Reasonable

If you ain’t working currently then 23k is a wage you was not getting before.

If your working and your current wage is below 23k then 23k is a wage you was not getting before.

Good luck at the interview.

As others have stated it’s a job, it pays and it will give you experience. If anything just use it as a stepping stone like I do with jobs.

Thank you so much. I need to drop the pay into the interview if it’s not clarified but don’t want to come across as that’s all I care about. I need to come across as professional too.

Asking about pay isn’t un-professional. Frankly if you don’t clarify it, you are setting yourself up to be exploited…

Well I’ve been to the interview and got everything clarified. I’ll let you know the facts and you can tell me what you think.
It’s day shift starting times between 530 and 11am latest.
Work 1 out 6 Saturdays.
The wage is not a salary. 449 per week and extra 36.50 pw for lunch expenses and attendance, performance bonus. So 485.50 pw but get paid monthly which works out at roughly 1691 per month after deductions.
10.26 overtime rate after 9 hours.
What do you guys think?
They want me to go out a week Saturday as a passenger to see the job first hand.

It’s driving down to Manton then nearly 2 store runs before returning to Gateshead. Around 40 cages per store run so potentially 80 cages then emptys to to collect and return.

I don’t think that’s too bad. is that your top line or net wage?

Baring in mind I get the attendance/performance bonus every week. (26.50) and lunch expenses 10.00. The depot manager said 449 basic pw.

Its not great, but its hardly the shocker it appeared to be at the OP…

What would you do in my shoes guys?

Take it. See how it feels, if its all good and you enjoy it and you are getting by on your bills, then great! If the job is ■■■■, and you feel like they are taking the ■■■■, then hack it as long as you can to get some valuable experience under your belt, while you look for something more suitable!

Its a no brainer, really!

I’m not seeing the contracted hours per week, have I missed that bit? :open_mouth:
And how does the overtime get paid, per day (after 8 hours) or per week or month?

P.S. The overtime rate is tosh, but I’m more interested in knowing the basic weekly hours to start with…

Thanks I’m thinking about it, what are others views on this?

Hi

The weekly hours are between 50 and 60 and they have a 17 week exemption I would sign to say I’m happy to do that, etc. SURELY I CAN’T DO THAT EVERY WEEK?
Overtime is paid after 9 hours, paid monthly I think.

With breaks & poa deducted from your weekly total hours of 50/60…Yes you could do that everyweek…

You could legally do 90/75 if you could keep your eyes open long enough. Its all about how much POA and break you book during your shifts as this doesn’t count towards your WTD limits over 17 weeks. Whether you would want to or not is another matter…

Its sounding like a less good job it has to be said.

It’s pretty much run of the mill in this area. I do bout 60 odd hours a week just now and that rate isn’t great for nights. I get time 1/2 after 8 hours and lose a lot through deductions. I’m just biding my time till the start of the new year to see what happens. I’m ongoing so hopefully take me through the start of the year …I also sat my ADR a couple weeks ago and waiting on results so I hopefully have that as well. I’d take it and learn from it, you’ll also hear about other jobs on the road and you might even like it

Have you got anything else in the pipeline?, if nothing doing and this the run up to the busiest time of the year, then i’d be inclined to take it as a safe stable to shelter till the spring then have a look round, never know you might find it an enjoyable job and its always easier to get other jobs when you are in a regular one.

OT after 9 hours you say, make sure thats on a daily basis and not after 40 or 48 or even 50 hours, or you could work 44 hours over 4 days and they only give you 6 hours on the 5th day and you lose all your OT rate of its weekly based, this is probably what Evil was referring to in contracted hours.

You need to think as deviously as they do.

Oops try again lol

I’m in regular work and hate it with a passion. I keep thinking it’s good driving experience. I’m thinking if i get offered the job, take it and yes it’s more hours but more money and valuable experience. I see alot of adverts asking for drivers who have drove a HGV in the last 180 days so I’m sure I could stick it for these stick it for this long at least until something better comes up. I’m going on the run with another driver a week tomorrow so I’ll have a better idea of what the job entails then.

I suppose I could ask the driver this on the run down a week tomorrow.
