We have taken on youngsters with no commercial experience, not because we are desperate, it’s that we all know what it’s like to start out. The big corporations don’t have that understanding.
