Porkypig:
But if truckers are that dishonest and untrustworthy would anyone really give them hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of load and wave them off?
When you do trunking for parcel companies you’re treated like they think you’re a thief. Set route to run, seals on everything with a security sheet with them on and they’re checked as you enter/leave the hub, Gestapo randomly choosing to follow wagons both from the depot to the hub and from the hub to the depot to make sure you don’t deviate from route or stop for a whizz without ringing in and informing traffic.
And cab checks, meck them get in the passenger side if they want a nosey ,that sluffs them big time

Well, check six posts above yours and you will see that some lorry drivers are indeed thieves.
once attended a firms xmas bash at a big place in Loughborough and at the same time the local plod had there bash same night, so in one corner were the biggest swindling , crooked, bent, thieving toe rags… and in the other corner were us lorry drivers. All our nominated drivers had to watch exactly what they drank incase but there didnt seem the same restraint over there. was over 25years ago though when the old bill could have probably got away with a little think they have tightened up a bit now.

I would think the overboard security precautions are part of a battery of procedures aimed at mitigating all threats, not just you as a driver. Although set routes aren’t a generally good idea if you’re security conscious so I’ll concede that does part does indicate they’re wary of the truck wandering off. Maybe they once had an inside Job.

R we more dishonest then other proffessionals? Looking at these foums loads of posts about liying to insurence companies, not reporting bad driving, runnin bent etc.
I reckon “lying to insurance companies” doesn’t count as “dishonest” because they’ll load you up with questions like “Tell us something we can use as an excuse to raise your premiums with, but if you tell us anything good - we WON’T lower them”.
Ergo - Insurance companies are to “dishonesty” the same as Ghengis Khan was to Mass Murder.
Personally, I reckon the government should charge a levy on insurance companies to the value of 100% of any court awards - to discourage insurers NOT paying out “until forced to do so by the courts”.
On the subject of “not reporting bad driving”… The dishonesty is surely in the arms of a Suit who doesn’t want their yard’s premiums going up!
Thus, the culture pushed upon the workforce is “Don’t be a grass, even if it’s not one of our own drivers”.
Being told by order ‘to conceal facts from those that might be interested to know them’ - is being ordered to be dishonest, rather than actually being dishonest.
Running bent - I’ve already posted extensively on this subject in terms of my strong objections to it. It causes danger to the public from half-asleep drivers, encourages firms to employ people on stupid numbers of hours contracts as “standard”, and removes any responsibility for H&S from the employer - and places it on the driver.

If I go a few minutes over my clock out time I always sit it out for 15 minutes to bump my overtime up. Pays for my lunch for the day
Don’t forget to always have a crap in your overtime, and linger just long enough when downloading your card - so it rounds up rather than down to the nearest 15 minutes…

And you think that’s an acceptable way to act do you? Not liking your employer does NOT justify stealing. Quite frankly, you should be ashamed of yourself rather than openly boasting about it and to being nothing better than a thief. It’s guys like you that pour suspicion on the rest of us and mean We have to put up with employers locking stuff away, making us sign for everything we use etc.
Half inching a company pen is one thing but there is a line

slightly off topic , but why doesn’t anything fall off the back of a wagon these days ■■? it used to be quite common and strangely enough it all managed to find its way to a pub
things do still fall off the back of a wagon , exept now they find their way back to the French border

Yes,due to people like the poster who think its ok to steal things. I know it happens in almost every work place but it does not make it any more acceptable. Its the honest ones who suffer
I think the association goes back to the old days of horses, when cart hauliers used to have to mix coloured confetti with the animal feed to stop the cart drivers stealing the animals feed. Then after the second world war, many ex criminals found many hauliers who had started up new ventures with ex military vehicles and didn’t ask too many questions.
The criminals nowadays are the dodgy hauliers rather than the dodgy drivers though and don’t even get me going on the agencies part in all the dubious national insurance dodging scams that go on out there now.
I’ve worked in places where the management stole more than any driver I’ve ever met, in 1 case 1 of the managers was putting through overtime that was never done and he split the monies with the drivers involved. Considering it was a depot away from the head office and was a multi national company it was easy to do. I’m going back 20 years ago and I know for a fact he was skimming £300 a week

I can live with it,having said that not done it for a few years as I came to realise its not worth it if I got caught, and when it comes down to it virtually everybody out there is dishonest in one way or another, still you are entitled to your opinion
