I must be one of the few people who actually like Clare. She’s had a stonking year in her career, what with both Olympics, and her knowledge of horsey type stuff is second to none. She does come from a horsey background though.Haven’t heard her on radio yet though, but she has got to be one of the best female presenters out there, dyke or not. She’s definitely the butch one though.
Ken.
So what’s that got to do with playing music.
What I said was she is a good presenter, and is very knowledgeable about what she is doing, so that suggests to me she does her research on a particular subject. So I’m guessing that when she presents a radio show, what ever topic she will throw into the mix, I’ve no doubt she will have looked into it first.
The fact that she knows Mr.Plastic isn’t really an issue as far as I’m concerned, as there are many “other side” presenters on tv and radio, Gok Wan, Graham Norton, Alan Carr etc, and they make for great entertainment.
Ken.
must admit do like the afternoon play on radio 4, the one about the english spy in egypt was very good, also like the comedy on at 6.30 pm. the news quiz and the now show are great, stopped listening to the today programme as its bloody depressing, PM is much better as eddie mair can be funny on it. as for radio 2 i listen to chris evans and ken bruce, over to radio 4 for 11.30 through to 3 pm then steve wrights oldies then usually classic fm till 5pm.
how the hell claire balding got the gig i dont know cant stand the woman…
Can’t be arsed withR2 these days, all BBC has started to creep in ‘adverts’, you and I pay to listen to what’s coming up next thur evening on BBC4! WTF■■? Talk sport - hawksbie+jacobs for me , then PM on R4.
Ill admit, radio 1 was good when they had mark and lard and dave lee travis, even chris moyles i found good!!!
But the radio on my coach is crap so its Heart until i get to around Maidenhead on the M4 when it loses signal so tune into Time 1066 where it stays on until for the duration of my time in Slough where it gets changed back to Heart when i reach Bracknell on the M4…
If i get ■■■■■■ off with listening to the passengers talking then i use the phones headphones and tunein app to listen to Kiss 100…

A digital radio is a must - Radcliffe & Maconie on ‘6 records’, 1.00 - 4.00!
Absolutely this. Shaun Keaveny on the breakfast show is fantastic too. BBC 6Music is great.

Yes I love Shaun Keaveny too, and for music fans Marc Riley in the evenings is brilliant. The Craig Charles Funk & Souls show on Saturday nights is amazing, and I wasn’t even a funk and soul fan when I started listening. Tom Ravenscroft Friday evenings is great for some off the beat and track stuff, Tom Robinsons music taste is just like mine. Jarvis Cocker is the perfect show for a Sunday afternoon. Its just an amazing station. Oh and Mary Anne Hobbs doing weekday breakfast is a brillyant new addition too.
Can you tell I’m a bit enthuastic about this station!
You’re not the only one switchlogic - it’s bloody brilliant.

Ditto. The Craig Charles Funk and Soul show makes the start of my Saturday night shift worthwhile, never get any work done until thats finished
Has to be the dark lord ,then switch over to Talksport, Feltz crap, Steve wright head up his own arse. Tim smith not bad as a stand in on R2 give him on show and extend the SLOGAN

Overnight went really good over Xmas - Had someone doing 12-3 in place of Janice who was ok, then the dark lord did 3-6.30 completely cutting out Vanessa’s show, wish they’d left it that way!Alex lester is brilliant, I think he should have his show extended permenantly.
Yes, preferably starting at midnight, so Janice (60 a day) Long could retire gracefully

Janice I can take or leave personally, some days she can be ok but I tend to avoid the spoken word sessions (apart from one that Lenny Henry did, that was brilliant!) but as seems to be a pretty common opinion, I can’t stand feltz. As I said if they went to the Xmas shedule full time: Janice 12-3, Alex 3-6.30, Chris Evans 6.30 on, then I could live with it and would quite happily stick with them till I finished work.
I didn’t expect to like Evans but when Chris Moyles left I had a listen and didn’t find him as irritating as I first thought.
Have I missed something? but as I understand it Clare balding is replacing Aled Jones for 3hrs on a Sunday morning! not got a full time gig. now if you were all moaning about Steve flamming wright or vanessa feltz I could really understand!
For anyone feeling jaded with Feltz/Evans in the morning and if you have DAB or are driving near London, try Christian O Connell on Absolute Radio. 105.8Mhz if memory serves.
I spend most mornings laughing like a drain at the radio, Richie is comedy gold.
I get the pod casts of Christian o Connell is great radio
Evans bores me, he tries too hard to copy the DJ in the film “Good morning Vietnam”.
As for Feltz, I quite like her show. Thats right, I like Vanessa Feltz’ show !
classic fm before alex lester and after
the missus got me a digital radio for xmas so unless im on the road for for Alex Lester then radio 2 hardly gets listened too, spend more time listening to Planet Rock or the classic comedy on Radio4 extra
You get some good debates/arguments/drunken nutters on the The Stephen Nolan Show on 5 Live. Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10pm - 1am. I used to download the shows onto my phone and have 9 hours of quality entertainment to listen to at my leisure every week… until the app started playing up.
I think Digi radio is definitely the way to go for more variety. I’ve started listening to alot more Radio 4 Extra, plenty of plays, thrillers and comedy etc from the vaults of the BBC.
The only down side is that it can get repetitve, each days broadcast appears to be rolled out several times and can be hard to keep up episode to episode, although iplayer can help if time allows.
