Truckulent:
. You see what I’m getting at here? They are paid, rightly or wrongly, what they are seen to be worth by their respective employers. Drivers on the other hand are paid [zb] wages. Period .
Well, this is what I can’t agree. Drivers are also paid what they are seen to be worth by their respective employers. And it just shows that nobody values truck drivers
The reality is that no other profession would tolerate having to work 70-80 hours a week just to earn a half reasonablt living. That is the equivalent of doing 2 jobs not one. How many of you can honestly say you receive the equivalent of 2 salaries?
Well, you can say one earns more than two minimum wages salaries when he works 80 hours and gets 600 But I don’t know if that’s any good.
I work in Widnes and see all the Tescos wagons crawling along at 48 MPH trying to drag the job out to earn enough to put grub on the table, It’s unfortunate that most drivers like myself along with everyone else its what we do, who we are. The likes of Stobarts earn MIllions and millions for the shareholders and yet pay the people who make it happen bugger all. I say sod em, tell them to shove the crap wage up their arse and drive the truck themselves. Asda did a similar thing to me at Skelm, I laughed and walked out. They were meant to be FAMILY FREINDLY…LIKE ■■■■■ THEY WERE.
It’s about time someone posted a topic about pay on these forums.
I’ve got some news for you. Driving a basic truck from A-B is not a skilled or professional job. It just so happens that you had to pay £1200 plus to change your licence, but that doesn’t make your job any more skilled than a shelf stacker.
Perhaps ADR drivers can demand higher pay for following a set of rules, but you can bet your bollox to a bulldog that the salesman who closed the deal for moving dangerous stuff from A-B will be earning double what you are. No qualifications needed either. Just an ability to make people want to buy stuff from you.
Yes the wages are poor, but for £7.50 an hour would you rather stack shelves or enjoy the freedom of the road?
My wages are now average (to start with they were appalling). If I had walked out of my job a few years ago cos of poor wages someone else who was desperate to pay the rent would have stepped right up.

Oh I seem to have stumbled into a my willys bigger than your willy thread
Always involves ady1 and a breakdown of his wages
if they want to critisize ill respond,it just isnt what you want to here though is it,youd love it if us stobart drivers were on peanuts as you all like to claim, but in reality were not, were on half decent money, and doesnt that stick in your throat .
oh but i dont care what you earn, not much you dont
Why I do this job…
You cannot beat driving though mid wales on a sunny day with your shades on and good music pumping out of your stereo, there is not many jobs where you can view different scenery each day, listen to whatever music you want, do sod all physical work, park up at a pub on a sunny summers evening and spend the evening having a few pints and a nice meal.
Stop moaning about the wages ffs, this job is about the lifestyle, who the hell would want to work in a supermarket all day, same scenery, never see the weather, crappy supermarket radio, ■■■■■■ customers etc.
You are mental if you forked out £1000+ because you thought you would earn more money

Thank ■■■■ someone agrees
I can guarantee that when your driving along on a day where there is not a cloud in the sky you think ‘I love my job’ except if your stuck behind a tossco driver doing miss daisy speeds
IMHO Its the “I go home everynight” drivers who seem to think that we are a danger to them with our ■■■■ poor rates and long hours! For your information! All the Lads/Lasses Recently given notice by Stobart were Shift drivers! Day/Night not tramping! Always looking to go home early probably! But that’s their choice! I don’t mind Tramping it’s easy work and you are almost at the next Tip or Collection point ready to roll after your 9 hours! So very flexible to everyone!
I don’t know a single Brown nose driver at Stobart!

I like tramping because that means i can have an extra lie in, dont have to worry about getting up even earlier to make my way to work, also like the fact I get paid to sleep

Driving through Wales scenery etc etc. What bolox. Most drivers, sit in traffic for hours every week, get treated like ■■■■ at every tip/collection and have to tolerate poor services and hardly anywhere to stop that won’t rip you off.
Truly you people are in a different world. It’s not about willy waving. It’s about being paid a decent amount that reflects the sort of money the firms you work for actually earn in profit, given the importance of the job of the driver.
Having read the post in this thread i don’t think some of you even know why you’re driving loads up and down the country. You just do it ‘cos the gaffer tells me to’.
These people are making THOUSANDS a day out of you.And you’re happy with a tiny percentage of that!!!
What is so wrong with demanded a decent day’s pay?
With regard to the Stobbies drivers getting their marching orders, the reason they keep on the trampers is 'cos they get more work out of you for less money so it’s good business sense for them. What a cheek the day/night lads have wanting to go home after a shift when they could be parked up in a manky layby somewhere kipping on a bunk and eating camp food.
This topics stirred some feeling, I personaly like to be at home every day, i work nights. i have no problem with whateever shift anyone does, my point is that i like everyone else has done the crap and the hours we ll know what i mean, but in my case right or wrong i have walked away from/out of poorly paid jobs and ALWAYS gone where the money was. I’ve looked at ways in the past to improve my income and ADR was the way forward for ME. I now have a 4 night tues-fri job which pays 35000 for 48 hours. I concider myself lucky to have it but I dont see why anyone should work for 7.50 per hour driving 44 tonne trucks. ISaall

Mods can you change his username to trucklusional
Obviously you have been taken for a mug mate
The wages are rubbish in this game no matter what you earn. Anyone who thinks £700 for 70-80hrs work is good needs their head examining. Its not good its total crap. You have no family life whatsoever while the top dogs at the company live in nice houses drive nice cars & live fantastic lifestyles. You must be out of your mind being prepared to work so many hours!! At the end of the day my job doesnt pay great money but for what i do & the hours i work it suits me but i admit the moneys still crap but needs must. Until drivers stick together things are only gonna get worse

So set up your own haulage company and pay your drivers minimum wage whilst you lap it up in your three houses and high performance cars. If your boss managed to make it to the big bucks why can’t you?
