Hello all hope you are all well. So my question is does £23000 a year seem about right for class one work based up in the North East? I’m not sure on hours worked yet until my interview tomorrow but it equates to take home £361 pw/£1568pcm. I’m thinking if i was to do 48 hours a week then that’s 7.50ph and obviously less hours, say 40 hours at 9ph. There is a mention of bonuses and shift allowance but I’m unsure how much it would boost my wage up?
What do you think? I’m unsure what to do?
Not really, but since you don’t have the full picture yet, no one can judge.

If you want a job why not go to the interview and get the rest of the information, it doesn’t sound great but until you’ve got all the details I don’t see how you can decide.
You’re not committing to anything by going to the interview so…
Yeah I know I’ll go to the interview but wanted to get your views. I suppose if I was successful then it’s experience, a foot in the door and I can look for something better 12/18 months down the line.
Thank you.
No it’s ■■■■.

[zb] is what Trucknets auto-censor changes censored words to, for instance if you typed the f word in full the auto-censor would change it to [zb].
People often type [zb] to express a swear word that would be auto-censored.
We are all ■■■■■■■ adults, no need to ■■■■■■■ censor anything. Having said that things could ■■■■■■■ deteriorate pretty ■■■■■■■ quickly if any ■■■■ could say what they wanted. So maybe a good ■■■■■■■ idea after all
You might also want to think about the “dry spell” in January, February. I know the last couple of years it’s been bad in the Northeast. Last year I didn’t get any shifts at all in January. Keep that in mind even if it’s not a great job. They say it’s easier to find work while you’re working. Also gives experience as well as an income when some guys are really struggling.

That’s what I was thinking, thanks Eddie. The money doesn’t sound great but I’m not signing forever or for a fixed time when I was in the Army.
Can always see what it’s like and look at it as if they’re on a trial period

Exactly Eddie. Are you from up here?
You maybe lucky to only do 48 hours a week, not many work less than 12 hour days
Thats terrible and I thought I was on a bad wage.
In the advert there is mention of " Bonuses, Lunch allowance Overtime/ Shift allowance when applicable"
So I’ll ask about this tomorrow?

Eddie makes a good point when you compare the job to limping where you may be stuck at home with your Aldi carrier bag post Xmas. It doesn’t sound a great wage, but I don’t know the area. We also need to consider that a fresh faced Newbie’s choices are a little limited, and experience is a factor here. So I’d attend the interview and try to pin down the T&C’s before I made a decision. Then I’d weight up the pro’s and con’s with an eye on just sticking out out until things pick up again in the New Year, when the OP will have a bit of experience and more options.
Best of luck with the interview Bus driver!
That £23k is probably basic pay and you can up that by extra hours shifts or bonuses.
Much better than the £45k the ‘‘personel manager’’ (driver who did so much damage they took him off the road) used to tell new starters at one place i worked, this around 20 years ago, yes about 3 of the well in boys did earn that but the reality was nearer £25/27k for all hours God sent for the rest of us, how they didn’t end up in court for misrepresentation is a mystery to this day.
Thanks so much for your opinions, I’ll know alot more about the job come tomorrow so at least I’ll get some interview experience if the position isn’t suitable.

I’m now living in Durham, been up n down for a few years now and gradually came back to driving. Was working a non driving job for a few years just outside Glasgow…I’m from Hamilton. I moved permanently just back in May but been driving part time for a couple years down here just getting to know the lay of the land so to speak. Co-op put on a 5 mth contract up till September and now back to agency work for now. I’ve made a few contacts and know a few of the agencies and places now.
