If you’re caught using a hand-held phone while driving or riding, you can get an automatic fixed penalty notice. You’ll get 3 penalty points on your licence and a fine of £60.
Your case could also go to court and you could be disqualified from driving or riding and get a maximum fine of £1,000. Drivers of buses or goods vehicles could get a maximum fine of £2,500.
Ive been told if you get caught in scotland aswell as the points and fine, your license is suspended for 2 weeks by the commissioner.
No sympathy for anyone caught using their phones while driving, but I don’t agree with this. Seems like you are being punished twice for the same crime!

It’s a stupid and an unneeded law .Why target mobile phones ? why not cb’s or stupid bints and makup or messing with the radio ? all are equally as distracting in the wrong conditions .There already were laws in place to cover inappropriate use of phones ,the same law that allow a person to be prosecuted for eating an apple whilst driving ,it’s called driving without due care and attention
I would contend that it’s a law for the stupid and very necessary. If phones were just a talking instrument I’d have more sympathy with your opinion but most also do text, e-mail, tinterwebby, take pictures and film. While talking does occupy some off your mental faculty the rest also require your vision for recieving input and entering output.
Personally I leave my phone switched on but out of reach so that should any of the people close to me need to get in touch urgently I have a system which, with the various ringtones assigned to the callers, means I can stop at the first safe place and deal with the issue at hand.

RoadsRat, I don’t know if your a traffic copper or just some troll pretending to be a copper but I do know one thing, which ever, you really are a sad looser with those comments above.
Ross.
Unfortunately I can confirm that he’s a serving RPU officer.

I joined to clear up the many “misunderstandings” involving the law.
Unfortunately it’s turned into a slagging match, personal attacks and false aspersions being thrown around by a small minority.
Somehow I’m in the wrong.
Given the punctuation I can only agree with the last sentence.
Which punctuation might that be?
Punctuation looks ok to me.
Capitals, full stops, a comma to separate items in a short list, spelling’s ok too.
On top of that, as this is a truck drivers forum rather than a office desk drivers forum, the standard of written English has never been allowed to detract from the validity of someones argument. Provided their argument was clear enough to understand of course.
Bringing up the question of the standard of someones written English has, conversely, always been considered as being done by a complete plonker.

To be honest, I just can’t work out what you are doing here.
I am a member of the main UK police forum. Why should I only be a member of police forums? We live in a democracy which allows us to do as we please on the Internet.

" now forgive me if I’m wrong did the government not just a couple of days ago " quash freedom of speech in this country " soon the copper will have to lock up every driver on his patch for breaking the law as his paymasters told him so! Seek advise off an mp? Sorry pal all locked up for CORRUPTION, because the world doesn’t go THEIR WAY! poxy civil servants = roadsrat ONE DAY THE PENNY WILL DROP!

Yes, I’m of the same thinking!
I’m sure Wiretwister won’t be shy and will provide an explanation.

Your statement, admission, confession that “Somehow I’m in the wrong” I was agreeing with. The puhctuation reference was as a result of your comment on page 7 of this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=97444&start=240

Given the professed superiority you would have known that a rhetorical question would have ended with a question mark.
Your contribution to this forum has been robotic and confrontational and, aided by your former colleague Mickeyblue, been a depressing display of the worse kind of police arrogance and bovine excrement. Planet Plod may well be black and white but on planet Earth there are many more shades and nuances that impact on our daily lives. Good day sir I will not be responding to any more of your trolling diatribes.

This is the best thing you’ve posted all thread!
But you will respond, won’t you? Your ego won’t be able to help itself.
So what are the rules for policemen blogging in this manner? Not long a go a copper from Derby was disciplined for his blog when he was found out. One person on here knows who you are so how long untill your true identity is known, from your obvious predujices you have shown so far if i were to be pulled by you what do you think the chances of the charges being upheld in court?
Remember due to the decline in policing standards your word is no longer taken as verbatum by judges. Having been taken to court for three alleged taco offences due to the negligence and quite obvious predujice of the policeman all charges were thrown out luckily this police officer is no longer serving but it would apppear that the factory is still churning out people who cannot leave there predujices aside when they out their uniform on. I notice that you didn’t respond to my earlier post about getting your own house in order before inteferring in other professions what is the matter the truth hurt? And as to your lame excuse that you are only trying to offer legal advice if I want that I will speak to VOSA their knowledge on Taco’s is generally correct same can’t be said for the police

Posting on a forum and blogging are two entirely seperate things.
I have no prejudices.
There are bad apples in every single profession.

Don’t make me laugh every week there is a story about the police being up to no good or their negligence causing cases to be dropped lets not even get on to the hacking scandal and as for me personnally was pulled on the 3rd of Feb and on Wednesday both occasions all clear so yes my house is in order
