Poor pay

Mike-C:
Can’t knock that Orys, only downside is that you live in Glasgow, guess you can’t have it all, eh?

It could be worse, I could land in England :stuck_out_tongue:

We pay for our education here. I’ll expect you when you finished your UNI courses

ady1:
its decent ,money for easy work

That’s what’s most important, isn’t it?

2/if i do 2 a.m-5 p.m ,i get up at 1 a.m and get back in house appx 5.45 p.m[depending on traffic etc]

that means you got about 7hrs 15mins sleep if you use all your time home for that…

I think I prefer my work - I am away for a week, and then I have another week with two or three easy local jobs (out 8:00, back 15:00).

orys,i got to my collection at york wednesday at 8.45 a.m,i got loaded at 15.30 p.m  ,i slept, watched the golf[course next door],drank tea, chatted, thats the reason i can get away with 4/5 hrs per night, i get plenty of kip in daytime,
when i had my interview for job many moons ago,the interviewer said if you can sticks hours sitting around youll be o.k with job, some cant, i just use the hours waiting to reload as time to catch up on sleep/rest

All matters not. You’re at work so you can’t sleep in your own bed, talk to the wife, go shopping, go to the pub, fix the car, decorate etc etc. You are at the beck and call of your employer. Trying to hide the fact you get ■■■■ wages behind some kind of attempt to pretend you sleep half the day (and if you do so regularly your job won’t last) is pretty pointless.

The hard facts are that:

1)lorry drivers earn ■■■■■ wages, period
2)the attitudes on this post must be music to the ears of the companies that are daily dry analing you, some of you even seem to enjoy it. Stand together for better pay? No chance, I’m too busy earning my £400 for 60 hours…
3)Anyone working 70 hours a week for anything less than £700 is kidding themselves if they think the pay is good.

I don’t doubt lots of you that read this will feel your hackles rising. I am not having a go at any individual, you do what you do. If you’re genuinely happy with £7.50hr while your employers make millions ££££then great.

For me, any driver is responsible for a hell of a lot whilst driving 44 tonnes around on the roads. A shelf stacker is responsible for a few tins and eggs and milk etc… They should be earning half what a LGV driver does, not 50p less.

LGV drivers are underpaid, under valued and treated like turds by everyone, especially the people they make all the profit for.

And the main culprit for this state of affairs are the drivers themselves for (as this post shows) being happy with it! :unamused:

exactley there paying agency drivers 7.50 per hour and its adr plenty queing id rather stack shelves

Well, don’t wanted to make ady feel bad, but I completely agree. I drive only a small van, I feel like on holidays half of the time as if I am away, I am usualy spent lots of time sightseeing while my office folk try to find me back load and I am paid more than many class 1 drivers…

Saying that, you can’t change the whole system on your own. So unless the drivers will really get united, you just try to get best what you can get under circumstances…

Yeah, but if I have similar job (in a way of speaking - I drive long, but then sometimes I wait even two days for the load back) and I am paid slightly more than Stobbart driver for 5 days away, I think something is wrong. I drive sprinter, you drive 44 tonner…

Lucky for me, highly educated Eastern Europeans are welcome everywhere, so I might pick something better than England.

I am afraid that you will have to get some education yourself to fullfill that shortages :grimacing:

Who said I am waiting in Sprinter? If you think I sit behind the wheel for 40 hours and stare through the windscreen, you are soooo wrong

I just drive to some nice town, go to the local cafe or restaurant to try local kitchen… Or if there is nice weather, I stop by some supermarket, buy a nice set of picnic food, or sometimes even portable bbq and then I go to some nature spot. Off course I always try to have some good book with me.

Or I look up to my sat nav and go to some nice museum nearby (there is always a risk, that they call me for work just after I bought my ticker, but, hey, there is no perfect job, isn’t it?

Or I just drive around, sightseeing (boss have nothing against)… Sightseeing in sprinter is much more comfortable than in small hired car, especially if it’s not you who pays for fuel.

Sometimes I go like that for day or two - if they say “go towards X, but there is no rush” Last week I had this “start heading there and there” for two days - I drove from Bergen to Hamburg only to be turned back to Kobenhavn…

Then if I wish, I can go to the hotel for the night… But usually I just sleep on the back of the van in some nice nature spot, far away from main road. You know, I am a camping style man and I prefere it much over some roadside hotel…

You know, everyone’s to his own tastes, but I had fair share of trucking jobs (local, international (for the while), UK tramping, UK regular, night trunking, some specific jobs like Outer Hebrides) and I have to say that this express sprintering it’s, im my opinion off course, the greatest driving job one can have, and I can hardly imagine something better for me

Off course, there are legendary rock’n’roll jobs, but then they do some physical work - I don’t  I don’t think I would like to swap jobs with euromat for example…

Off course it’s all to company - My company is rather good and reasoble. Yes, sometimes the condition of the vans drive me crazy, but that improved recently (we had the worst bangers replaced during last few months), but for that example the planners in my office seems to be, on most occasion, very reasonable. Nobody expect me to drive 24 hours non stop etc and I know places where this is common.

Also the big disadvantage is that I am allways on call, so my social life can suffer on that. But hey, I can always refuse to take the job and they will try to assign that to other drivers. If you only don’t do it all the time, they are ok with that, as they understand you have your own life as well.

Just now I am moving home (and wasting my time on-line while I should pack the boxes, as I HATE it) and they do everything to acomodate me, giving me only some small local jobs. And then I will be able to borrow a van to do my move…

Yeah, I think it’s obvious, but I have to write it: I like my job.

Ady you’re in cloud cuckoo land mate… You don’t seem to understand that it doesn’t matter if you’re sleeping or not. You ask how many jobs let you sleep and get paid? Well, try a politician mate. Or a judge. Or business executives having a business meeting -not sleeping but on a championship golf course all expenses paid all in the name of ‘working’. You on the other hand are stuck in a truck, no idea when you’ll be moving again and trying to sleep with the racket of shunters all around you. You get the picture? Doesn’t look so rosy then. And what really hurts is that the politician, judge, business executive will all earn more in an afternoon than you do all week. You see what I’m getting at here? They are paid, rightly or wrongly, what they are seen to be worth by their respective employers. Drivers on the other hand are paid ■■■■■ wages. Period .

You’re at work and can’t do with your time what you’d like. You should be getting paid a decent rate whether you’re sleeping or not. If you’re waiting about so much all the time it’s 'cos your TM can’t plan for toffee but that’s not your problem. Can’t you see mate that the gaffer know you’re waiting about a lot so makes sure that your hourly wage is low so that when you average out the hours you are doing you are earning ■■■■■ money?!

The reality is that no other profession would tolerate having to work 70-80 hours a week just to earn a half reasonablt living. That is the equivalent of doing 2 jobs not one. How many of you can honestly say you receive the equivalent of 2 salaries? In fairness if you’re working for Stobbies (and many others not just them) you’re not even earning one salary unless you’re working 75+ hours a week and that is scandalous.

And some of you are happy with this? I give up. :open_mouth: .

Truckulent:
I give up. :open_mouth: .

Me too - what else can I say. . . :arrow_right:

my job`s better than your job :unamused:
